Amy Schumer is showing off her impressive weight-loss.
On Saturday, the 44-year-old comedian took to social media to share a photo of her dramatic transformation. Schumer, who was wearing a tiny black dress and heels, was accompanied by two friends as the threesome enjoyed the Paul McCartney concert in Las Vegas.
Friends and fans were quick to share their thoughts, praising the actress for her progress.
“Okay Amyyyyyy🔥” comedian Anjelah Johnson commented.

“Ok legs for days!!🔥🔥❤️” the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Margaret Josephs added.
“Those legs ❤️❤️❤️” Isla Fisher wrote.
During an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show” earlier this year, the comedian opened up about her scary experience trying medication for weight-loss purposes.
“I have this gene – GDF15 – which makes you extremely prone to nausea which is why I was so sick during my pregnancy. So, I tried Ozempic almost three years ago and I was like bedridden, I was vomiting and then you have no energy but other people take it and they’re all good,” she explained.
“I lost 30 pounds so quick,” said Schumer, who is mom to 4-year-old son, Gene, whom she shares with husband, Chris Fischer. “I looked great and I couldn’t lift my head off the pillow, so what’s the point?”
Ozempic, which is a semaglutide injection, was originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes, but the medication has increasingly been prescribed off label for weight loss, along with several other similar medications.

The actress has been open about her Ozempic use before and once blasted celebrities for saying they lost weight by simply eating “smaller portions” and “lying” about using the injectable drug.
“Like, shut the f— up!” she said during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live!” in 2023. “You are on Ozempic or one of those things or you got work done. Just stop.”
“Like, a year ago, I tried it,” she said. “It’s like, you know, you try it. And I was one of those people that felt so sick and couldn’t play with my son. I was so skinny, and he’s throwing a ball at me and [I couldn’t].”
“And you’re like, ‘OK, this isn’t livable for me,’” she added.
In March, Schumer praised the effects of Mounjaro (also known as tirzepatide) in a video clip shared on Instagram with her nearly 13 million followers.
“I wanted to share and keep it 100 with you, that years ago – and yes, this is completely unsafe to be driving and making a video – years ago, three years ago, I tried Wegovy and I was like puking,” Schumer said in the clip captured while she was behind the wheel.
The comedian recently shared her negative experience with Ozempic.(Getty Images)
“I couldn’t handle it. I don’t know if they’ve changed the formula or whatever… but anyway, I went on this telehealth meeting with MidiHealth, and it was cheap. I wanted to try it myself, cause I wanted to recommend it to my friends who are like nurses and teachers.”
In addition to the injectable medication, which is primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes, the “Trainwreck” star has a new routine which includes hormones.
“They put me on estrogen and progesterone because I realized I was in perimenopause and my symptoms of being in perimenopause have disappeared,” Schumer said.
“My hair is fuller, my skin is better, I have more energy, I want to get down more if you know what I mean – I’m talking about sex.”
She added, “So that’s been great, Mounjaro’s been great… I’m having a really good experience with it and I wanted to keep it real with you about that.”
It is all the rage to lose weight and is causing a stir for several reason. But can you have a a bit of a vape and chill while on it?
The latest weight loss trend has been the use of Ozempic. A Gallup poll suggested over 6% of adults in the US and Canada have tried it. So over 16+ million have given it a go. Amy Schumer, Kelly Clarkson, Sharon Osbourne, Chelsea Handler, Dolores Catania, Oprah, and Charles Barkley have all tried it. Millions of people struggle with weight and their body image. In the last 12 months 56% of women and almost 42% of men have tried to slim down. And the new hot drug is seen as the silver bullet. But what if you want to relax and chill out while taking it? Can you consume marijuana on Ozempic?
Some people enjoy eating, the taste of the food and the ritual of dining alone or with friends. Dieting and other weight loss programs are often seen as a punshment or negative. And if you want to chill out, alcohol usually interferes with a slimming routines due to sugar and how it is absorbed in the body. But marijuana is a different story. Ozempic works by mimicking a naturally occurring hormone. As those hormone levels rise, the molecules go to your brain, telling it you’re full. It also slows digestion by increasing the time it takes for food to leave the body. This is similar to the effect of bariatric surgery.
With limited research and data, it seems small amounts of alcohol, such as 1-2 drinks per day with food, are generally considered safe based on initial studies. However, alcohol is known to interfere with blood sugar control mechanisms, which Ozempic is aimed at improving. So there could be issue around the success of the routine.
Marijuana thought it different in its makeup and how the body absorbs it. Currently, there hasn’t be in research or data showing marijuana interferes with the drug. But, keep in mind Ozempic may interact with oral forms of cannabis (forms you swallow), such as tablets, capsules, gummies and other edibles.
The side effects can be troublesome and include nausea, vomiting, constipation, and at times diarrhea. These are related to the same concept regarding the movement of the bowels and the stomach. The benefits come somehow from the same pathway. Beyond gastrointestinal symptoms, the medication can also cause rash, gallbladder issues, abdominal pain. It is allows important to talk to health professional when starting something which can have an impact on your body and organs.
Actor and comedian Amy Schumer has revealed she was diagnosed with Cushing’s syndrome after she faced harsh online criticism for her face appearing “puffier than normal” during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show.
While the hateful comments did lead her to seek medical help, she encouraged people to “be a little kinder” because it’s impossible to know for sure what a person may be going through.
Cushing’s syndrome is a rare disorder in which the body produces or is flooded with too much cortisol, a hormone associated with stress and managing blood pressure, according to the Mayo Clinic. Symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome include mood changes and weight gain, especially in the face, the abdomen and between the shoulders.
A common cause of Cushing’s syndrome is taking steroid medications for an extended period, according to MyHealth Alberta. Steroid medications are used to treat many inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and asthma.

Schumer spoke about her diagnosis to journalist Jessica Yellen, who reports that Schumer has “exogenous Cushing syndrome, brought on by getting steroid injections in high doses.”
The actor shared that she “realized something was wrong” after she got an influx of hate comments for her face appearing puffy in an interview with Jimmy Fallon. The Tonight Show turned off the comments under the YouTube video of Schumer’s interview.
“While I was doing press on camera for my Hulu show, I was also in MRI machines four hours at a time, having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up,” Schumer said.

“Aside from fears about my health, I also had to be on camera having the internet chime in. But thank God for that. Because that’s how I realized something was wrong.”
“The internet is undefeated, as they say,” she joked.
Serious forms of Cushing’s syndrome can require surgery to treat, but Schumer says she has “the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out” and that’s she’s healthy.
Two days after Schumer appeared on The Tonight Show on Feb. 13, she made an Instagram post addressing the hateful comments.
“Thank you so much for everyone’s input about my face! I’ve enjoyed feedback and deliberation about my appearance as all women do for almost 20 years. And you’re right it is puffier than normal right now,” Schumer wrote. “There are some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now but I’m okay.”
“I also believe a woman doesn’t need any excuse for her physical appearance and owes no explanation. But I wanted to take the opportunity to advocate for self love and acceptance of the skin you’re in,” she added.

In her interview with Yellen, Schumer added to that sentiment and shared that she thought the situation was “a good example of the fact that we never know what is going on with someone.”
“Everyone is struggling with something. Maybe we can all be a little kinder to each other and ourselves,” she said.
Amy Schumer has shared that she has been diagnosed with Cushing syndrome, a condition where the “body has too much of the hormone cortisol for a long time,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
Cushing syndrome has several side effects, including having a “rounded face,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
“While I was doing press on camera for my Hulu show, I was also in MRI machines four hours at a time, having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up,” Schumer said. “So finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I’m healthy was the greatest news imaginable.”
Schumer first revealed that she had been diagnosed with endometriosis, which the Mayo Clinic describes as an often painful condition in which tissue that is similar to the inner lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, earlier this month after online critics started saying online that the comedian had a “puffier” face in her recent public appearances.
Endometriosis can cause weight gain, and some medications to treat it can also cause weight gain.
Yet, in an interesting twist, Schumer told Yellin that the “puffier” face criticism helped her realize something was wrong, and led to her diagnosis.
“It has been a crazy couple [of] weeks for me and my family,” Schumer said for the newsletter. “Aside from fears about my health, I also had to be on camera having the internet chime in. But thank God for that. Because that’s how I realized something was wrong.”
“Life & Beth” stars Amy Schumer, Sas Goldberg, Yamaneika Saunders and Arielle Siegel dish with Kelly Clarkson on the second season of their Hulu series.
In Schumer’s initial health reveal this month, she acknowledged that the critics were right about her face being “puffier” due to some “hormonal and medical things” going on, but that she was “okay.”
“But I feel strong and beautiful and so proud of this tv show I created. Wrote. Starred in and directed. Maybe just maybe we can focus on that for a little,” Schumer wrote in an Instagram post.
Schumer also acknowledged the difference men and women’s health has been studied over the years, and that no woman owes an explanation for their physical appearance.
“Historically women’s bodies have barely been studied medically compared to men,” Schumer wrote. “I also believe a woman doesn’t need any excuse for her physical appearance and owes no explanation. But I wanted to take the opportunity to advocate for self love and acceptance of the skin you’re in.”

Warrior
A gripping historical crime drama that mixes martial arts with gangsters, Warrior is an excellent blend of genres that’s worth watching for its fight scenes alone. The show comes from a long lost pitch from the late Bruce Lee, and it’s brought to life by his daughter Shannon Lee and a dedicated team. The series takes place in 1870s San Francisco, where the burgeoning Chinatown sees brewing gang wars. Meanwhile, Chinese immigrants in the city are facing threats from a white establishment that’s growing increasingly hostile. All three seasons of Warriorwill begin streaming Friday, February 16th. Read Observer’s review.
Avatar: The Last Airbender
One of the most anticipated live-action television adaptations in recent memory, Avatar: The Last Airbender is a new fantastical adventure series based on the mid-’00s cartoon of the same name. The show takes place in a world where nations tied to the elements (water, earth, fire, and air) are at war. The Fire Nation is on a path of conquest, helped by those who can wield and bend the element, and only the mystical figure known as the Avatar (who can control all four elements) can stop it. The problem? The Avatar, Aang, is only a child, but he’s been hiding from his responsibilities for years. Avatar: The Last Airbenderpremieres Thursday, February 22nd.
Amy Schumer returns with Season 2 of Life & Beth, a dramedy about grappling with love, loss, and buried trauma. Schumer stars as Beth, a woman who ditched her fairly comfortable (but fairly boring) life to deal with the death of her mother and all of the feelings that it stirred up. Along the way, she discovered a charming farmer (Michael Cera) and decided to really try to live her life rather than just exist in it. Now, they’re a happy couple, but personal realizations and rushed proposals threaten to derail that relationship. Season 2 of Life & Bethpremieres Friday, February 16th.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have long been sources for middling movies, so it’s a good thing that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem finally realized the fun that could be had with these characters. The animated film takes the kind of creative visual swings that made the two Spider-Verse movies such hits, oozing with bright, clever animation. Mutant Mayhem follows the heroes in a half shell as they work to bust a mysterious mutant crime syndicate and get some good press (with the help of Ayo Edebiri’s April O’Neil) for mutants at large. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhemstreams Wednesday, February 21st.

From Invasion to For All Mankind, no platform loves a space show as much as Apple. Constellation is the newest space-set series from the streamer, though it leans a bit more into psychological thriller than sci-fi or drama. Noomi Rapace stars as Jo, an astronaut whose mission goes awry. When she returns to Earth, she discovers that key parts of her life are different, from an inexplicable new ability to play the piano to Jo’s altered relationship with her daughter. Jonathan Banks and James D’Arcy also star. The first three episodes of Constellation premiere Wednesday, February 21st.

Oppenheimer
The biggest addition to streaming this week comes in the form of one of 2023’s biggest and best movies. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer made a massive splash in theaters last summer, combining the director’s affinity for richly realized filmmaking and an intricate story about one of history’s most notorious figures. It’s a heavy favorite to walk away with plenty of Oscars come March 10th, given that it’s the most-nominated film of the year. With stellar performances from Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Robert Downey Jr., this period piece about the science and politics of war is near-perfect. Oppenheimerpremieres Friday, February 16th. We’re Still Talking About It
Since Tuesday, we haven’t heard much from comedian Amy Schumer, who has been very vocal in her support for Israel this month. Earlier this week, Schumer shared a video clip of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. defending Israel‘s right to exist. Then, Bernice King, daughter of the civil rights legend, chimed in to clarify that her father would demand a cease-fire if he were alive. TikTok food reviewer Keith Lee has left the Atlanta food scene in shambles, chile. Though he checked out multiple spots, one experience stands out to me, in particular. After making a visit to The Real Milk & Honey restaurant, Lee politely chronicled his experience with the infamous establishment: its inconsistent rules, wait times, etc. Then, the owners responded with a corny online skit asking, “Who is Keith Lee?” Well, the internet gave them a rude awakening. Gal Gadot, Amy Schumer, Jamie Lee Curtis, and more celebrities are taking to social media to show their support for Israel amid the country’s declared war against Hamas following the large-scale attack by the Palestinian militants Saturday.
Unsurprisingly, Israeli-born Gadot was one of the most vocal celebrities to speak out about the war: the Wonder Woman star served two mandatory years in the Israel Defense Forces. “I stand with Israel, you should too,” Godot wrote in an Instagram post published Saturday afternoon. “The world cannot sit on the fence when these horrific acts of terror are happening!”
More than 24 hours after Hamas launched its massive attack out of Gaza, Israeli forces are still hunting down groups of militant fighters holed up in several towns of southern Israel, according to the Associated Press. The Israeli Health Ministry reports that at least 500 people are dead and 2,000 others are injured in that country; 232 are dead and 1,790 others are injured in Gaza, the Palestinian Health Ministry announced Sunday.
Godot has also published several Instagram Stories (which expire 24 hours after posting) about the war, including one that reads, “At least 250 Israelis have been murdered and dozens of women, children and elders held as hostages in Gaza, by Palestinian military group Hamas. Starting early morning, more than 3,000 rockets were fired. Hamas is holding hostages controlling bases and settlements in Israel. There have been more than 1,500 injured, and heavy fighting is still ongoing. ‘I hear their voices and they are banging on the door. I am with my two little children.’ My heart is aching.”
Jerusalem-born talent manager Guy Oseary, perhaps best known to laypeople for his longstanding business relationship with Madonna, also posted a statement of support. While it no longer appears to be online, it was reposted by one-time Oseary client, comedian Amy Schumer. According to Schumer’s repost, Oseary posted a video that appears to be from the Supernova music festival, which was attached by Hamas forces on Saturday, the BBC reports.
“Over 200 Israelis have been murdered this morning. The terrorist organization Hamas said: ‘If you have a gun, get it out. This is the time to use it – get out with trucks, cars, axes, today the best and most honorable history starts,’” Oseary reportedly wrote. “This is horrific.. these murders are being celebrated in Iran. Noa in this video was at a music festival when she and others were shot at and kidnapped.. many women, children and elderly are being taken from their homes and kidnapped.”
“I have always prayed for peace. ALWAYS,” Oseary’s statement reportedly continued. “I have always spoken up for my Jewish community and have also spoken up for my Arab brothers and sisters. I have no words today. Only heartbreak. Only tears.”
“Jewish people are the only group not allowed to defend themselves,” Schumer added. “This has nothing to do with the occupation. Hamas don’t want end to occupation, They want to eradicate Israel. They’re funded by Iran, who are trying to destroy the peace deal.”
The already behemoth Barbie movie that’s set to color the summer box office season pink had a long and twisty road to the big screen. Before filmmaker Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie entered Barbieland, there were abandoned versions of the project featuring Anne Hathaway and Amy Schumer—ones that barely got out of their plastic packaging before being cast aside. At one point, Diablo Cody, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Juno, was tapped to write such an iteration. This week, she shared with GQ why she “shit the bed” on writing the script.
“When I was first hired for this, I don’t think the culture had not embraced the femme or the bimbo as valid feminist archetypes yet,” Cody explained. “If you look up ‘Barbie’ on TikTok you’ll find this wonderful subculture that celebrates the feminine. But in 2014, taking this skinny blonde white doll and making her into a heroine was a tall order.”
The writer behind prickly female-led films like Young Adult and Tully said she set out to make “an anti-Barbie” that “made a lot of sense given the feminist rhetoric of ten years ago.” But corporate and studio oversight prevented Cody from fully realizing her vision. “I didn’t really have the freedom then to write something that was faithful to the iconography; they wanted a girl-boss feminist twist on Barbie, and I couldn’t figure it out because that’s not what Barbie is,” she said.
“I failed so hard at that project,” she previously told Screen Crush, after departing Barbie without ever turning in a pass on the script. “I was literally incapable of turning in a Barbie draft. God knows I tried.”
Five years later, Cody cites another IP-driven blockbuster as an obstacle in Barbie’s stride. “I heard endless references to The Lego Movie in development,” she said, “and it created a problem for me because they had done it so well. Any time I came up with something meta, it was too much like what they had done. It was a roadblock for me, but now enough time has passed that they can just cast [The Lego Movie antagonist] Will Ferrell as the antagonist in a real-life Barbie movie and nobody cares.”
During Cody’s time with the project, she crossed paths with Schumer, who parted ways with the lead role in 2016 due to “scheduling conflicts.” But in a recent interview on Watch What Happens Live, Schumer confirmed to Andy Cohen that she left because the version of the film being imposed on her didn’t feel “feminist and cool.” When asked about Schumer’s remark in a Time magazine cover story, Richard Dickson, COO and president of Mattel, said only: “It was a matter of finding the right talent that can appreciate the brand’s authenticity and bring that controversy to life in a way that, yes, pokes fun at us but ultimately is purposeful and has heart.”
Cody acknowledged that creative tightrope in her GQ interview. “I have made several swings at IP with Barbie and Powerpuff Girls, and I take full responsibility for the failures of those attempts, because I do have a specific voice and POV and I haven’t figured out how to modulate it,” she said. (A Cody-penned Powerpuff series at The CW that got reimagined back in 2021 was officially cancelled last month.) “Ultimately, you’re selling toys. I mean, nobody really wants to delve deeper into the lore and mythos of Hungry Hungry Hippos. That’s not really an artistic exercise.”
Schumer was set to play the iconic doll in a project that Sony Pictures had the rights to back in 2016, Variety reported. She later cited “scheduling conflicts” as her reason for dropping out of the film months later.
The comedian, in an interview on “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen on Thursday, said the upcoming film that now stars Margot Robbie “looks awesome” before describing the reason she left the earlier project.
“It really was just creative differences but you know, there’s a new team behind it and it looks like it’s very feminist and cool so I will be seeing the movie,” Schumer said.
“Was it that it didn’t feel feminist and cool when you were involved in it?” Cohen asked.
“They definitely didn’t want to do it the way I wanted to do it, the only way I was interested in doing it,” Schumer said.
Schumer’s script saw Barbie as an inventor and the studio requested her invention be a high heel crafted from Jell-O. She then received a pair of Manolo Blahniks “to celebrate,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“The idea that that’s just what every woman must want, right there, I should have gone, ‘You’ve got the wrong gal,’” she said.
Warner Bros. would later take on the rights to “Barbie” in 2018 while Robbie, who also serves as a producer on the film, was confirmed for the title role the next year.
The Greta Gerwig-directed “Barbie” film looks to hit theaters on July 21.
Amy Schumer is a big “Vanderpump Rules” fan, so it’s no surprise she has a few things to say about Scandoval.
The actress spoke about that cheating scandal as she chatted to Andy Cohen on Thursday’s “Watch What Happens Live”.
After Tom Sandoval was slammed earlier this week for criticizing his now ex-girlfriend, Ariana Madix, for having sex with a T-shirt on, Schumer weighed into the debate. And, unsurprisingly, she wasn’t a fan of the comment.
Schumer — who labelled Sandoval a “narcissist” and said she’s never been a fan of him — told Cohen, “When he said, yeah, uh, her T-shirt was on, like, first of all, I usually have sex with a T-shirt on, okay?
“That was so revolting,” she added. “I just feel like every woman’s vagina just snapped shut when he said that.”
Elsewhere in the chat, Schumer said of Scandoval, “I hope that they fall out of these patterns of getting with these men who just love bomb them. You know, these young women, you think that’s love, somebody just puts that much on you, and that’s not really love.”
As Cohen asked whether she thought Leviss and Sandoval might stand a chance as a couple, Schumer insisted, “Of course not.
“He will replace her and put somebody else on a pedestal and then he’ll demean them. She’ll be a casualty, but she’s [28], so she’ll learn. I hope she finds real love and real self-love.”
Sandoval and Leviss have been hitting headlines since March after their months-long affair was revealed. He’d been dating Madix for nine years at the time, when she found a NSFW video of Leviss on his phone.
During the “VPR” season 10 reunion, it was revealed that the affair had actually started before Scheana Shay’s Mexico wedding in August.
Amy Schumer and her husband, Chris Fischer, are celebrating five years of marriage.
The 41-year-old comedian shared a blurry photo of her and Fischer, 43, engaged in a smooch to her Instagram on Monday to announce the five-year mark of their wedding anniversary.
“Married for 5 years,” she wrote alongside the photo. “I think we got this.”
The pair’s celebrity friends swarmed in the comment section to show their support for the marriage milestone. Rachel Bilson commented with a simple fire emoji, while singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton wrote: “All the vibes say yes.”
Schumer and Fischer were first rumoured to be together in November 2017 after photos of the pair enjoying a candlelit dinner in New York City surfaced.
From there, the couple made their Instagram official in February 2018 before making their marriage official at an intimate wedding in Malibu.
The couple has since dashed several milestones together, including the birth of their son in May 2019 and earning a prestigious Emmy nomination for their cooking show, “Amy Schumer Learns to Cook“.
The rumors have been brewing for a while now, reaching a crescendo throughout all of January as Madonna finally confirmed on the 17th that a greatest hits tour has, in fact, been in the works. And it’s called, almost as generically as 2004’s Reinvention Tour, The Celebration Tour—named as a nod to her 2009 greatest hits compilation, Celebration. Being that Madonna’s last album, Madame X, was released in 2019, perhaps she’s “surrendering” in some way to the idea that the most money to be made from her music, in terms of “drumming up” tour business, is through the assurance of greatest hits. For she already knows her die-hard fans will show up for anything she does—now she wants “the leftovers” who can’t respect some of her more “experimental” phases to join in too.
As for the timing of the tour, it seems to indicate Madonna losing a certain “ahead-of-the-curveness” in that Taylor Swift already stole headlines recently for the announcement of her own 2023 greatest hits show, called The Eras Tour. Which already made history for shutting down Ticketmaster during the presales due to “overwhelming demand” and subsequently inciting an antitrust investigation. It’s unlikely that The Celebration Tour will have the same issues or history-making propensities, but there’s no denying that it will sell out in most cities, maybe even the two dates (thus far) Madonna has bestowed upon New York, the place she’s almost grotesquely fond of because it “made her into the person she is” (though Madonna students know it was her mother’s death and the tutelage of Christopher Flynn that did that). Ergo, the tour announcement was sure to mention, “The Celebration Tour will take us on Madonna’s artistic journey through four decades and pays respect to the city of New York where her career in music began.” It’s unclear how much more respect Madonna can pay to it, but anyway… She herself also added, “I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for.” How Taylor-esque.
And yet, the only person who can really give people a bona fide “Eras Tour” is Madonna. After all, she isn’t called the Queen of Reinvention for nothing, having “revamped” herself repeatedly over the years. Some people would cynically call that a “bid to stay relevant,” while Madonna has described it as the search for her true self as she slowly peels back the layers (yes, it’s very Kabbalah-spurred). Either way, it’s been iconic and culturally impactful for the rest of the world to watch. From the Boy Toy incarnation of Like A Virgin to the bleach-blonde, slicked-back hair and gamine physique of True Blue to the dominatrix of Erotica to the “Ethereal Girl” of Ray of Light to the glamorous cowgirl of Music to the Che Guevara imitator of American Life to the “disco dolly” of Confessions on a Dance Floor, Madonna has provided look after look (therefore Halloween costume after Halloween costume) for the masses to soak up and embed in their collective cultural lexicon.
With Taylor, those marked reinventions—aesthetic or otherwise—have never really been there. Sure, her “sound” has evolved from the country-ier days of Taylor Swift, Fearless and Speak Now to the more pop-centric focus heralded by Red. But, in the end, her “deal” is being a singer-songwriter that sort of fell into being a pop star (something Lana Del Rey hasn’t been able to do on a similar mainstream level—possibly because she’s viewed as “too dreary” for the main mainstream). Madonna, always underestimated for her singing-songwriting abilities, is, in contrast, a pop star of the prototypical order. The blueprint for every girl who came after her. She was the post-modern ideal (that arrived just as MTV did): media savvy and never missing an opportunity for self-promotion and “synergy” (read: advertising ventures with such companies as Mitsubishi, Pepsi [short-lived, but still], Motorola and H&M).
What’s more, she had no aversion to being in the public eye on an almost constant basis—prompting the rockumentary meets early reality TV stylings of 1991’s Truth or Dare. It is this Alek Keshishian-directed film that Madonna parodies in her ad for The Celebration Tour, with appearances by Amy Schumer, Diplo, Judd Apatow, Jack Black, Lil Wayne, Bob the Drag Queen (who will open on Madonna’s tour), Kate Berlant, Larry Owens, Meg Stalter and Eric Andre subbing out for the original Blond Ambition Tour dancers. A.k.a. the ones that sued Madonna afterward and then made a follow-up documentary called Strike A Pose in 2016.
The allusions to her early 90s projects also expand when Judd Apatow (one of many inexplicable presences in the room) dares Madonna to recreate one of her Sex book poses with Larry Owens, Jack Black and Lil Wayne. Afterward, Schumer then dares her to go on a world tour to perform all of her “greatest mothafuckin’ hits.” Madonna replies, “Four decades?” “Yeah bitch.” “As in: forty years?” “Yes.” “As in: all those songs?” “Fuck yeah.” “We’re talking ‘Like A Virgin’—” (a song, by the way, that Madonna has frequently paraded her contempt for). Amy interjects, “We’re talkin’ [singing], ‘Open your heart,’ we’re talkin’ [singing], ‘Tropical the island breeze.” Madonna and the others join in to sing, “All of nature wild and free/This is where I long to be/La isla bonita,” with Madonna stopping to say, “Wait, hold up. That’s a lot of songs.”
Ironically, however, in far fewer years, Swift has almost as many studio albums out as Madonna, making it possible for her to have fifty-five singles under her belt in the span from 2006 to now. That’s getting awful close to Madonna’s robust ninety singles—especially at the rate that Swift produces. So sure, Swift has the “rep” and the “cred” to do a greatest hits tour, but it’s hardly something that should be called “Eras” (perhaps largely inspired by the fact that she didn’t get to tour folkloreand evermore thanks to Miss Rona). For the eras of Swift are ultimately always the same, expounding on this, that or the other heartbreak (all while sporting the same blonde hair and red lipstick). Madonna’s lyrical topics are, conversely, far more varied. Needless to say, so are her looks.
And, though it makes more sense for Madonna to do a greatest hits tour (despite balking at the notion for so long), it’s odd, in a way, for her to bother with such a “theme,” for she always includes a few crumbs of that ilk on every tour—usually favoring the inclusion of “Holiday,” “Vogue” and the aforementioned “La Isla Bonita,” at the bare minimum. This is why one has to ask, is it really a “Celebration” Tour or a Capitulation Tour, with Madonna finally surrendering to the fickle tastes of the philistine hordes? You know, like Taylor Swift. But maybe, in the name of pop star symbiosis and catering to the hoi polloi, the two can join each other onstage again like they did at the 2015 iHeartRadio Music Awards. Since they’ll both be in greatest hits tour mode at the same time and all.
Keke Palmer is set to host “Saturday Night Live” for the first time on Dec. 3, alongside musical guest SZA.
While the “Nope” star has been acting since childhood, “SNL,” she said, is a “unique experience” that Amy Schumer has been helping her prep for.
“I’m thrilled to the moon. I just can’t wait,” Palmer told CNN in a recent interview. “I know it’s gonna be so much fun. I’m really excited about it and just looking forward to doing it. I think it’s gonna be a unique experience, but also some familiar territory. And then it’ll just be fun seeing how they do it, you know, on their side of it. Because I love sketch.”
“Amy [Schumer] actually talked to me about it and was walking me kind of through the whole thing,” she added.
Palmer said she’s looking at the hosting gig as kind of a “Broadway-ish” performance.
“I just wanna entertain, y’all and let’s have a good night,” she said.
As an entertainer since childhood, Palmer knows she is having a moment right now, but said she keeps her first planted firmly on the ground because she’s seen the ups and downs of Hollywood first hand.
“You know, the entertainment industry is funny that way. There will be moments in your life where everybody is just thinking about you and everything is always so exciting, and then it’ll be chill and then it won’t be as trendy or won’t be a moment,” she said. “I definitely do feel like there’s a bit of a trendy moment that’s happening [for me] and it’s fun and it’s exciting and I’m just loving to be able to continue to explore different avenues of entertainment … No moment lasts forever.”
Palmer’s star rose even higher over the summer with the release of director Jordan Peele’s “Nope,” which he wrote with her in mind.
She said it was an “insane” call to get.
“Jordan is just such a talented person and somebody I always wanted to work with again after I did ‘Key & Peele,’ and seeing how he has continued to evolve as a creator,” Palmer said, adding, “Then I read the script, I love the character. I love the world of sci-fi and adventure, but then I was like, man, this character is so unique. It’s such a rare combination that you get to play as a woman. That was such a cool arc that I was going to get the opportunity to go through from comedy to drama.
Palmer said she hopes to work with more directors.
“There are tons of people I think I could have some fun collaborating with. I would love to work with Samuel Jackson again. I would love to work with Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg. The list goes on. I would love to work with Jordan again,” she said. “Quentin Tarantino too, he’s very punchy and everything is very extreme in terms of entertainment. Like, he’s going to always give you a movie and a cinematic experience.”
For now, Palmer will be happily at home in Chicago with her parents for Thanksgiving. She has a current partnership with McCormick seasoning and said she even brings the company’s 10 spice box with her when she travels.
“There’s no reason for me to go to nobody’s house this holiday and for the them to not know how to spice up their food,” she laughed.
She won’t have that problem at home, however. Palmer said her dad does all the cooking and she gets a break.
Comedian Amy Schumer revealed Sunday that her young son was hospitalized this past week with respiratory syncytial virus, also known as RSV. She described the experience as the “hardest week of my life.”
Schumer, who hosted “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, wrote in an Instagram post that she was forced to miss SNL rehearsals on Thursday because her 3-year-old son was taken to the emergency room after contracting RSV.
Schumer said she “got to be with him the whole day at the hospital,” adding that now he “is home and better.”
For most healthy people, RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus, is a cold-like nuisance. But for the very young, the elderly and people with certain health problems, it can be serious, even life-threatening. The virus can infect deep in the lungs, causing pneumonia, and in babies it can impede breathing by inflaming tiny airways.
In the U.S., about 58,000 children younger than 5 are hospitalized for RSV each year and several hundred die. Among adults 65 and older, about 177,000 are hospitalized with RSV and 14,000 die annually. Worldwide, RSV kills about 100,000 children a year, mostly in poor countries.
The virus is transmitted through the air, often through coughs and sneezes, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
There has been a spike in cases this fall, which health experts attribute to the fact that children who had been social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, and were shielded from it, are now being exposed in large numbers.
“Pediatric ICUs around the country, many parts of it, are full,” CBS News medical contributor Dr. David Agus said last week.
Most hospitalizations now are related to influenza and RSV, not COVID-19, Agus added.
There is no vaccine for RSV. Pfizer announced last week that an international study it conducted on a potential RSV vaccine administered to pregnant women found that it could be effective at preventing severe cases of RSV in their babies.
