    What to Know About Applying for American Express Cards

    Here are a few things worth noting regarding American Express credit card applications:

    • Amex limits you to a maximum of 5 credit cards and 10 charge cards.

    • There’s normally no hard pull when you apply for a new Amex card and are not approved.

    • If you already have an Amex card, then applying for more Amex cards will normally not result in a hard pull.

    • You are not eligible to receive a welcome bonus on a card you’ve held in the past. This is known as the lifetime rule, but that usually applies to cards you’ve had in the last 5-7 year. Here’s how to check what cards you’ve had in that timeframe.

    • American Express will let you know during the application process if you are not eligible for the welcome bonus. That means that you can always go ahead and apply for an Amex card, and then just withdraw the application if you are not eligible for the bonus.

    • 90 Day Rule: You can get up to two new cards every 90 days. This rule excludes charge cards.

    How to Find These Offers

    You can try one of these options, and they work similarly for either bonus:

    • Open this link in a chrome desktop incognito. This is a link from Google that was working for many to pull up the 170K Business Platinum previously.
    • Google “amex biz gold” or “amex biz platinum” and click the first link.
    • You can also try another way that was shared in the comments for the Business Gold Card. Once you get an improved offer (usually 190K), just leave the page open and let it expire (takes about an hour or two). Once it expires, refresh the page and hopefully see the 250K bonus.

    If these “tricks” don’t work, then you just need to keep trying different links, referrals, browsers, locations, Wi-Fi connections etc. I have seen a few reports of Opera browser being successful, so you might want to try that as well.

    Guru’s Wrap-up

    We have seen offers as high as 300,000 for the Amex Business Platinum card, but that’s no longer showing up as fa as I know. 250,00 points is still a great bonus and worth about $4,000. The card comes with a $695 annual fee, but also has valuable benefits that, if maximized, give you considerable value.

    The same goes for the Amex Business Gold. While it doesn’t have as many benefits, the annual fee is also lower. A 200,000 points bonus is definitely a great offer.

    If you have friends or family members with Amex credit cards, then it’s worth trying their referral links first. Some referral bonuses are as high as 45,000 points currently, so that would be another added bonus.     You can try the usual method to try and get this offer to show up such as incognito, different browsers, different wifis and more.     Amex No Longer Considers Google Fi a Wireless Service Provider

    American Express has changed the terms on two of its cards, Business Platinum and Business Gold.

    The changes have to do with what counts as a wireless service provider. In both cases, Google Fi is now being excluded since June 21, 2024.

    Amex Business Platinum

    Amex Business Platinum cardholders get up to $10 in wireless credits per month. The terms now state the following:

    “Any purchases from Google Fi, third parties, authorized retailers or resellers are excluded.”

    You can see the terms here. Getting the $10 monthly credit with Google Fi has long been a headache anyway. It usually involved contacting Amex to have it done manually.

    Amex Business Gold

    Amex Business Gold cardholders earn 4X Membership Rewards points on the 2 categories where they spend the most each billing cycle. One of the eligible categories is “monthly wireless telephone service charges made directly from a wireless telephone service provider in the U.S.” And again Google Fi is excluded. The terms now state the following:

    “Any purchases from Google Fi, third parties, authorized retailers or resellers are excluded.”
