    Sydney Sweeney is finally addressing the controversy surrounding her American Eagle jeans campaign!

    You may recall that back in July, the actress teamed up with the clothing company for the now-infamous “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” ad campaign. She quickly came under fire after it launched, with social media users calling out the play on “great genes.” For instance, she said in one ad:

    “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”

    Many people accused Sydney and American Eagle of promoting eugenics — “the practice or advocacy of controlled selective breeding of human populations (as by sterilization) to improve the populations’ genetic composition,” per Merriam-Webster. When you have a White, blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman as the face of the campaign, it comes across as the brand is promoting those specific genes only, the same ideology as Hitler, which is extremely problematic.

    And that wasn’t the only issue people had with the ad! Part of the collaboration saw the Euphoria star create “The Sydney Jean,” which featured a buttery motif on the back pocket to represent domestic violence awareness, a cause she is passionate about. Because of that, she planned to donate all proceeds from the jean sales to a non-profit organization. It’s admirable. However, fans didn’t appreciate how the company executed the ad. They called it “tone deaf,” slamming Sydney for sexualizing herself while supporting such a serious subject matter.

    The campaign had a lot of problems overall, so you can understand why folks had a lot to say about it. Heck, even Donald Trump spoke out, unsurprisingly, in support of the campaign since Sydney’s a registered Republican. Meanwhile, American Eagle hit back at the criticism, insisting that the ad “is and always was about the jeans,” and nothing more. But what does Sydney have to say for herself? The Madame Web star remained silent on the issue for months, but she is finally speaking out… and not giving us much!

    When asked by GQ in a new interview published on Tuesday if she was surprised by the response to the ad campaign, she replied:

    “I did a jean ad. I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life.”

    That’s it? She’s not going to say one word about the eugenics promotion accusations and instead talk about her love of jeans? The Immaculate star went on to express how “it was surreal” to have the president and vice president praise the ad. When pressed if she felt thankful to have powerful people back her up amid the intense backlash, Sydney explained she really didn’t pay much mind to all the chatter surrounding the campaign:

    “I don’t think…. It’s not that I didn’t have that feeling, but I wasn’t thinking of it like that, of any of it. I kind of just put my phone away. I was filming every day. I’m filming Euphoria, so I’m working 16-hour days and I don’t really bring my phone on set, so I work and then I go home and I go to sleep. So I didn’t really see a lot of it.”

    Hmm.

    At the moment, Sydney is promoting Christy, her new biopic about former professional boxer Christy Martin. And given all the controversy surrounding the star lately, one may think she is worried that people will avoid the film, just like her other project Americana. However, she insists she is not! She said:

    “No, I think that if somebody is closed off because of something they read online to a powerful story like Christy, then I hope that something else can open their eyes to being open to art and being open to learning, and I’m not going to be affected by that.”

    GQ then gave Sydney one last opportunity to explain herself… and she didn’t take it. The outlet asked if there is “something that you want to say about the ad itself,” specifically about the comments on how “white people shouldn’t joke about genetic superiority.” To which, she responded:

    “I think that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear.”

    And Sydney apparently doesn’t want to speak much about this American Eagle ad issue. Wow. Reactions, Perezcious readers? Sound OFF in the comments!

    Sydney Sweeney is finally addressing the infamous jeans ad that sparked controversy and even led President Donald Trump to chime in.

    What did Sydney Sweeney say about the controversial jeans ad?

    American Eagle recruited Sweeney to promote their 2025 fall campaign, which focused on their denim collection. The tagline read “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.” The ad became the subject of controversy due to the pun on “jeans” and “genes.” Because of Sweeney’s blonde hair and blue eyes, many social media users, mainly on TikTok, believed the ad was promoting eugenics and white supremacy.

    In a recent profile with GQ, Sweeney discussed the American Eagle campaign and her reaction to the backlash.

    “I did a jean ad,” Sweeney said. “I mean, the reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life.”

    The ad became such a hot-button topic that Trump weighed in this past August. After learning about Sweeney’s voter registration, Trump supported the ad.

    “She’s a registered Republican? Oh, now I love her ad,” Trump said about Sweeney via CNN.

    Sweeney told GQ that the president’s reaction to the ad was “surreal.” When asked how it felt that powerful people had her back in public, Sweeney revealed work allowed her to avoid the online chatter.

    “I kind of just put my phone away,” Sweeney revealed. “I was filming every day. I’m filming Euphoria, so I’m working 16-hour days, and I don’t really bring my phone on set, so I work and then I go home and I go to sleep. So I didn’t really see a lot of it.”

    Despite the online controversy, American Eagle’s stock price rose by nearly 40% after the ad went public. At the time, Sweeney knew the numbers for American Eagle were going up and that much of the backlash was “just a lot of talk.”

    “I knew at the end of the day what that ad was for, and it was great jeans, it didn’t affect me one way or the other,” Sweeney explained.

    Sweeney is currently promoting Christy, an upcoming boxing biopic opening in theaters on November 7, 2025.

In the pages of Vanity Fair, the actress shut down all American Eagle jeans ad talk ahead of her appearance at the fest. Sweeney went to TIFF to promote her new movie Christy, a biopic of professional boxer Christy Martin. “I am there to support my movie and the people involved in making it, and I’m not there to talk about jeans,” Sweeney said. “The movie’s about Christy, and that’s what I’ll be there to talk about.”

    Folks want Sweeney to talk denim because of her recent American Eagle ads which some saw as akin to nazi propaganda. The campaign put forward the idea that Sydney Sweeney has “good jeans” that are passed down from generation to generation. Critics of the ads said they were white supremacist and pro-eugenics. Those who defended them said basically the same thing, but in a different font. And Sweeney is saying nothing. She previously refused to talk about jeans at the premiere for Americana.

    Wall Street is still talking about the Sydney Sweeney jeans ad, however. The collection sold out within a week. But American Eagle saw slightly declining sales overall during the last financial quarter, per the New York Times. Gap seemingly responded to the eu-jean-ic controversy with an ad featuring girl group Katseye dancing to “Milkshake” by Kellis. The commercial has seen streams of “Milkshake” going through the roof, as well as a TikTok trend of doing the band’s dance inside actual Gaps. Daren Criss, time to once again get your ass to The Grove. Could be funny.

    As a girl who’s a die-hard football fan, it’s tough out here. I have men who don’t believe that I actually follow the sport and women who complain about having to watch the game in general. Football has been a male-dominated territory for a long time, but Taylor Swift is making groundbreaking changes.


    With her regular attendance at Kansas City Chiefs games in support of her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, Swift is basically guaranteeing that women will be there for NFL games now…even if it’s only to catch a glimpse of Miss Swift herself.

    And even if you’re not a Swiftie, more and more women are watching football more than ever. Whether it’s because your father, brother, uncle, friend, or boyfriend forced you to watch alongside them…or because you and your gal pals started an all female fantasy football league just for fun.

    Where I live, Sundays are great days to go out and socialize. Bars are packed with people watching the games, so even if you’re not a fan it’s a fantastic excuse to get out of your house.

    Morning Consult Brand Intelligence reported that, in December 2023, 64% of Gen-Z and millennial women held the NFL in a favorable view. The interest surrounding football goes beyond Swift now, and the NFL must do something to continue to capitalize on that.

    Yes, it helps that heartthrobs like Joe Burrow exist simply to keep women interested. But what’s more interesting is that women are starting to care about the game itself.

    I’m in an all girls fantasy league, where almost no one cared about football beforehand. However now, everyone is super invested in their teams.

    But even more critical is looking good during the football season. For so long, the NFL neglected their women’s merch. Even more egregious, all the team apparel for women was hideous.

    However, since football has turned over a new leaf…things have improved significantly. Now, it’s about looking trendy this 2024 football season. And I’m here to make sure you do just that.

    Here are my favorite women’s NFL apparel picks for 2024:

    Abercrombie

    Abercrombie genuinely has some of the best NFL apparel for both men and women. It’s all on-trend, vintage in the right way, and a fan favorite. Seriously, every girl I know has one of the NFL sweatshirts from Abercrombie.

    American Eagle Sues Westfield For Allowing S.F. Mall to ‘Deteriorate’ | Entrepreneur

    American Eagle, a prominent clothing brand with a significant presence at Westfield’s San Francisco Centre on Market Street, has taken legal action against the former operator of the mall, accusing it of allowing the property to “deteriorate into disarray” and become a hotbed for criminal activity, The San Francisco Chronicle reported.

    The lawsuit contends that between May 2020 and May 2023, more than 100 significant security incidents occurred within the American Eagle store.

    American Eagle alleges that Westfield, the co-owner and operator of the mall, neglected essential security measures and basic management duties stipulated in the clothing brand’s lease agreement.

    Employees have subsequently been subjected to a range of security incidents, including “gun violence, physical assaults, burglaries, and robberies,” since the Covid-19 pandemic began in 2020. The lawsuit also says that “on multiple occasions” patrons “brandished firearms while verbally assaulting the store’s employees.”

    Filed in San Francisco Superior Court on Monday, the lawsuit demands “all actual and compensatory monetary damages” due to the alleged breach of contract concerning mall security and maintenance, as outlined in American Eagle’s lease agreement that extends until 2028.

    In June, Westfield announced that it would transfer control of its San Francisco shopping center on Market Street to its lender, citing “challenging operating conditions” as the reason.

    “Westfield cannot walk away from the harm that it has caused without consequence,” American Eagle’s lawsuit states. “It must be held accountable for the damages caused by its failures and broken promises.”

    This lawsuit emerges amidst a series of setbacks for San Francisco’s Union Square district. Since 2019, more than 90 retailers have closed up shop in San Francisco’s Union Square area, according to the San Francisco Standard.

    As for the mall on Market Street, several businesses, including Nordstrom and Cinemark movie complex, have closed their doors in Westfield in recent months.
