  • AMC Theatres to ‘Block and Reserve Best Seats’ for A-List and Stubs Premiere Members

    AMC Theatres is offering a new perk to its loyalty program members: Customers who pay a monthly fee for A-List or Stubs Premiere will get priority access to the best seats in the house.

    The program is expected to launch in 2026, the company’s chairman Adam Aron on Tuesday’s earnings call. This change comes three years after AMC tested (and then abandoned) Sightline at AMC, a ticket pricing initiative based on seat location within the auditorium. 

    “Later this year, AMC will introduce preferred premier seating, where we will block and reserve the best seats in the house in our theaters to be accessed first only by our A-List and our Stubs Premiere members — that’s the two VIP tiers within our Stubs program — at no added charge at AMC,” Aron said during the call. “We will assure the best seats in our auditoriums are held, at first anyway, for our best customers.”

    Of course, seating preferences can be subjective — and AMC Theatres didn’t define which will be considered the “best” rows. But the pilot program for Sightline at AMC involved customers paying more money for prime middle seats with an unobstructed view and less to sit in the front row. It’s possible the new initiative will follow a similar pattern.

    In 2025, AMC raised the price of Stubs A-List to $27.99 per month in New York and California and $19.99 to $25.99 per month elsewhere in the country, depending on the state. Under the highest membership tier, patrons can see up to four movies every week in any format. Premiere — a tier below A-list that offers waived online ticketing fees, popcorn upgrades and other perks but doesn’t include the benefit of four-movies-a-week — costs $17.99 a month.

    “We think it will be a considerable consumer benefit that our most frequent guests will notice and greatly appreciate, further cementing their brand loyalty to AMC,” Aron added.

    Earlier this week, AMC Theatres reported a 10% decline in attendance during the end of 2025 as the chain’s quarterly revenue dropped to $1.28 billion, down 1.4% from the year prior. AMC has been testing all kinds of initiatives to lure customers in greater numbers. Last summer, the company started offering 50% off movie tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for AMC Stubs rewards program. 

    Although 2026 has been off to a slow start, Hollywood studios and theater owners are bullish that upcoming blockbusters like Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” two Marvel’s adventures in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and “Avengers: Doomsday,” as well as Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 5,” will help to push domestic box office revenues toward pre-pandemic heights. Across the entire movie theater industry, exhibitors have struggled to recover from the pandemic and dual labor strikes, as well as the rise in popularity of streaming services.

    “AMC is exceptionally well positioned to capitalize on a recovering box office,” Aron said. “And as I have said many times before, the not-so-secret formula to a full box‑office recovery is straight forward, we need more great movies from our studio partners.”

  • Taylor Swift’s “Life of a Showgirl” movie tops box office with $34 million in U.S. ticket sales

    Taylor Swift made a splash at the box office this weekend with her “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl” film earning $34 million in U.S. ticket sales.

    The limited-time film, which debuted Oct. 3 — the same day Swift’s album “The Life of a Showgirl” — was the top movie in the U.S. this past weekend. Globally, the movie earned a total of $50 million, according to an AMC spokesperson who shared ticket sale figures with CBS News.

    “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl” played at hundreds of theaters nationwide over the weekend to enthusiastic fans decked out in friendship bracelets and other Swift-themed attire. The movie featured the world premiere of Swift’s music video, “The Fate of Ophelia,” one of the 12 tracks on her new studio album, along with behind-the-scenes footage.

    “For Taylor Swift to harness the power of the movie theater to build her brand, create excitement among her fans, and create a communal experience outside of her touring, outside of her live performances, is really a stroke of genius,” Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for Comscore, told the Associated Press. “To be able to add another $33 million to the box office bottom line is much welcomed by theater owners who were looking for content for their big screens.”

    AMC announced the 89-minute film two weeks ago, prompting fans to flock to the chain’s ticketing site for the limited theatrical run from Oct. 3 to Oct. 5 in the U.S. It is the largest grossing album debut theatrical event of all time at the domestic and global box office, according to the AMC spokesperson.

    The release marks Swift’s second partnership with AMC. After the Eras Tour, which netted a record-breaking $2.2 billion, she released an accompanying concert film, becoming the biggest of its kind to date. That movie earned between $95 million and $97 million in North America during its opening weekend.

    Other companies have also sought to cash in on the hype surrounding the 35-year-old pop star’s new album, with Krispy Kreme offering doughnuts in its signature colors and KitchenAid releasing a limited-edition orange mixer inspired by the record. On Oct. 3, Magnum Ice Cream gave out glitter-coated bars at a pop-up on New York City’s Cornelia Street, where Swift once lived.

    Despite mixed reviews from critics, Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” became Spotify’s most streamed album in a single day within 11 hours of its release.

  • Launch party for Taylor Swift’s “Life of a Showgirl” is coming to theaters. Here’s what to know.

    Taylor Swift fans will soon get another chance to see the pop star on the big screen, as AMC Theaters on Friday announced an official release party for her “Life of a Showgirl” album, on Oct. 3 – 5.

    Called “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” the 89-minute theatrical experience will play at all 540 AMC locations in the U.S. as well as Cinemark and Regal theaters. It will also be shown in as many as 100 additional countries, according to AMC. Showtimes begin on Oct. 3 — the same day the album debuts — at 3 p.m. EDT, 2 p.m. CDT, 1 p.m. MDT and noon PDT.

    U.S. Ticket sales launched Friday, leading fans to flock to AMC Theaters’ website. As of 2 p.m, the wait time to buy a ticket, which costs $12 plus tax, was over an hour. 

    “Looks like it’s time to brush off that Eras Tour outfit or orange cardigan…” Swift said in an Instagram post Friday. “Tickets are on sale now. Dancing is optional but very much encouraged,” she added.

    As part of the experience, AMC will screen the world premiere of Swift’s music video, “The Fate of Ophelia,” one of the 12 tracks on her forthcoming studio album, at movie theaters across the country from Oct. 3 to 5. Fans will also be able to see behind-the-scenes footage from the music video, other lyric videos and Swift’s reflections on songs, according to the company’s statement.

    Swift announced the release of “Life of a Showgirl,” her 12th studio album, last month, dropping the news on her website and later teasing it on the “New Heights” podcast, hosted by her fiancé, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and his brother, Jason Kelce, a former center for the Philadelphia Eagles. 

    Travis Kelce and Swift announced their engagement last month.

    “The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” marks AMC Theatres’ second collaboration with Swift. “The Eras Tour” movie, was the top-selling concert film of all time, according to AMC. The 2023 film which documented Swift’s recording-breaking international tour, grossed $261.6 million globally, surpassing Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” (2009), according to online music publication Pitchfork. 

    Netflix in 2020 released a documentary of Swift’s life in show business entitled “Miss Americana,”  which was screened at select theaters across the U.S.

    Hope you like Blumhouse movies, because the company is re-releasing some old ones into theaters later this month.

    Hoping to start a new annual trend, the five day-long Halfway to Halloween film festival sees Blumhouse partnering with AMC Theaters (across 100 theaters in 40 US cities) from Friday, March 29 to Tuesday, April 2. Split will kick things off on the 29th, followed by The Purge (March 30), Ouija: Origin of Evil (March 31), Insidious (April 1), and 2020’s The Invisible Man (April 2). In the case of Insidious, that’ll also mark the film’s 13-year anniversary. Each screening will also give viewers the chance to win a giveaway or see a recorded message from a particular film’s director or cast.

    For those wincing about ticket prices wherever they live, Blumhouse has got you covered: tickets will run $8 a pop each day. The entire point of the festival, accoding to Blumhouse founder Jason Blum, is to “celebrate local communities of horror fans…with a fun, affordable and slightly evil night at the movies.” Along with big cities like Boston and Miami, theaters in Wichita, Spokane, Dallas, and New Orleans will be a part of the festival.

    It’s looking like this’ll be a summer of re-releases. Along with Blumhouse, Dreamworks recently confirmed it was bringing Shrek 2 back to theaters to celebrate that film’s 20th anniversary. Sony’s allegedly bringing its eight live-action Spider-Man movies back, too. Not only does Columbia Pictures turn 100 this year, the second entry in each Spider-Man era hits a significant milestone: Spider-Man 2 will turn 20 on June 30, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be 10 on May 2, and Spider-Man: Far From Home hits five years on July 2. (These re-releases may also have something to do with Madame Web underperforming, but who can say?)

    Beyoncé is bringing Renaissance to the big screen on Saturday night, premiering her new concert film at a star-studded event in Beverly Hills.

    The premiere, which is taking place at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater and includes a dress code of “cozy opulence”, featured a chrome carpet followed by a screening of the movie. Guests were invited to take photos on the glitzy step-and-repeat — which featured Renaissance film artwork — and participate in several other photos ops, including posing with Beyoncé’s signature silver horse.

    Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett, along with Janelle Monáe, Issa Rae, Lizzo, Halle and Chloe Bailey, Lupita Nyong’o, Tyler Perry, Niecy Nash-Betts, Gabrielle Union, Ava DuVernay, Lena Waithe, Kris Jenner, Robin Thede, Jeremy Pope, Laverne Cox, Marsai Martin, Coco Jones, Beyoncé dancers Les Twins and her parents, Tina and Mathew Knowles, were among the stars who walked the carpet; Beyoncé herself has not yet made an appearance. Following arrivals, attendees were brought inside the theater, where phones were locked up.

    Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, follows the star embarking on the Renaissance World Tour, her highest-grossing tour to date, and supporting the Renaissance album that helped her become the most decorated artist in the history of the Grammy Awards. It features behind-the-scenes footage as well as Beyoncé’s on-stage performances — documenting her from the tour opening in Stockholm, Sweden to the finale in Kansas City, Missouri — and is produced by the singer’s Parkwood Entertainment.

    The Los Angeles premiere will be followed by a world premiere event in London on Thursday, before the film debuts in theaters on Friday. The project is being distributed directly through AMC Theatres, much like Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour concert film that hit theaters in October. Swift also had a Los Angeles premiere for the movie — which became the first concert film in history to pass $100 million at the domestic box office — where Beyoncé made a special appearance.

    Beyoncé is known for her concert films, including Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé, which debuted on Netflix in 2019 and earned six Emmy nominations. The film followed her headlining slot at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which was praised for being one of the most iconic musical performances of all time.

    Renaissance tickets are currently on sale internationally.

    Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” film, which will be released in theaters on Oct. 13, broke the record for presale revenue at AMC Theatres just hours after presales were announced.

    “The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” Swift said in a tweet on Thursday morning as she announced the film and the opening of presales.

    Within just three hours, the film sold $26 million worth of tickets, breaking AMC Theatres’ record for single-day advance ticket sales revenue, AMC Theatres said on Friday in a press release.

    The previous record was held by “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which earned revenue of $16.9 million through single-day advance ticket sales before its release in 2021, CNN reported.

    AMC Theatres did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for additional comment on the record-breaking sales.

    AMC is serving as the film distributor for the “Eras Tour” concert film, which it says “marks the inaugural step of a new line of business for AMC Entertainment,” since films are usually distributed to theaters by studios.

    With the “Eras Tour” concert film in high demand, AMC Theatres said it will have at least four showtimes per day on Thursdays through Sundays in all locations throughout the U.S. The film will also be shown at other theaters, such as Regal and Cinemax.

    Swift’s upcoming movie has broken other records as well. According to Variety, the “Eras Tour” film also broke the ticketing service Fandango’s record for the biggest first-day ticket sales of 2023, ranking among major blockbusters including “Avengers: Endgame,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

    “Taylor Swift is giving moviegoing fans and the entire industry the ultimate gift by bringing ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ concert film to the big screen,” said Jerramy Hainline, the senior vice president at Fandango Ticketing, according to Variety.

    Hainline continued: “Not only is Taylor Swift’s concert film the best first-day ticket seller of the year on Fandango, but the concert film is performing like the superhero she is and ranking among the best first-day ticket sellers of all time from franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, DC Comics and more.”

    The “Eras Tour” film captures the entirety of Swift’s world tour for those who couldn’t attend in person or who want to see it again on screen. Tickets for the movie cost $19.89 for adults and $13.13 for kids — a nod to Swift’s “1989” album, which is set for re-release in October, and Swift’s lucky number “13,” Reuters reported.

    Moviegoers no longer have to worry about paying extra for better seats at theaters operated by AMC Entertainment.

    The company has abandoned its pricing plan, AMC announced Thursday, leaving the cost of all seats in any given theater the same. The decision came months after AMC, the largest movie theater chain in the U.S., launched a pricing initiative pilot at three theaters. AMC had planned to roll the initiative out more broadly by the end of the year.

    “To ensure AMC’s ticket prices remain competitive, the Sightline at AMC pilot program will come to an end at participating locations in the coming weeks, and the initiative will not roll out nationwide,” the company said in a statement.

    AMC noted that its competitors did not follow in the chain’s footsteps and charge based on seating choices.

    During the pilot, AMC offered three tiers of seating: value, standard and preferred. More than 75% of guests who previously sat in the preferred section continued to sit there during movies, even with the “slight upcharge,” according to the company. AMC said there was almost no increase in moviegoers sitting in the front row, even though there was a “modest” price reduction for the seats. 

    Many criticized the pricing plan when it was first announced, including “Lord of the Rings” actor Elijah Wood

    “The movie theater is and always has been a sacred democratic space for all and this new initiative by @AMCTheatres would essentially penalize people for lower income and reward for higher income,” he tweeted in February. 

    The company noted it now plans one testing “spacious” front row seating with reclining seats in select theaters later this year. Patrons will be able to “lay all the way back and relax.” According to AMC, the angle of the seats will make it easier for guests to watch movies from the front row. AMC did not say if these seats would have a different cost than those in other rows.

    There are approximately 950 AMC theaters around the world.
