  • Timothy Busfield Edited Out of Amazon MGM Rom-Com ‘You Deserve Each Other’ Amid Child Sex Abuse Allegations

    [ad_1]

Timothy Busfield‘s role has been edited out of Amazon MGM’s upcoming rom-com, You Deserve Each Other, following his child sexual abuse allegations, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

You Deserve Each Other, which stars Meghann Fahy and Penn Badgley, is based on Sarah Hogle’s bestselling 2020 novel of the same name. It follows an engaged couple who have fallen out of love and try to sabotage each other into calling off their wedding, only to fall back in love in the process.

Busfield was playing Bernie, father to Fahy’s character Naomi. A release date for the film has yet to be announced.

On Jan. 9, an arrest warrant was issued for the actor and director for conduct involving children that allegedly happened on the set of Fox’s The Cleaning Lady, THR previously confirmed. Busfield later turned himself in to authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and child abuse following an investigation of sexual abuse involving two male minors on the drama, which he directed several episodes for as well as played a small part in one episode.

While The West Wing alum has claimed his innocence of the allegations, he has since been hit with a second sexual abuse allegation. According to a prosecution filing, Busfield is accused of groping a teenage girl when she was auditioning for a role several years ago at the B Street Theatre in Sacramento, California.

Busfield previously faced sexual abuse allegations from a 17-year-old extra working on the 1994 film, Little Big League, which he directed. He settled with that accuser. And in 2012, another woman claimed that he groped her on a date, but charges were never filed against him at the time.

Amid Busfield’s new accusations, his talent agency, Innovative Artists, has ceased working with him. An episode of Law & Order: SVU in which he guest stars has also been pulled.

The actor will be in court next on Jan. 20 for his pretrial detention hearing.

  • Alan Ritchson Returns to Queensland to Begin Filming Sylvester Stallone-Produced Navy SEAL Pic for Amazon MGM Studios

    [ad_1]

Alan Ritchson is returning to Queensland, Australia to begin production on an untitled Amazon MGM Studios feature about decorated Navy SEAL hero Mike Thornton, Screen Queensland has revealed.

Principal photography kicks off this month at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast. The project marks Ritchson’s return to the region following his recent action thriller “Runner,” which filmed in Brisbane and the Gold Coast in 2025.

Australian director Patrick Hughes is helming the project, which chronicles Thornton’s real-life survival story in the South China Sea that earned him a Congressional Medal of Honor. Ritchson, known for his roles in “Reacher” and “Fast X,” stars alongside Joe Cole (“Subversion,” “A Prayer Before Dawn”) and Hoa Xuande (“The Sympathizer,” “Avatar: The Last Airbender”).

Sylvester Stallone and D. Matt Geller are producing under Balboa Productions, alongside Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman and Alex Young, Ritchson’s AllyCat Entertainment, and Alan Rautbort. Executive producers are Valerie Bleth Sharp and Mike Thornton. The screenplay was written by Mark Semos (“SEAL Team,” “Y: Marshals”), Ritchson and Jason Hall (“American Sniper,” “Thank You for Your Service”).

The film is supported by the Australian government through the Location Offset, the Queensland government through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy and the City of Gold Coast’s Screen Attraction Program.

The production was secured for Queensland through Screen Queensland’s Production Strategy and the federal government’s Location Offset.

Acting Minister for the Arts Tim Nicholls said the project demonstrates strong momentum for screen production in the state heading into 2026 under the Crisafulli Government.

“This latest project for Amazon MGM Studios will create employment for around 260 local cast and crew while injecting an estimated AUD50 million ($33.5 million) into the Queensland economy and supporting numerous small businesses,” Nicholls said in a statement, adding that the government remains committed to keeping Queensland as the country’s top destination for screen production.

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney highlighted the state’s expertise with military and water-based productions as key factors in the production’s return to Queensland.

“Queensland crews have an internationally renowned reputation for delivering complex action films and series and it’s fantastic to start the new year with such an ambitious production coming into Village Roadshow Studios,” Feeney said.

Hughes said he was excited to bring the project back to Australia. “The Gold Coast offers world-class crews, facilities, and locations, making it an ideal home for a production of this scale,” the “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” director said. “I’m thrilled to be working with Screen Queensland to bring this film to life.”

The Mike Thornton project joins a growing slate of Queensland-based films for Amazon MGM Studios, including “Balls Up,” “The Bluff,” “Voltron” and “Subversion.”

  • ‘The Idea Of You’ Author On Why She Regrets Saying Harry Styles Inspired Lead Character: “It’s Being Used As Clickbait”

‘The Idea Of You’ Author On Why She Regrets Saying Harry Styles Inspired Lead Character: “It’s Being Used As Clickbait”

    [ad_1]

Robinne Lee, the author of The Idea of You, regrets initially stating that the story was inspired by Harry Styles.

In a new interview, Lee explains why the fictional British boy band member, Hayes Campbell, was not just inspired by the former One Direction member after many have compared it to writing fan fiction.

“I don’t consider it fan fiction at all,” Lee said in an interview with EW. “Harry was one of multiple people who went into creating Hayes Campbell — he was the only one in a British boy band that was current at the time, I guess, and so that’s what people have latched onto. It’s unfortunate because it’s being used as clickbait, and when I’m writing for Hayes, I’m not picturing Harry Styles.”

Lee said that the fictional character, played by Nicholas Galitzine in the Prime Video film, us a combination of many real-life people.

“He’s very much like JFK Jr. when he was dating Daryl Hannah, and they were hanging out in the Hamptons — that was definitely the Hamptons Hayes,” she said. “And then there’s some Michael Hutchence sexiness when he was dating Helena Christensen. And I was obsessed with Duran Duran when I was young, so there’s a lot of Simon, and there’s a lot of John, and there’s a lot of actual Duran Duran Easter eggs throughout the entire book.”

Lee’s debut novel dropped in 2017 and was adapted by Michael Showalter and Jennifer Westfeldt for a film starring Anne Hathaway as a 40-year-old woman who falls in love with a boy band member, played by Galitzine.

The author said that Styles resonated with people when she said he inspired the character as he was still popular at the time, adding, “”Some of the other guys are still in bands and alive and out there on tour, but they don’t get named ever. And that’s fine with me. You create your character and you make him what you want to make him. He feels very real to me, and I think Harry’s just what people gravitated to. But he’s not Harry in my head when I’m writing for him. He is not Harry and he’s not living Harry’s life. He’s very much his own person to me.”

  • Amazon MGM Studios Buys Rights to Best-Selling Children’s Book Series ‘City Spies’ With Plans for Global Film Franchise (EXCLUSIVE)

Amazon MGM Studios Buys Rights to Best-Selling Children’s Book Series ‘City Spies’ With Plans for Global Film Franchise (EXCLUSIVE)

    [ad_1]

Amazon MGM Studios, the renamed joint venture of Amazon Studios and MGM, has acquired rights to James Ponti’s popular children’s book series “City Spies” and is developing a film based on the first novel.

The idea is for the initial installment to launch a global franchise, described by the company as a “four-quadrant action-adventure that will delight audiences of all ages and as a universe-building property for the studio.”

The story follows a 12-year-old coding prodigy, who is recruited by an eccentric MI6 agent to join the City Spies, a team of kids from around the world who feel unnoticed in their own lives. When they’re not at the local boarding school, they are mastering spy skills to go to places in the world of espionage that adults can’t access. The cast and creative team have yet to be set.

Since it’s early in the development process, it is not clear if these movies will play in theaters or land directly on the streaming service, Prime Video. Amazon’s prior original films were either exclusive to the streamer or, in the case of the Oscar-winning “CODA,” granted limited theatrical releases. But more recently, tech giants like Amazon and Apple have warmed up to the big screen because it can be used as a marketing tool to promote their respective streaming services. Earlier this year, Amazon Studios reportedly set intentions to spend more than $1 billion annually to produce 12 to 15 new theatrical movies a year.

Ryder Picture beat out several other production companies for rights to “City Spies.” Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett will produce “City Spies” for Ryder Picture Company with Rachel Rubin co-producing. Ryder, a founding member of FilmNation Entertainment, has produced films such as Sony’s GameStop-stock-inspired “Dumb Money,” Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi drama “Arrival,” Christopher Nolan’s “Memento,” and the cult classic “Donnie Darko.”
