Inviting the internet to ask you anything doesn’t always go great (hi, Woody Harrelson). But how else could Francis Ford Coppola entitle us to plow through the riches of his Emersonian mind? On October 4, Coppola tweeted on the Megalopolis account that he would be answering fan questions to “celebrate the spirit of DEBATE in the film.” The result wasn’t too contentious, though. In one of the most wow-worthy moments of the director’s brief AMA, he explained that he decided to name a character Wow because he met a “southern young lady” whose great grandmother was “so beautiful that her name evolved as ‘WOW.” When Coppola saw a painting of the great grandmother in question, he recalled saying — what else? — “wow!” (Honestly, a lot of people do feel that way about Aubrey Plaza, who plays Wow in Megalopolis, so that checks out.) Replying to another fan who was curious about the inspiration behind a scene with a hidden arrow, Coppola stated that he “thought it was funny.” Over the course of nine answers, he also promoted his Letterboxd, shared how often he thinks about the Roman Empire, and picked one title to highlight from his filmography. All fairly tame questions! Maybe next, the Megalopolis account admin will get Adam Driver to do an AMA about going back to the cluuuub.

On Sunday, the 2022 American Music Awards recognized many of the industry’s very best, with Taylor Swift winning all six of the awards she was up for and Lionel Richie being honored with the Icon Award. But it wasn’t just musicians making a statement on the red carpet.

“Abbot Elementary” star Sheryl Lee Ralph arrived in an all-pink number by Cameroonian designer Claude Kameni, which was adorned with a chevron-printed bustier and cutouts at the sleeves. She completed with a dazzling pair of matching pink mules along with statement gold earrings.

The 2022 American Music Awards took place tonight (November 20) at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater, where Stevie Wonder, Charlie Puth, Ari Lennox, and others took the stage to perform a medley of hits by Lionel Richie, who received this year’s AMA Icon Award. Wonder and Puth took turns playing various songs by Richie and the Commodores in the style of dueling pianos, including “Brick House,” “Easy,” “All Night Long (All Night),” and “Say You, Say Me.” The tribute ended with Lennox, Smokey Robinson, Melissa Etheridge, Yola, and others joining them onstage for “We Are the World.” Check out the performance below.

Lennox recently announced a North American tour behind her new album, Age/Sex/Location, which spans 27 cities and kicks off next January. She previously shared a video for the single “Hoodie” and performed “POF” and “Waste My Time” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

In February, Pitchfork honored Stevie Wonder by reviewing five of his essential albums: A Time to Love, Talking Book, Hotter Than July, Up-Tight, and Innervisions. Revisit Jayson Greene’s column “Stevie Wonder and His Dream Machines.”

Taylor Swift has made her official return to the American Music Awards. The 32-year-old pop superstar was bejeweled in a backless gold jumpsuit as she accepted the award for Favorite Pop Album for Red (Taylor’s Version) at Sunday’s ceremony.

The “Anti-Hero” singer wore her hair in waves and completed her look with her signature red lip.

It was a big night for the songstress, who was tied with Beyoncé for the most nominations by a female artist at this year’s ceremony. She’s also bagged awards for Artist of the Year, Favorite Music Video (“All Too Well 10 Minute Version”) and Favorite Female Pop Artist.

In 2019, Swift secured her place as the artist with the most American Music Award wins of all time.

Swift’s last appearance also saw her hit the stage and perform a medley of hits including, “The Man,” “Love Story,” and “I Knew You Were Trouble.”

During the ceremony, the singer — who was in the middle of a legal battle with her former manager Scooter Braun — was presented with the Artist of the Decade award. During her final speech of the night, the singer thanked her fans for their constant support.
