    ‘Sweet Papaya’

    First is ‘Sweet Papaya,’ a lighter, pop-funk-inspired track that feels like the album’s warmest moment. It sets the tone with a subtle groove and an easy confidence, almost like a sort of introduction.

    ‘Saturday Preacher’

    Then, the energy rises with ‘SATURDAY PREACHER,’ the title track and most visually defined moment of the project. Rhythm-driven and slightly theatrical, it carries the kind of presence expected from a lead single. The music video reflects this with a gradual shift: Cha Eunwoo starts out composed and controlled, then subtly reveals a second persona. This second persona carries a different kind of energy. He feels more intense, almost like someone watching from the outside and quietly steering what’s happening.

    ‘Selfish’

    ‘Selfish’ follows with a more modern pop feel, steady in tempo and layered with self-reflective nuance. It lands somewhere between performance and confession. It’s not overly emotional but pointed enough to linger and leave a message.

    Things soften with ‘Thinkin’ Bout U’, closing the album on a slower and more vulnerable note, which got us feeling some things (and it has been on repeat since).

    Most of our original pop girls are onto ventures like starting beauty lines, starring in films, writing books, and starting families. There wasn’t an immediate need to release albums or tour anymore. So the takeover of male artists on Billboard charts ensued.

    Of course, the shine to Taylor Swift will blaze on. But the world grows tired of hearing the same few artists over and over. As always, there’s a bright new, shiny Next Big Thing on the horizon.

    The summer of 2024 proves that you don’t necessarily need to be a “new” artist to rise to superstardom. Ever since Coachella, it has become clear that there are two Next Big Things in the realm of pop music:
    Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

    Both Carpenter and Roan signed to labels when they were young. You may know Carpenter from opening for Swift on
    The Eras Tour or her stint as a Disney star. And you may know Chappell as the opener for Olivia Rodrigo on The Guts Tour.

    Chappell has been signed to Atlantic Records since she was 17 – back when she uploaded an original song called “Die Young” to YouTube. Under Atlantic, Chappell released an EP and eventually, in 2020, released “Pink Pony Club.” Not long after, she was dropped.

    Everything shifted in September 2023. After being dropped from the label, she remained independent until releasing her debut album,
    The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, through Island Records.

    Come 2024, Chappell toured the album in two parts, captivating fans’ hearts with her wit, her live vocal ability, and her homemade tour outfits that were equally as camp as her music.

    In the meantime, she remained in control of her social media accounts. Regularly posting funny TikTok anecdotes, capturing more fans in her web along the way. Although Chappell’s album was receiving rave reviews, we were still a little ways away from the world finding her.

    Once she joined friend Olivia Rodrigo on
    The Guts Tour (previously appearing as The SOUR Tour opener), Roan’s streams saw a 32% increase. But this was only the beginning.

    April 2024 marks the complete juggernaut of Chappell Roan’s career. She’s no longer a best-kept secret. Chappell Roan – who sings candidly about sexuality and celebrates being gay in her drag-inspired makeup, her wild red hair, and her Lady Gaga-esque dedication to dramatics – was about to become the next mega-popstar.

    In early April, Chappell released “Good Luck Babe” as the next single from

    However, during Chappell Roan’s Weekend I set, the Gobi tent overflowed with fans and new listeners alike. The world was watching on the Coachella livestream. And thanks to social media, thousands of TikToks and Instagram Reels were sourced and shared to

    Chappell Roan caught the world’s attention by being true to herself. Her humility and humor make her relatable – she often displays emotions on stage no matter what they are. Her avant-garde makeup and outfits pay homage to fabulous drag queens and are reminiscent of Lady Gaga in 2010.

    And of course, her music brings back a sense of fun to the world. Each song is catchy, daring, and reveals Roan’s true colors. After Coachella, her monthly listener count on Spotify saw a 500% increase to 7 million.

    She took the stage at Gov Ball 2024 inside an apple, dressed as the Statue of Liberty, holding a massive joint…to a massive crowd – bigger than the headliners. She’s as in-demand as it gets right now…publicly declaring she turned down a visit to the White House until there’s liberty and justice for all.

    A few months ago, I sat with Becky Hill backstage before her sold-out Brooklyn Steele performance. As we chatted about her collaborations and the struggle of being taken seriously as a solo artist, I could feel Hill’s passion. She’s an artist who takes her craft very seriously, someone who’s both humble and fiery all at once, with a voice that can bring an entire room together.


    Now, as I sit listening to Becky’s album a month before it’s released into the world for the critics and fans to pick apart and devour, I remember her desire to create real drum and bass music. I remember her promises of a record in the works, but I had no idea that it would be so powerful. The new album in question, Believe Me Now?, is a perfect summation of Becky Hill’s already illustrious career.

    Sure, she was discovered on season one of The Voice UK, but she’s also the only Voice contestant to score a #1 UK single. Despite mega-hit features on essential chart-topping house tracks like “Crazy What Love Can Do” with David Guetta, “Lose Control” with MEDUZA and Goodboys, “Gecko (Overdrive)” with Oliver Heldens, and “HISTORY” with Joel Corry…Becky Hill’s voice has been the main event- deserving of shining on its own, and not just because a male DJ is attached to the track.

    Which brings us to now: the release of her third and resoundingly best album, Believe Me Now?     Ahead of Becky Hill’s album release, I spoke to her about the real Becky Hill, dealing with her trauma, and more. Check it out below!

    PD: The title of the album, Believe Me Now?, seems to serve the message that you’re not messing around, you’re the real deal. Do you think your voice has finally been heard? Is this album the real Becky Hill?

    BH: Ah thank you so much! so lovely to speak to you guys again & I’m so glad you like the album!! This album has definitely felt like the coming of age of a lost girl that’s grown into a woman! I feel the most collected & comfortable in my own skin, like the hard work I’ve put into my career is finally starting to pay off & this album really reflects where I am in my life!

    PD: From starting on The Voice to now, what have you learned about yourself as an artist and a songwriter?

    BH: I guess before The Voice I was used to writing songs on my own in my bedroom & when I joined the music industry I started writing with other people. When lockdown happened I wasn’t sure if I could even write songs on my own anymore but I absolutely could. I wrote a couple of drum & bass songs on my own (“Hold On” – Netsky & “Here For You” – Wilkinson) & when starting this next album I wasn’t sure if I still had things to say, but I definitely did, they just grew with me. This album showed me how lonely I’ve been feeling & actually, on the business side of things, how determined I am to continue & build on the success I’ve had so far.

    PD: The track “True Colours” written with Lauren Aquilina is about your experiences with sexual assault. I know it can be difficult to open up about traumatic experiences in your music, but what made you do it with Believe Me Now?

    BH: I had taken all the steps of healing that I needed. I confronted the rapist, told my old friends, reported it to the police, had my old friends validate & apologize to me & now release a song about it. It’s felt like the final piece to the puzzle, being able to talk about something I used to feel so much pain & shame around & now to have released all that & show the world there was never anything for me to feel ashamed of in the first place has been so powerful. I spoke to my therapist about it last week, I guess I didn’t realize how much it had affected me speaking about it, she called it ‘the shame hangover’ & promised me that this was going to help others. “Self Esteem” is on the record too who has been dealing & talking about her experiences of sexual assault for a while now, so it’s been incredibly useful to have another artist to guide me through publicly speaking about such a sensitive subject.

    PD: These feel like some of your most emotionally vulnerable records…and yet you balance them perfectly with dance and house elements. Growing up in the dance community, what about it inspired your career?

    BH: Thanks!! That’s exactly the angle I was trying to create when making this album! It was the stories that my brother would tell of going to raves & having the best nights. The emotions I would feel that I didn’t know I had at such a young age that dance music would give me. The community of friends I had that were all so passionate about new releases on labels & artists & festivals. I loved all of it. It felt at its most prolific at the time I was discovering myself & my own taste in music. Dance has really changed my life, soundtracked it & taught me so much

    PD: This album showcases Becky Hill alone, not just who you can be on a collaboration. What was important to you while making this album and creating more solo work?

    BH: I guess I’ve always had different battles. Being a contestant on The Voice, or being a feature artist or not being able to release a song without having a feature on my record. I wanted to create a fully deep rooted dance pop album that showed I didn’t need anyone else featuring, that I could be a dance artist in my own right & that us girls can do it just as well, if not better than the boys!

    PD: Your headline tour starts in June. What are you most looking forward to?

    BH: Playing the new stuff!! I’m so glad I get to go out with new singles that people may not have heard already & show them the new stuff! The best part is seeing streams go up after gigs which shows that people want to listen back at home too, such a great feeling & I can’t wait to see everybody having a great time, that’s what my summers all about!

    At 17 years old, most of us were day-dreaming about our crushes, hopelessly scrolling through social media fantasizing about the day where we don’t live our parents. Unless you’re Obai, one of Gen-Z’s hottest rising stars who just seems to understand the industry so early into his career.


    His music has a hint of nostalgia- a sprinkle of 90’s R&B, a dash of passionate soul, and a whole lot of catchy pop lyrics lie within his songs, where he croons about growing up and relationships. He’s one-of-a-kind in the sense that he has his sound developed and his music refined at such a young age. Music is a gift, which is why Obai is receiving his flowers and garnering a dedicated fanbase.

    It started when he was just 12, posting covers anonymously on an Instagram account. Growing up listening to late 90’s and early 2000’s R&B greats like Nelly, Ne-Yo, and Alicia Keys, Obai was influenced by some of the best…and it shows in his music today, which immediately sent me back in time.

    In his newest project, his album called svnteen, he’s found his stride. Leading singles like “girls like you” showcase his vocal range, which is silky smooth and earworms its way into your brain. “girls like you” is the the epitome of Obai- blending pop and R&B, lighthearted and reminiscent of all the Neo-soul icons we love. He warns the listener, “I fall for girls like you…”

    It’s a valiant effort for a debut album, one that is almost flawless. You rarely get the honor of hearing an artist produce a cohesive nine track album their first time around…and yet, Obai does it. You can stream svnteen here:

    PD: Congratulations on svnteen! What was the inspiration for the EP?

    The inspiration for svnteen really all came into bits and pieces of my everyday life at 17, also mixed within my friends lives, and what they go through in relationships! I wanted to shed light on many topics that ran through my head throughout the year.

    PD: What are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learned while making these tracks?

    That sometimes stuff doesn’t need to make sense in the moment and that you’ll one day find the clarity you’ve been searching for as long as you try and stay present within yourself.

    PD: Which was your favorite to create?

    Probably “flyest in the room” or “weekend”

    PD: When you were 12, you made an anonymous Instagram to post covers…when did you start to reveal yourself as the voice behind the account?

    Haha, people just kinda knew after a certain point cuz my voice wasn’t too far from my regular talking voice at the time so when they started to comment new songs for me to sing and they started mentioning my main account. Once that happened, I chose to own up to it fully and not be anonymous anymore.

    PD: How did it help you really get into making your own music?

    I’ve always really wanted to make music, but I will say that seeing people ask for different songs for me to sing made me start to take my voice seriously and pursue my own thing creatively.

    PD: Who were your favorite artists to cover and how did they inspire your style now?

    There were definitely a couple great artists for sure. Off the top of my head, I remember singing a lot of Mario, Chris Brown, Tory Lanez, Bryson Tiller, and of course Justin Bieber. Truthfully, they are all I listened to when I was trying to get better with singing! Literally would sing their songs everyday.

    PD: If you could pick three words to describe the EP, what would they be?

    Moments, youth, infatuation.

    Claire Rosinkranz is no stranger to making music, it’s something she’s been doing since she was 8 years old. From a young age she was conjuring up ideas for her father, who wrote for TV shows and commercials at the time…it felt like she was just born for this.


    And so it began. For the next 8 years, Claire honed in on her craft- learning instruments like the piano, jazz guitar, and the ukulele- and along the way picking up a refreshing sense of lyricism and a songwriting ability that is both witty and honest. From there, she took to the likes of TikTok and Instagram to post her music.

    It was an exciting, no-frills experience to watch Rosinkranz grow her platform by just playing her original songs. She connected with fans through comments and live videos, and showed a bit of her personal life. Songs like “Backyard Boy” were the soundtrack to 1.5 million videos on the platform, going viral and establishing Rosinkranz as the most exciting up-and-coming artist.

    At only 16, she signed to Republic Records and began her journey, releasing two EP’s (
    Beverly Hills BoYfRiEnd, 6 Of A Billion) in the meantime. Her TikTok now has 1.2 million followers, where you get intimate bits of her everyday life, her music, her family, and her thoughts. She’s a joy to see live, doing her own sold-out headline shows, or touring alongside heavy-hitters like DWLLRS and Alec Benjamin, and more recently performed at Lollapalooza 2023.

    With lead tracks like “Wes Anderson”, “Pools and Palm Trees”, and “Never Goes Away”, we’ve already gotten a glimpse of
    Just Because: a promising, valiant debut that checks all the boxes. More notably, fun-loving “Swinging With The Stars” captures the glimmering essence of young love…and rumors of a video starring a very exciting surprise guest are swirling.

    It’s an exciting time to be a fan of Claire Rosinkranz, and I got to speak with her about this new album and what’s next below!

    PD: Congratulations on Just Because! For your debut album, did you have an inspiration or vision for it?

    I didn’t really have a vision. The whole thing was written as I was experiencing what I was writing about. So all of the songs follow last years timeline very closely

    PD: The trailer for the album gives off a vintage/nostalgic surf vibe, which kind of reminds me of your music in general. As a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist, what is your production style like?

    I’m not really sure what my production style is considered. I’m constantly growing and experiencing/ doing new things as a human so I think the production, the writing and everything else kind of follows.

    PD: Your TikTok bio is “I make music with my dad.” Can you talk a little about how you two started creating music and how you work together?

    My family has been playing/ making music around me my whole life. my first conscious memory of writing a song was at 8 years old . my dad would often have me come in and out of his studio growing up to write stuff for the projects he was working on and I loved it. there were some other significant moments that made me realize music was my passion and so at abt 15 years old I decided I would make an EP. Me and my dad worked on the whole thing together & then released it on our own. I’ve started to expand into working with others but he still touches everything I do.

    PD: I know it may be hard to choose, but if you could recommend three songs off the album what would they be?

    PD: What is the main message you want people to take away from your album?

    I hope that people can learn to be more present with all of the fleeting experiences of life. I learned so much from everything I went through to make this album but I wouldn’t have grown the way I have if I didn’t allow myself to feel it all so deeply.

    PD: What’s next for you this year? Any touring?

    Lots of touring ! going all around the US this next year as well as Australia and some AudioEditor dates!
