  • Alan Carr’s regret over his behaviour on cancelled TV show: “I was completely naive”

    [ad_1]

Alan Carr – who stars in Amanda and Alan’s Greek Job today (Sunday, January 4) – once opened up about his regrets over his behaviour on Chatty Man.

The Celebrity Traitors winner Alan, 49, hosted Chatty Man for seven years between 2009 and 2016, before its cancellation.

Between 2009 and 2016, Alan Carr: Chatty Man was a regular fixture on Channel 4, before its cancellation.

After being cancelled in 2016 due to low ratings, the show returned for a one-off Christmas special in 2017, before ending for good.

Back in 2023, during an interview with The Guardian, Alan briefly discussed the show, admitting that his behaviour on it still made him “wince”.

Every episode of the show would start with Alan giving a monologue, where he would make jokes about current affairs and celebrities. However, his jokes were a bit more…brutal…than what he would joke about today, as he admitted in the interview.

Alan explained that he used to watch Joan Rivers’ Fashion Police “regularly” – a show he described as “so harsh”. He then went on to admit that he used to say “awful things” in his monologues, where he would “punch down”.

‘No one wants to punch down’

Continuing, Alan said, “No one wants to punch down now. The world is so out of control, there are so many arseholes out there. Whereas I used to maybe slag off someone from X Factor, I think we’ve realised now who the enemy is. You should use your platform against someone worse than a poor reality star who can’t really sing. So now I punch across.”

When asked if he fears people trawling through his past work, he said: “I’ve been going now for 20 years. I’m sure there might be something out there, but people have to understand time. I haven’t got the time or the patience or crayons to explain time to them. And if they don’t understand how time works and how tastes change, then just don’t bother me.”

    Sketch he regrets

Alan also revealed the one sketch he regrets making.

In 2008, Alan impersonated the late Amy Winehouse, something he admitted he feels bad about.

” Now I go, oh my God: in the public eye with addiction. I feel like such an [bleep]. Because that poor woman. But we were just dressing up. And now I’ve lived with someone with addiction [referring to his ex-husband, Paul Drayton, who battled alcohol addiction during their marriage] and seen how out of control it is, and the emotional turmoil. I was completely naive. Twenty-four years old, thinking, ‘Isn’t it funny – look at her, staggering around with her pumps’. Oh, Alan, you bloody idiot,” he said.

  • Celebrity Traitors fans declare winner as a ‘hero’ in shock final: ‘Played a blinder!’

    [ad_1]

The Celebrity Traitors final aired tonight (November 6), and fans are relieved to find out Alan Carr won the game.

On Thursday evening, only five contestants remained: Traitors Alan Carr and Cat Burns and Faithfuls Joe Marler, David Olusoga and Nick Mohammed.

After waiting over a week, viewers tuned in to see how the episode played out. First up, following their final mission, host Claudia Winkleman revealed the charity prize fund totaled a whopping £87,500.

The group then met for the last round table of the series. Cat received the most votes and was banished. However, due to the rules of the game, she wasn’t able to reveal that she was a Traitor.

Soon after, the remaining four had to vote whether they wanted to end the game or not in front of the fire. Unanimously, they all voted to banish again.

Joe voted for Alan to exit the game. However, Nick, David and Alan turned on Joe and voted him out. As a result, he was sent packing, but still couldn’t reveal to the group that he was a Faithful.

When the group was asked whether they wanted to banish or end the game once again, all three voted to end.

However, little did David and Nick know that Alan was a Traitor. Upon telling David and Nick, Alan shocked the two and burst into tears.

Despite losing at the final hurdle, David and Nick praised Alan’s victory and the amount of money he won for his charity.

At the end of the episode, Alan told Claudia that his money would be going to the children’s cancer charity, Neuroblastoma.

    ‘What a brilliantly played game’

After being left gripped over the past month, viewers were buzzing that Alan came out on top.

“Omg!!!! Yes Alan!!!!!” one user wrote on X.

“Alan has played a blinder!” another person shared.

“Alan Carr hahahahah what a hero,” a third remarked.

“Well done Alan. What a brilliantly played game,” a fourth said.

“Wow I did not expect that reaction from Alan!” a fifth person expressed.

  • Celebrity Traitors fans turn on Alan Carr following shock decision: ‘He should be ashamed of himself!’

    [ad_1]

Celebrity Traitors fans were left fuming with Alan Carr after he murdered fan-favourite Celia Imrie tonight.

During Thursday evening’s episode (October 29), the remaining Traitors — Alan Carr and Cat Burns — had to murder another Faithful in plain sight.

Last night, Jonathan Ross became the first Traitor banished at the round table. In the same episode, comedian Lucy Beaumont was also murdered.

Tonight, the remaining Traitors were set a new mission, where one of them had to say, “Parting is such sweet sorrow,” to one of the contestants. Unfortunately for Celia, Alan ended up saying that exact sentence to the actress when the group was all together at the dinner table.

As a result, Celia was murdered that evening and immediately exited the show. Fans, however, were less than impressed with Alan’s decision and took to social media to complain.

Alan I AM NOT HAPPY Celia was supposed to wiiiinnnnn!!!!!! #CelebrityTraitors #TheTraitorsUK,” another person shared.

ALAN SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIMSELF #CelebrityTraitors,” a third remarked.

Nooooo! Cat and Alan have gone too far this time !! #celebritytraitors,” a fourth said.

“Noooo! Well that is unforgiveable Alan!” a fifth person expressed.

NOOOOOOOOOO NOT LIVING LEGEND CELIA ALAN HOW COULD YOU #CelebrityTraitors,” a sixth wrote.

    Cat Burns to win?

With the series finale next Thursday (November 6), bookies have been betting on who would win the show.

According to exclusive odds from SportsCasting, singer Cat Burns is the current favourite (5/4).

SportsCasting’s Shane Orton told ED! that Cat “has navigated the game with remarkable composure” after “staying largely unsuspicious”.

Meanwhile, former rugby player Joe Marler is also predicted to have a high chance with odds of 2/1.

“Joe Marler’s straightforward approach and clear-eyed attack strategy have also been notable. He was right about Jonathan being a Traitor all along but often lacked the support to convince others. All signs point to a fascinating battle between cunning and observation in the final stages,” Shane continued.

  • Celebrity Traitors star Alan Carr leaves viewers fuming over first murder: ‘Huge mistake’

    [ad_1]

The Celebrity Traitors was back for its second episode tonight (October 9) and viewers were furious after Alan Carr’s murder in plain sight victim was revealed.

Last night, The Celebrity Traitors host Claudia Winkleman welcomed 19 celebrities to her castle in the Scottish Highlands.

Once there, three were chosen as Traitors – Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr and Cat Burns. The decision angered some, but not as much as Alan’s decision to off poor Paloma Faith with a slow-working poison.

The Celebrity Traitors – Alan kills Paloma Faith tonight

Tonight’s show saw Alan Carr carry out his murderous mission. He was tasked with taking poisoned pollen from a lily and rubbing it on someone’s face.

He decided that it had to be one of the girls. And, after wandering into the kitchen and seeing his pal Paloma chatting with Ruth Codd, he decided to carry out his murder.

Touching Paloma on the cheek and telling her she had a hair on her face, Alan dealt his lethal blow.

The following morning, when everyone turned up for breakfast and no one was murdered, the celebrities were left baffled… Until Claudia came in and told them that appearances could be deceptive and someone was murdered in plain sight last night.

She then told the group that, by the end of today’s mission, one of them would be dead. A task that saw the celebrities return to last night’s graveyard for a funeral then took place.

    ‘Huge mistake murdering Paloma’

Of course, viewers knew early on in the episode that poor Paloma was going to be the first out. And they were left absolutely furious with Alan Carr.

“Oh Alan, not Paloma!” said one. “ALAN!!! Murdering your bestie,” said another.

Others branded it a “mistake” – both because Alan could’ve benefited from an alliance with Paloma, and because the viewers have been robbed of a massive character early on.

“Huge mistake murdering Paloma. She strikes me as someone who’d be huge entertainment value re the round table as the game went on,” said one.

“FFS Alan I hate you,” said another. “PALOMA HAS BEEN KILLED OH ALAN WTF HAVE U DONE!?” another devastated fan of the show said.

“Alan Carr is dead to me,” said another. “Choosing Paloma was silly, he needs alliances,” another warned.

Time will tell if Alan will manage to survive his first kill… Or if he’ll soon be outed and banished from the castle, just like Paloma.

The Celebrity Traitors airs on BBC One on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9pm.

  • Amanda Holden and Alan Carr ousted as hosts of Royal Variety Performance as Jason Manford takes over

    [ad_1]

The Royal Variety Performance won’t be welcoming back Amanda Holden and Alan Carr as hosts, after ITV announced Jason Manford as their replacement.

This time round, Jason, who had emergency surgery last month, will be at the helm for the first time in five years. “The Royal Variety Performance is always such a spectacular night. So I’m genuinely chuffed to be asked back as host,” he said in a statement released by ITV.

“The last time I did it was in 2020 – which, if you remember, was during the pandemic. I had a virtual audience… [it] was like doing a gig in front of a Curry’s window! Nothing says showbiz quite like getting heckled by someone who’s accidentally left their mic on while eating crisps. So I’m very excited to see some actual real-life human faces in the audience this time!”

As is the case every year, this star-studded event will also feature a performance from the winner of Britain’s Got Talent, which, this time around, is magician Harry Moulding.

Fans slammed Alan and Amanda’s ‘awkward’ exchange

While Alan Carr and Amanda Holden’s friendship includes fronting a range of TV shows, their double act at the Royal Variety Performance received more mixed reviews.

“You look fabulous, just on the right side of an Ofcom complaint,” Alan said in the beginning of last year’s show, referencing Amanda’s risque outfit.

“I feel a great sense of comfort and security sharing a stage with you, well it’s a high profile event and if Just Stop Oil come at the stage, I can use you as my human shield,” he added.

To which Amanda replied: “Well, good luck to them because I will end up being their first victim who ends up less orange.”

This exchange, which fans dubbed “awkward”, set the tone for the rest of the show. And, by the end of the show, viewers were begging ITV to bring back Bradley Walsh, who had hosted the event the year before.

Amanda Holden’s clap back to Royal Variety Performance hate

At the time, Amanda didn’t take the criticism lying down.

On a social media post, she wrote: “I know we should ignore. But it seems the same headlines literally word for word appear EVERY year…. For whoever hosts @royalvarietyperformance – (Bradley Walsh got the stick last year) so sad as it’s an honour to host this wonderful CHARITY event.”

She added: “It is unspirited and awful after such a joyous and successful evening. Me and @chattyman loved every second. All the big shows get battered… Our ratings were brilliant so that’s what counts.”

The Royal Variety Performance will air on ITV later this year.

  • Viewers’ 6 key complaints on everything that ITV’s Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream got wrong

Viewers’ 6 key complaints on everything that ITV’s Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream got wrong

    [ad_1]

Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream aired on ITV last night and the brand new entertainment show certainly got viewers talking.

But maybe not in a great way. While many loved the Abba-themed show, others wasted no time in complaining.

In case you missed it, the show saw 14 of the nation’s most talented musical theatre hopefuls head off to gorgeous Greece. And when we say the scenery was breathtaking… it was simply dreamy!

The hopefuls will be competing for the lead roles of Sophie and Sky in the West End production of Mamma Mia!.

But what did ITV viewers think of the new show? Let’s find out…

Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream aired last night (Credit: ITV)

Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream on ITV

The ITV programme seemed to be the love child of Love Island and The X Factor. It saw the hopefuls perform and show what they’ve got to the four judges – comedian Alan Carr, vocalist Amber Riley, theatre performer Samantha Barks and singer Jessie Ware.

Meanwhile, Zoe Ball hosted the glitzy show. It all started off on a great foot, but it wasn’t long before some complaints came rolling in from viewers.

From box ticking to the choice of judges, it seems aspects of the show didn’t go down too well.

    Choice of judges

The first complaint made by some viewers was the judging line-up. One person wrote: “As for the #MammaMia judges, I get Samantha Barks and Amber Riley, they’ve both done West End theatre, but I’ve never heard of ‘pop star’ Jessie Ware and whilst I love Alan Carr?”

Another added: “The judges are being far too kind considering it’s blatantly obvious several are wrong for the parts.”

Meanwhile, someone else wrote: “I like Alan Carr as a presenter…but I really don’t get the decision to make him a judge on this show.”

    Box ticking?

Some other viewers accused the show of ‘ticking boxes’. They thought that some of the contestants weren’t necessarily picked for their voices…

One person said: “Given that we didn’t see the auditions, I can’t help but think the finalists were chosen more for ‘ticking boxes’ purposes rather than their voices.”

Someone else claimed: “No way most of these were the best out of thousands of auditions just tick the diversity box to get through.”

Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream cast
Some viewers complained about the amount of screaming… (Credit: ITV)

Too much screaming on ITV show Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream?

Of course, the contestants were over the moon to be in Greece and performing on a Mamma Mia-inspired set. Who wouldn’t be?!

But it seems their excitement began grating on some viewers. Many complained about the amount of screaming! One said: “Sorry, but I turned off after 20 mins as too much screaming & not enough real singing!”

Another wrote: “We lasted a full 5 minutes of the new #mammamia programme. All the screeching made it like a 2nd rate cross between X Factor judges’ houses and Love Island.”

A third complained: “I didn’t make it as far as the singing, the screaming at the start was too much to bear. Turned off.”

    Tough crowd, eh?

Zoe Ball hosting Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream
Zoe’s dunagrees even faced a bit of criticism! (Credit: ITV)

    Zoe Ball

Now poor Zoe didn’t escape the criticism online as some took issue with her outfit choice! Channelling Meryl Streep’s outfit for character Donna from the Mamma Mia movie, Zoe opted for a pair of dunagrees.

One person tweeted: “I honestly think they edited the footage so we didn’t have chance to take in the true awfulness of Zoe Ball’s dungarees.” Ouch!

Others took issue with her hosting. One said: “It’s already annoying me. What a twee little show. Even Zoe Ball is annoying me.”

Another added: “I’m not sure so far, this hasnt won we over. Zoe Ball doing my head in.”

    Jet 2 music…

The show was sponsored by Jet 2. Which meant one thing. The return of Jess Glynne’s song Hold My Hand – the song the company uses for their adverts as well as flights.

And if you’ve ever been on a Jet 2 flight, you know it’s the last thing you want to hear on repeat. Especially when you’re coming home from your holiday!

Viewers thought the same as one tweeted: “If Jet2 are sponsoring #MammaMiaDream that means we’ve got to listen to that [bleep] Jess Glynne song for the whole series.” Yup.

Another added: “Jess Glynne Jet 2 ads haunting the new Mamma Mia series is nightmarish.”

    Adverts

Other viewers believed the show was interrupted by too many adverts! One complained: “@ITV killing @MammaMiaMusical TV show with all these adverts!!!”

Another wrote: “@ITV @mammamiadream surely you’re taking the [bleep] with the adverts tonight.”

Someone else ranted: “Too many adverts – which accounts for why this show is so bloody long.”

BUT. There were plenty of viewers who loved the new show. One gushed: “Love love LOVE this! #mammamiadream.”

Another added: “Ahh I love it! Such a good fun, entertaining, family friendly show, and it’s Mamma Mia. I mean, what is there not to like.”
