    13 Days after acquiring Jakorian Bennett from the Raiders, and 5 days after wondering if the Eagles had finished their off-season shopping. They struck again with another trade. 

    This time, the Eagles finished off the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade by re-acquiring the pick they previously swapped.

    Moving on from Harrison Bryant was one of multiple moves teams made this week by trading roster bubble players before the 53 man deadline on the 26th. 

    If Metchie was on the Texans bubble and at risk of being waived. The Eagles have the 32nd priority on the waiver wire, and would lose out players they’re after. Instead, teams are swapping late round picks to grab players they otherwise might not stand a chance acquiring next week.

    Ahead Of Unforeseen Circumstances

    The Eagles made a trade for a receiver that had many asking questions.

    • Is A.J. Browns injury worse than perceived?
    • Do the Eagles have bigger plans coming?
    • What did this mean for Johnny Wilson, Ainias Smith or Darius Cooper?

    Well, one of the receivers in question had their year ended when news broke that Johnny Wilson will be missing the 2025 season due to injury. Making the decision on how many receivers will make the 53 man roster a little easier.

    Now the Eagles can carry 6 receivers without leaving a preseason sensation on waivers or to the practice squad.

    Are They Done Yet?

    There’s still 5 days until the deadline. And even that hasn’t stopped Howie Roseman & Co. Before. With multiple trades coming right after roster cut downs leaves the Eagles with plenty of last minute options.

    And for a team that still has 13 picks in the 2026 draft. They have more than enough capital to round out the perfect roster on their road to Super Bowl 60.

    Ainias Smith Has Waited His Whole Career For This Opportunity.  The Eagles Need Him.

    Warming up in the middle of Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati was a new Eagles receiver not far from A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith. This wasn’t Zach Pascal or Jahan Dotson. This was Eagles Draft Selection Ainias Smith from Texas A&M.

    Three weeks ago, when the Eagles were without two top weapons (Devonta Smith, Brown) in Tampa Bay — the offense once again looked anemic. The team is once again looking for someone to step up as a another weapon in the receiving room.

    Smith was a fifth-round pick out of Texas A&M for the Eagles in the 2024 NFL Draft. He is to-date the only player in NCAA history with 2,000 receiving yards, 250 rushing yards, 250 kickoff return yards, and 250 punt return yards.

    Last week in Cincinnati was an another significant one for the rookies. Will Shipley blasted through the middle of the defense for a seventeen-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. The only problem was that it was called back for a holding penalty. Shipley could be key down the stretch in order to keep Saquon Barkley’s touches down as the playoffs approach.

    Ainias Smith was able to join the active roster due to a Bryon Young hamstring injury.

    It’s not an Eagles offseason without a weekly dose of roster moves.

    DeVante Parker’s 2-Month Stint In Philly

    The series of events started on Monday when news of DeVante Parker’s retirement broke. Suddenly, the Eagles were down a receiver.

    Signed on the 2nd day of free agency, Parker was the 1st of 4 receivers acquired by the Eagles this offseason, including:

    • Parris Campbell
    • Ainias Smith
    • Johnny Wilson

    There were mixed reviews when Parker was initially signed by the Eagles. He may have torched the Eagles in 2019, but he wasn’t that Miami receiver anymore. He barely scraped by the 500-yard mark in 2021 and 2022. Parker didn’t eclipse 400 on the 2023 Patriots.

    While their QB carousel provided no real chance for receivers, there was an interesting stat that may not have helped Parker’s case.

    Even coming to Philadelphia as competition for WR3/4, this didn’t bode well for Parker’s case to make the team, which had the Eagles in familiar territory to last season.

    Myles Jack’s 2 Week Stint In Philly

    On August 6th, 2023, just days before the Eagles first preseason game. They signed Myles Jack and Zach Cunningham to 1-year deals. Adding two players to the Linebacker core that had yet to sign Shaq Leonard and still had a healthy Nakobe Dean. Things were looking good for the Philly Defense.

    It was exactly two weeks later that Myles Jack announced his retirement, leaving the Eagles without a depth linebacker they could have used.

    However, Jack’s retirement was shortened. Exactly three months later, on November 20th, the Steelers signed Myles Jack to their practice squad. He may not have played until December, but he could have been a useful piece for the Eagles’ struggling defense down the stretch.

    Quickly Filling Holes, Eagles Add John Ross

    The Eagles were going to need to move on from Quez Watkins after the disastrous season from the WR3. Seeing Olamide Zaccheaus and Julio Jones not be re-signed wasn’t the best result.

    But bringing in four receivers while bolstering the Tight End depth they’ve needed for multiple seasons is a welcome change to Kellen Moore’s new offense.

    In the wake of DeVante Parker’s retirement, the Eagles didn’t let the week end before signing a contract for their OTAs, which resume on Tuesday.

    While Ross might not have played for the last 3 seasons, that might be the least of the Eagles’ worries. If former Colt Parris Campbell can return to his Indy form, there’s only need for a WR4 on the Eagles roster.

    This provides Ross, Smith, Wilson, and Ngata with plenty of competition for that final spot. And this is all before we get to any potential trade deadline targets in October!

    Of all the players still vying for that final receiver spot.
