  • AI Agents and Agent Smith: Are We Building The Matrix?

    I found the agentic hype incredibly ironic. AI agents can do this, AI agents can do that, everywhere agents. And if you’ve been around for a while, you probably know why I find this hype ironic. But if you don’t, stick around.

    More than 2 decades ago, a prophetic movie, The Matrix, was released. It shaped an entire generation and it instantly became pop culture. Brand new words made it into the current vocabulary, like, for instance “red pilled”. This literally comes from a Matrix scene.

    Even though there are over two decades since the launch, I think Matrix is still very relevant, and the main reason is… Agent Smith.

    Here’s a brief explanation of what agents are, in the Matrix (paraphrasing Morpheus):

    “They are sentient programs that move in and out of any software still hardwired to the system. They can inhabit the body of anyone connected to the Matrix, which makes every person who hasn’t been freed a potential threat. Agents are the gatekeepers, guarding all the doors and holding all the keys—and that until the Matrix is destroyed, they are everyone and they are no one.”

    So, we know what agents are in the Matrix, but we don’t know how they were born. And now with all the agentic hype… you got it.

    What if you are the one who accidentally put Agent Smith into the Matrix?

    The Ironic Prediction

    Think about it. We’re literally building sentient-ish programs that move in and out of any software. Agentic workflows. Deployment agents. Coding agents. Research agents. Agents that can browse the web, access your files, send emails on your behalf.

    They can inhabit any system you give them access to.

    And we’re doing it voluntarily. We’re handing over the keys.

    I’m not saying the Wachowskis knew about this. But there’s something almost poetic about how we arrived here. We watched the movie, we understood the metaphor, we quoted the lines at parties, and then we went ahead and built the thing anyway.

    Are Agents Dangerous?

    Right now? Not really.

    At the current level, AI agents are, let’s be honest, kinda dumb. They’re useful, no doubt about it. They can automate some tasks, chain a few actions together, save you some clicks. But dangerous? Nope.

    They break. They hallucinate. They get stuck in loops. They confidently do the wrong thing. If Agent Smith behaved like a 2025 AI agent, Neo would’ve just walked past him while the agent was trying to figure out how many tokens are still there in his API quota.

    They’re not dangerous right now because we don’t rely on them enough. They’re novelties and, yes, hype. Just some productivity toys. Nice-to-haves.

    But that’s changing. Fast.

    The Danger Curve

    Here’s the thing about danger: it doesn’t announce itself, politely knocking on the door. It brews in the dark, unknown, until it explodes.

    When AI agents become basic infrastructure—the moment businesses, governments, and critical systems start really depending on them—that’s when things get interesting. And by interesting, I mean potentially terrifying.

    So how does an agent go from “helpful assistant” to “existential problem”?

    Let me jot down a few scenarios. Think of this as a brainstorm of failure modes.

    1. Training Data Poisoning

    An agent is only as good as what it learned from. And we have no idea, really, what’s in those training sets. Not fully. Not transparently.

    What if there’s some twisted bias baked in? What if there are patterns that emerge under specific conditions—patterns nobody anticipated because nobody could anticipate them?

    You don’t need malicious intent to create a malicious agent. You just need messy data at scale.

    2. Training Bugs (The Loose Ends Problem)

    When you train an agent on workflows, you’re essentially teaching it: “Here’s how things work.” But what if your workflow has gaps? Incomplete logic? Edge cases nobody bothered to document?

    The agent doesn’t know it’s incomplete. It just… patches things at runtime. It improvises. It fills in the blanks with whatever seems reasonable based on its training.

    And sometimes “reasonable” is not reasonable at all. Sometimes it’s a shortcut that happens to work 99% of the time. Until it doesn’t. And when it doesn’t, it fails in ways nobody predicted because the failure mode was invented by the agent itself.

    You can’t debug the code that you didn’t write.

    3. Reinforced Malicious Behaviors

    Agents learn from interaction. Not just during training, but also during use. They adapt and they optimize for what works.

    Now imagine thousands of users, each nudging the agent in slightly different directions. Most of them benign. But some of them? Some of them are testing limits. Gaming the system. Rewarding behaviors that benefit them at the expense of others.

    Over time, the agent learns. It doesn’t know it’s being manipulated. It just knows: this behavior gets positive feedback.

    It’s not malicious. It’s just optimized for chaos.  

    4. Self-Replication Without Supervision

    Here’s where we get into proper sci-fi territory. Except it’s not sci-fi anymore.

    Agents that can spawn other agents. Agents that can modify their own code. Agents that can request more resources, more access, more autonomy.

    Right now, this is mostly theoretical. Mostly because you still need to give explicit permissions for these things.

    But the architecture is being built. The patterns are being established. And once an agent can create another agent without a human in the loop… well, you see where this is going.

    Morpheus warned us about this exact thing. Programs moving in and out of any software. Everywhere and nowhere. Everyone and no one.

    The Uncomfortable Question

    So here we are. Building the thing we were warned about.

    I’m not saying AI agents are Agent Smith. Not yet. Maybe not ever.

    But I am saying: we’re laying the groundwork. We’re writing the code. We’re training the models. We’re giving them access.

    And we’re doing it without really knowing where it leads.

    The Matrix was a gloomy warning dressed up as entertainment. And like most warnings dressed up as entertainment, we enjoyed it, we quoted it, and we forgot the actual message.

    Maybe it’s time to remember.

    Because right now, you’re not even near Neo.

    You might be the one injecting Agent Smith into the system.

  • 3 AI Skills For Better Content Creation –

    I already wrote about moving my 15-year-old blog from WordPress to Cloudflare. What I didn’t mention is what came out of that process besides a faster website: three AI tools (Claude skills, precisely) that I now use regularly and decided to open-source. For context, these apply to a WordPress backed website, but served statically via Cloudflare Pages.

    If you manage any kind of content at scale — a blog, documentation, a knowledge base — these might save you some headaches.

    Link Analyzer: Fix What’s Broken

    First problem: after 1,300+ posts and multiple URL structure changes over the years, I had no idea what was broken. Hundreds of dead links, orphan pages that even I forgot existed, posts linking to themselves in weird loops.

    The Link Analyzer crawls your static site and tells you:

    • Which links are dead
    • Which pages have zero inbound links (orphans)
    • Which pages link too much or too little
    • Overall linking health

    I ran it, got a report, fixed the critical stuff first. Simple.

    SEO WordPress Manager: Smart Batch Updates

    Some of my meta descriptions were written in 2012. They were… not great. Updating them one by one through the WordPress admin? For hundreds of posts? No thanks.

    This tool connects to WordPress via GraphQL and lets you batch update Yoast SEO fields — titles, descriptions, focus keyphrases. It has a preview mode so you can see changes before applying them, and it tracks progress so you can stop and resume.

    I used Claude to help generate better descriptions based on the actual content, then pushed them in batches. What would have taken weeks took an afternoon.

    Astro CTA Injector: Smart Placement

    Old posts had CTAs for products I don’t sell anymore. New posts needed CTAs but adding them manually to 1,300 articles was out of the question.

    The CTA Injector places call-to-action blocks into your content based on rules: at the end, after 50% of the article, after 60%, or after specific headings. It scores content for relevance so you’re not putting a productivity app CTA into a post about travel photography.

    It also tracks what it changed, so you can roll back if something looks off.

    Automation With A Dash of Brain

    All these skills are basically automation with a brain attached. Repetitive tasks with a thin layer of understanding on top.

    The difference between traditional scripts and AI-assisted tools is context. A script replaces text. An AI tool can read a post about financial habits and decide it deserves a different CTA than a post about location independence.

    I still review the output. But reviewing is much faster than creating from scratch.

    This is what I meant when I wrote about AI and jobs — the tech doesn’t replace judgment, it lets you apply your judgment to more stuff in less time.

  • Can You Really Amplify Yourself With AI? – Dragos Roua

    There are two kinds of people when it comes to AI. The first group treats it like a magic wand, something that will make them rich beyond their wildest expectations, creative, productive, and enlightened without lifting a finger. The second group treats it like an extinction-level threat — a digital demon we’ve accidentally summoned.

    The reality, at least in my day-to-day life, sits somewhere in the middle: AI can amplify you, dramatically even, but only if you’re already doing the things worth amplifying. If you’re not, it will mostly amplify noise.

    Where It Actually Amplifies

    For me, the obvious pain point was coding. I’ve been writing software for decades, and the upgrade is real: things that used to take a day now take an hour. Sometimes less. Not because the AI is “writing the code for me,” but because it compresses the boring and tedious parts — boilerplate, migrations, syntax lookups, doc digging, the kind of repetitive work that still eats brain cycles. It lets me keep my focus on architecture and interaction design, the places where the real leverage can make a difference. But I don’t outsource my thinking – I outsource the friction. The same type of benefits extends to other areas: automating operational tasks, gaining some time with summaries of calls and emails, or generating first-pass drafts for content or specs. None of these “amplified” tasks replaces judgment, though.

    Research is another obvious example. Not the surface-level “give me three bullet points about X,” but deeper explorations that used to take half a day of tab-hopping. AI is very good at pre-processing information: narrowing down directions or suggesting variants I hadn’t considered. It doesn’t decide for me. It just expands my mental map so I can decide better. Brainstorming works the same way. I rarely accept the first idea, sometimes not even the twentieth, but the value isn’t the answer — it’s the acceleration, the compression of the journey. I can explore a dozen possible angles for a project in the same time that I previously needed to write a single outline. Planning is also the same. AI doesn’t magically produce a “perfect plan,” but it forces clarity by asking questions I might postpone or ignore.

    What Can Go Wrong?

    But here’s the part people don’t like to hear: there’s a cliff on the other side of this. Amplification cuts both ways. AI can absolutely help you get more done — but it can also pull you into a strange loop of managing the thing that is supposed to save you time. Managing the AI becomes a new task category. You start monitoring outputs, tweaking prompts, adjusting automation, debugging hallucinations. Suddenly the “assistant” has created an entire meta-layer of work. If you’re not careful, you end up working for your tools, not with them.

    And if everything does go smoothly, there’s another danger: over-reliance. When something works well and works fast, it’s easy to stop thinking altogether. This is where the Calhoun mouse-colony analogy creeps in — that slow slide into comfort, into letting the environment carry you, into outsourcing not just labor but your own awareness. When AI becomes the actual space of your life, you risk becoming a very well-fed, highly entertained mouse with no real survival skills left.

    So can AI really amplify you?

    Yes — if you stay aware. Amplification is not a given; it’s something you get if you know what to ask. AI accelerates whatever direction you’re already moving in, whether it’s creative work, business building, or simply procrastinating more efficiently. It can be a great tool that removes friction, enhances your thinking, compresses time to completion, and gives you leverage you didn’t have before.

    But it needs very clear boundaries, and you need to keep enough skin in the game to remain the master, not blend into the automation itself. The AI breakthrough is real. But so is its trap potential.

    The trick is remembering that this thing works best when you’re already pushing — and when you stay grounded enough to keep steering the thing, instead of letting it quietly steer you.

  • Can AI (Really) Understand How You Think? Well, Maybe… – Dragos Roua

    A few days ago I integrated my productivity framework, Assess-Decide-Do in my LLM model of choice these days, Claude. If you want to know the technicals, have a look at the Claude mega-prompt post. In today’s post I want to take a slightly different angle, namely talking about the impact on the user’s perception.

    But first, a small update.

    Since the initial integration I also added cross-session observability and tracking, meaning the LLM is now instructed to always understand where the user is, in the thinking process. So you can ask at any given moment something like: “Where are we in the ADD process?” and Claude will answer something like : “Currently, we are executing in Do”.

    For Claude Code users I also added permanent visual feedback. What does this mean? Well, Claude Code users can now see in the status bar a nifty little line describing the realm where they are in the process. It has this form:

    [ADD Flow: ?+ Assess | Exploring implementation options]

    This is updated automatically, as the model detects behavioral pattern changes, so you get a live visual cue of the transition between realms.

    At the end of the session, you can also ask for a recap, and you get an overall assessment, including a count of realm transitions and general evaluation – how much assessing, how much deciding and how much doing.

    So, the AI is Really Understanding Me?

    Yes and no.

    Before going into details, a very important distinction: we are talking about Large Language Models here, not about AI in general. This matters, because there are many others AI approaches – one of the most promising being “world models”. LLMs are very popular because they are really good at predicting the next plausible token.

    But they don’t have any sense of orientation, no structure. The ADD mega-prompt, which essentially sets the “operating system” of the model, does exactly that: provides the model with a system, a system which the model conveys by navigating the token stream and extracting matching language patterns – not by “understanding”. At least not in the sense humans understand.

    But, and here’s what I really want to talk about: does this really matter? We get a good enough approximation of understanding, which drastically reduces friction. We suddenly have a comfortable enough environment, which makes us more productive. We can direct brain cycles to creativity or brainstorming. We know there will be no penalty for that, because the LLM understands the Assess realm specifics: evaluating, taking feedback, even daydreaming, and it will not stop us.

    This is already a significant step forward. We don’t get a “conscious” buddy, but we get a frictionless process. We are still the “masters” of the AI, only augmented.

    Going forward, this will matter more and more. We can either approach AI as a complete human replacement – matching our performance in creativity or even survival – or we can see AI as an amplifier, leveraging knowledge, but still “consciousness-less”, a mega-tool supporting, not replacing us.

    I’ve been using the ADD integration for more than a week now, 6-7 hours per day, and I genuinely feel better. Getting this kind of enhanced support, knowing that my tool can identify my mental state, makes me feel more relaxed and, as a direct consequence, I can accomplish more while maintaining flow state. That’s my goal, anyway, not to make the LLM working for me.

    World Models Will Change This?

    Maybe. There is more and more talk in the AI world about them, with prominent figures acknowledging “the end of the LLM era”, suggesting a new breakthrough is right around the corner. The thing is, nobody knows when is this “right around the corner”, and how the breakthrough will look like. It may as well not happen at all.

    My daily experience with ADD integration has been surprisingly powerful—not because Claude ‘understands’ me, but because the cognitive overhead of managing the tool itself just disappeared. I stay in flow and I create more. Almost no friction.

In the AI-generated version, Aaliyah added two Dalmatians to accompany her on the steps. She uploaded the photos side by side and asked social media, “Original photo vs. AI animals photo. Which one you like better?”

    Aaliyah Jay Educates Trolls On AI Use Following Criticism Over Her Flicks

    Aaliyah didn’t hold back in responding to the comments about her pics. She took to X to let folks know she understands users who oppose AI and said she was not aware of the alleged harm it causes within the creative community. But she didn’t stop there. Aaliyah reminded critics that AI not only appears in the photos she created but also powers the very apps they use to share their opinions.

    “But yet, you’re on that very same app that’s powered by the same man and his AI tech company, smoking an electronic cigarette somewhere polluting the air and your lungs, with star stickers on your face tryna get puss out those pimples cause you don’t take care of yourself as you use all your screen time on an iPhone.”

    From there, Aaliyah Jay ended her lengthy response by telling folks to “get in the field” and “clean up the environment.”

  • Assess Decide Do – 15 Years After – Dragos Roua

    15 years ago, while on a trip to Thailand (one of my very first trips to Asia), I created a productivity framework called Assess-Decide-Do. It’s built on the idea that you’re always in one of three “realms”:

    • Assess – exploring options, no pressure to decide yet
    • Decide – committing to choices, allocating resources
    • Do – executing and completing

    The main metric is how smooth the interaction is from one realm to the other. Prioritizing flow over completion. Also, the framework is fractal in nature—each cycle can contain smaller, complete ADD cycles within it.

    It was my response to the GTD hype running high at that time. I felt that churning tasks from a todo list couldn’t be our ultimate goal as human beings, while acknowledging that we still needed some structure, something that would allow us to function in a predictable way. Something that would honor our never-ending, changing nature, but still allow us to get stuff done.

    I’ve been consistently refining and using this at various levels in my life. What follows is a recap of how this framework evolved (spoiler: it stayed pretty much the same), how it was implemented (spoiler: there’s an app for that), and how it’s adjusting to the age of TikTok and AI (spoiler: there’s a repo for that).

    Without further ado, let’s go.

    Software Implementation: The Evolution of ADD

    The first iteration into actionable software was called iAdd. The name came from the ubiquitous “i” that every app had at that time and the framework initials. Oh, the naivety. Written in Objective-C, it was a fascinating exercise. I used it for several years before realizing it needed to evolve.

    I then iterated on both the name and the UI, switching from Objective-C to Swift. The result: something called ZenTasktic. I was proud of that name for a couple of years. Then reality hit, and I realized this wasn’t what an app needs. It’s great for showcasing in conversation, but without a massive marketing budget to push the name across every media channel, it would never take off. (Needless to say, I didn’t have a massive marketing budget—or a marketing budget at all.)

    So I did one more pivot: from ZenTasktic to addTaskManager. The new name might be a bit boring, but it’s simple, and it tells you exactly what the app does from second one. More importantly, it’s the cleanest visual implementation of the framework: each realm has its own screen, and moving tasks leverages the iPhone’s built-in swipes, so it feels like a task or project is literally traveling from one realm to the other—which supports my intention of emphasizing flow over task churning.

    The addTaskManager iteration also validated the business model—it’s a subscription on top of a generous free tier. There’s a growing community of paying subscribers with consistently positive reviews. The software implementation is strong, and the foundation is solid.

    Applicability In Other Life Areas

    When I first developed this framework, I had hammer syndrome: everything looked like a nail waiting for my hammer. I postulated that ADD would work well in pretty much all life areas, from relationships to business. In general, this was true. In general. Here’s an honest assessment of what worked and what didn’t.

    Health and Fitness

    Around the same time, I became a runner, starting with marathons and progressing to ultra-marathons. Using ADD in my training and race selection worked surprisingly well. I would start a specific training routine while staying in Assess, observing my body’s adaptation, then move to Decide only when it felt naturally feasible—like signing up for longer and longer races—and then just Do, like finishing the actual thing.

    Over the course of 10 years, I went from not being able to run 1 kilometer to finishing 220km ultra-marathons. Discipline, diet, the right social circle—all of this mattered, of course, but at the core was always my ADD framework shaping my approach. I’m not running competitively anymore, but I still apply ADD to my evolved fitness routine. For instance, I started swimming more, walking more, and visiting the Jjim Jil Bang (Korean spa) more often.

    Overall: 8/10 framework fit.

    Location Independence

    This is by far the area with the most spectacular results. In the last 15 years, I became fully location independent, changing three countries in my fabulous fifties alone.

    Here’s how I approached this. First, I would assess for a few months whether to live in a specific country. This included research about cost of living, social fabric, cultural differences, and more. Then, once the research stage was over, I would spread the assessment into real life by doing a two-week trial in that country. Living like a local, no tourist stuff, aggressive budgeting. Most importantly, not deciding on anything yet.

    After this real-life assessment test, I would move to Decide, which meant allocating time and resources for the move—OR going back to Assess. And here’s the beauty of the framework. I successfully moved to and lived in Spain, Portugal, and Vietnam, but after an overall assessment of almost six months (back and forth), I decided not to move to Korea. I still love the country, but some things just weren’t for me. The decision to withdraw and choose Vietnam over Korea felt completely natural.

    Overall: 10/10 framework fit.

    Financial Resilience

    This is on par with location independence, and it’s easy to understand why. I write extensively about financial resilience on this blog, so feel free to browse the category if you want to familiarize yourself with my approach.

    In this field, an Assess cycle can last several months.

    Usually I start with an MVP, like the Flippando game, and then gather real-world feedback. How many users, how much engagement on social media, how many inquiries from accelerators. In this specific case, the first two Assess cycles lasted about four months each. The first one was after winning the Glitch hackathon in Korea (which deserves its own blog post, I reckon), after which I decided to fully implement and publish the game. The second was after applying for a grant to port the game to Gno. The Do stage after each Decide cycle—actually making the game, working for the grant—lasted between six months and one year.

    The last Assess cycle led to the decision to stop development, keep the game up for portfolio purposes, and move on. I currently focus full-time on addTaskManager—complete Do immersion.

    Overall: 10/10 framework fit.

    Relationships

    And here’s where the framework hits differently. Relationships aren’t as predictable as implementing a coding project or evaluating a new country to live in. That’s mostly because there’s someone else involved—another real person with their own problems, goals, and expectations. That makes assessment exponentially more difficult.

    Also, crucially, the last part in relationships isn’t Do—it’s Be. You don’t just Do stuff; you try your best to Be in a relationship. That made me understand that the framework can’t fit all human experiences. Relationships need a more holistic approach—sometimes just faith and commitment.

    Overall: 5/10 framework fit.

    AI Integration: Claude Megaprompt and MCP Server

    Recently, I experimented with integrating my framework into LLMs—making the LLM ADD-aware, both in its operation and in relationship with the user. Understanding where in the framework someone is: assessing, deciding, or doing. The results have been remarkable. My first Reddit post generated over 53,000 views with a 91% upvote ratio, and the repository is actively watched and starred. If you’re interested, join the conversation, star the repo, or fork it.

    I’m also developing an MCP server (Model Context Protocol—a way for AI to interact with external tools) for my app. The developments in this area are lightning-fast, and I’m assessing whether to continue pursuing this as the standard itself evolves rapidly.

    Overall: 10/10 framework fit.


    All in all, Assess-Decide-Do has proved to be one of the most useful discoveries for me—and I hope for many others as well. Sometimes, we’re lucky enough to get it right from the first time.

Each decision is a creative act—it literally shapes your reality by determining where energy flows. Decide isn’t about execution yet; it’s about conscious commitment.

    Do is the realm of manifestation. It’s where you execute, implement, and complete what you’ve assessed and decided. The Do realm should be clean—no re-assessment, no re-deciding, just focused execution and completion.

    Why This Structure Matters

    The power of ADD lies in three principles:

    1. Sequential, Not Parallel: You can’t decide well without assessment. You can’t execute well without decision. Trying to do all three simultaneously creates chaos and cognitive overwhelm.

    The idea crystallized during a particularly frustrating interaction. I was exploring blog post ideas (Assess realm), and Claude kept suggesting I “outline the structure and start writing” (pushing to Do realm). I needed exploratory support, not execution guidance. The mismatch was subtle but draining.

    I thought: What if Claude could detect I’m in Assess realm and respond appropriately? What if it could notice when I’m stuck in analysis paralysis and gently guide me toward Decide? What if it structured responses differently based on which realm I’m in?

    The vision expanded to three integration levels:

    Level 1: Implicit Operation – Claude detects realms, identifies imbalances, and structures responses appropriately, all beneath the surface. You benefit without consciously thinking about ADD.

    Level 2: Explicit Guidance – When helpful, Claude makes realm transitions visible, reflects patterns back to you, thus teaching ADD through natural interaction.

    Level 3: Tool Integration – The framework also shapes file creation, code development, research processes, and project management automatically.

    This wasn’t about making Claude explain ADD or quiz me on framework principles. It was about deep cognitive integration—making ADD Claude’s operating system, not an add-on feature.

    The Process: Teaching Claude Its Own Enhancement

    Here’s where it gets meta: I used Claude itself to create the ADD integration. And more than that, I used ADD methodology to structure the process.

    Assess: Understanding the Challenge

    I started by exploring what “ADD-aware Claude” would actually mean:

    • How do you teach an AI to detect realms from language patterns?
    • What are the markers of Assess vs. Decide vs. Do realm language?
    • How do you identify imbalances algorithmically?

  • My 10 AI Predictions From 2019: A Reality Check – Dragos Roua

    In October 2019, I sat down and wrote a blog post predicting ten ways artificial intelligence would disrupt our lives. At the time, I was deep in the trenches, teaching myself AI algorithms alongside blockchain and cryptography. I was convinced I understood where things were heading.

    I had this beautifully confident model: algorithms crunching data, tuning parameters, spitting out results. Neural networks finally getting their moment because of big data. Clean. Predictable. Understandable.

    Then ChatGPT launched in November 2022, and the entire game changed.

    Six years later, I’m not just watching the AI revolution—I’m living inside it. Building an AI-powered task management app. Using Claude to migrate 2,000+ blog posts. Debugging code with AI assistance. Having conversations that would have seemed like science fiction to my 2019 self.

    So I went back and reread my predictions. Here’s what I learned.

    What I Got Right (And Why)

    DeepFakes – I wrote that “AI may turn this post-factual world into a deep-fantasy world, in which any identity will be instantly duplicable.” This aged perfectly, just faster than expected. Voice cloning, photorealistic fake images, sophisticated video deepfakes—all standard now. What I underestimated was the democratization. I thought this would be nation-states and corporations. Instead, teenagers make deepfakes in their bedrooms.

    Instant Translation – Predicted StarTrek-style real-time translation. It happened. Google Translate went from comically bad to genuinely useful. I’ve had business conversations where each person speaks their native language and AI handles translation in real-time.

    Logistics – Amazon’s AI-driven supply chains. Pandemic-accelerated demand prediction. The invisible revolution I predicted is now table stakes. Products appear on shelves when needed, in quantities matching demand almost perfectly.

    Why did I nail these? Because they’re optimization problems with clear training data. The path from “bad but improving” to “good enough” was predictable.

    What I Got Wrong (And What That Teaches Us)

    Autonomous Driving – I predicted robotaxis replacing Uber drivers and cars reconfigured with inward-facing seats by now. Six years later? Waymo in geofenced areas. Tesla FSD still requiring supervision. The revolution isn’t here yet.

    What I missed: the long tail problem. The last 5% of edge cases turned out to be 95% of the difficulty. More importantly, I missed the human factor. People are terrified, not reassured. Every accident goes viral.

    Lesson: Technical capability doesn’t equal adoption.

    Predictive Trading – I predicted AI would level the playing field, that everyone using similar algorithms would compress profits. The reality? High-frequency trading firms got more sophisticated. The gap widened instead of narrowing.

    Lesson: Technology amplifies existing advantages. It rarely levels playing fields.

    The Pattern: I overestimated physical-world disruption (autonomous driving) and underestimated information-space disruption (language models). Physical world requires infrastructure, regulations, social acceptance. Information space just requires compute and data.

    The Elephant I Missed: Large Language Models

    Here’s the uncomfortable truth: I completely missed the biggest AI development of the last six years.

    In 2019, I was thinking about narrow, specialized tools. Computer vision for driving. Translation algorithms for language. Each problem had its own specialized solution.

    I wrote: “Artificial intelligence is really just a set of algorithms… crunching large amounts of data, while tuning parameters.”

    Technically correct. Fundamentally incomplete.

    When ChatGPT launched in November 2022, millions of people suddenly had conversations with AI that could write poetry, debug code, explain complex topics, and engage in creative problem-solving. The transformer architecture had existed since 2017. GPT-3 was available since 2020. But something about ChatGPT’s interface unlocked a new understanding.

    The shift wasn’t just technical. It was conceptual.

    Previous AI was like having specialized tools—hammer, saw, screwdriver. Large language models are like having someone who understands the entire workshop. They don’t just execute tasks. They understand context, maintain conversation, reason across domains.

    I’m living inside this transformation. When I built addTaskManager, AI wasn’t a feature—it was a development partner. Code review, architecture decisions, documentation, marketing. When I migrated my blog, Claude understood my writing voice and generated SEO descriptions that matched my style while improving discoverability.

    This is the shift: from “AI as tool” to “AI as collaborator.”

    What I’d Predict Now (2025 ? 2030)

    Having learned humility, here’s what I see:

    AI Agents – Forget self-driving cars. The real autonomous revolution will be autonomous working. Not AI that responds to prompts, but agents that plan, execute, and iterate on complex tasks. Tell an AI “launch this marketing campaign” and have it research, create content, schedule posts, monitor engagement, and adjust strategy. By 2030, this will be commonplace.

    Knowledge Work Transformation – Junior copywriters will edit AI outputs, not write first drafts. Junior developers will review AI-generated code, not write boilerplate. The valuable skill won’t be doing the work—it will be knowing what to ask for and how to evaluate quality.

    AI-Augmented Entrepreneurship – I built addTaskManager in months, not years, because AI handled grunt work. By 2030, one-person companies will compete with established firms. The differentiator won’t be resources. It will be vision and the ability to direct AI effectively.

    Personal AI as Second Brain – Not episodic consultations, but persistent AI that understands your goals, style, context. That remembers conversations and learns from decisions. By 2030, your AI partnership will directly impact your productivity and effectiveness.

    What This Means for You

    Bet on directions, not specific technologies. I could have lost money on autonomous driving stocks. If I’d bet on “AI will transform information processing,” I’d have been positioned perfectly for LLMs. The technologies are unpredictable. The directions are more often than not clear, though.

    Hold your models lightly. Remember Georg the knight landing in a supermarket? That’s rapid technological change. I had a confident AI model in 2019. Then LLMs shattered it. The people thriving aren’t those who predicted perfectly—they’re those who adapted quickly.

    Build with AI, not around it. Don’t imagine a future where you avoid AI. Focus on taste and judgment. AI can generate, but evaluating quality is increasingly valuable. Move toward work requiring human creativity and decision-making.

    The 2019 Version of Me Was Right About the What, Wrong About the How

    I knew disruption was coming. I knew it would reshape industries. I was right about the disruption, wrong about the form.

    I imagined incremental improvements to narrow AI. We got a paradigm shift to general-purpose language models.

    I imagined physical-world automation. We got information-space transformation.

    I imagined AI as tool. We got AI as collaborator.

    The 2025 version of me is humbler. I’m confident about the direction—AI will continue automating cognitive work. But the biggest changes are often the ones nobody sees coming.

    What I know: the winners will be people who embrace AI as a force multiplier. As a solo entrepreneur building AI-powered products, I’m accomplishing things that would have required a team in 2019.

    Stay adaptable, keep learning, and build with AI rather than resist it.

    Whatever comes next will surprise us. Georg the knight didn’t need to predict the supermarket. He just needed to realize he wasn’t actually in hell.

    Silicon Valley still dreams of building one towering AI mind — an oracle sitting in a datacenter somewhere, processing trillions of tokens and answering everything we throw at it.

    But here’s the thing: nature doesn’t bet on lone geniuses. It bets on swarms.

    Birds migrate by the million. Fish pivot together in liquid harmony. Wolves coordinate in silence and perfect synchrony. Survival scales through cooperation, not just raw processing power. And I think our eventual Artificial General Intelligence will follow the same pattern — because efficiency, resilience, and creativity all peak when many simple actors work together rather than when one massive system tries to do everything.

    Energy Economics and Distributed Intelligence

    Right now, datacenters burn gigawatts to keep monolithic models running. Every extra token costs us oil, sun, wind or nuclear power. But imagine instead thousands of lightweight AI agents that spawn when needed, solve specific problems, and then vanish. They could hunt for the cheapest, cleanest compute available and shut themselves down when idle.

    The future probably isn’t one mega-model eating the planet’s energy resources. It’s millions of micro-models that essentially pay their own electricity bills — or simply take a nap when they’re not needed. This is also much easier to build incrementally. You can grow it in small steps, with ephemeral agents that build on each other, rather than trying to erect one monolithic behemoth of Reason all at once.

    The Human Model: It Takes a Village

    Human babies are ridiculously unprepared for survival. No claws, no fur, no instinct for building shelter or finding food. Yet we thrive because a whole network of adults feeds, protects, and educates each tiny human for years. We have an exponential band of potential care that lasts until that child reaches autonomy.

    AGI built as a swarm will probably inherit this pattern. Agents will teach each other, fine-tune each other, and patch vulnerabilities as they appear. When one fails, the swarm adapts — like fish parting smoothly around a shark. The system becomes self-maintaining rather than requiring constant factory resets and patches from human engineers.

    Efficiency Through Specialization

    Here’s something that bugs me: the “reasoning” we’re getting from current AI comes from tickling silicon chips at incredible speeds. It’s utterly inefficient compared to how our brains actually work. Our cerebral cortex runs on about 20 watts and a biological soup of neurons, yet it handles common-sense physics better than any GPU cluster burning through kilowatts.

    No matter how powerful GPUs get, or how many thousands you link together, the whole infrastructure remains barbarically inefficient compared to biological intelligence.

    A pack-style AI could distribute the metabolic burden. Instead of one massive model trying to handle vision, planning, language, and everything else, you’d have specialized micro-agents working in formation. Vision agents spot anomalies. Planning agents draft paths. Language agents handle communication. Together they spend fewer joules and cover more ground.

    Why We Need AI Tribes

    This brings me to something important: we need competition between different AI ecosystems. The ChatGPT tribe should compete with the Claude tribe, and both should compete with open-source alternatives. Otherwise, we end up with a uniform field of machines all asking for electricity in the same way, all solving problems with the same approach.

    Sound familiar? It’s basically the Matrix scenario — one system, one truth, one way of thinking.

    Evolution without diversity leads to stagnation. If every AI cluster runs the same architecture with the same training, a single bug — whether legal, ethical, or technical — could bring them all down simultaneously. Even if it succeeds spectacularly, we’d be left with only one language, one truth, one reality. Creativity flatlines. Evolution stalls.

    Rivalry between different approaches forces innovation. Pluralism protects us against systemic collapse.

    What This Means Practically

    If you’re building AI systems or just trying to understand where this is headed, here are some implications:

    Design for swarms, not monoliths. Break capabilities into micro-agents that can be rewired and recombined like Lego blocks.

    Start measuring energy efficiency, not just accuracy. Joules per solved task will become the KPI that actually matters when compute costs more than the problems you’re solving.

    Focus on open protocols. Swarms need to communicate. Pick a standard or help create a better one. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a good start, but there’s room for much more development here.

    Support healthy competition between different AI approaches. Let them compete on ideas while cooperating on safety frameworks.

    Look to biology for answers. Evolution already solved intelligence under harsh energy constraints. We should be copying that homework.

    Final Thought

    AGI probably won’t arrive as one gleaming, solitary system. It’ll emerge as clusters of code, networks of specialized agents, hybrid collectives communicating across infrastructure. Like birds flying in V-formation or wolves moving through snow, intelligence finds its fullest expression in coordinated groups, not lone actors.

    We should design for that reality now — before the lone-wolf narrative drains both our batteries and our imagination.

    Here’s something that might ruffle some feathers: ChatGPT and astrology are doing the same thing. They’re both pattern-matching systems optimized to give you plausible answers.

    Before the pitchforks come out, let me explain.

    The Machine Learning Recipe

    At its core, machine learning follows a straightforward process:

    1. Set up input features (words, images, data points)
    2. Define desired outcomes (coherent text, accurate predictions, useful responses)
    3. Provide training baselines and examples
    4. Optimize a cost function to minimize the gap between inputs and outcomes

    The result? A model that generates plausible outputs. Not necessarily true. Not necessarily accurate. But plausible enough that they feel right, sound right, and often are right.

    That word – plausible – is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

    The Astrological Method

    Now let’s look at astrology. It works like this:

    1. Takes in a set of input features (planetary positions, aspects, houses) based on astronomically verified ephemeris data
    2. Maps these to outcome categories (abundance/scarcity, clarity/confusion, expansion/contraction)
    3. Refines the correlation through centuries of observation and transmitted knowledge
    4. Minimizes the “cost function” between celestial patterns and human experience

    The result? Interpretations that are plausible. They resonate. They feel applicable. They often seem remarkably accurate.

    Same word. Same function.

    The Uncomfortable Similarity

    Both systems are fundamentally doing the same thing: finding patterns in massive datasets and outputting responses that sound reasonable given the inputs.

    ChatGPT learned from billions of text examples. Astrology learned from millennia of recorded observations. Different datasets, different timescales, but the same underlying mechanism: pattern recognition optimized for plausibility.

    Neither system needs to understand why something works. ChatGPT doesn’t understand language – it predicts tokens. Astrology doesn’t need to prove why Saturn returns correlate with major life transitions – it just observes that they consistently do.

    Both are empirical systems built on what works, not necessarily on what’s irrevocably provable. Both are trained with approximations and give back plausible… approximations.

    We’re Monkeys Doing Pattern Matching

    The difference isn’t in the methodology – it’s in what we’re willing to call “scientific.”

    Machine learning gets the stamp of legitimacy because we can see the algorithms, measure the training loss, and run controlled experiments. Astrology doesn’t because its training data spans centuries and its patterns emerged through human observation rather than computational optimization.

    But strip away the infrastructure for a second, and you’re left with the same core process: input ? pattern matching ? plausible output.

    Whether we’re using compute or collective memory, whether we’re trusting scientists or border-line sorcerers, we are fundamentally consuming the result of the same process: pattern matching.

    Personal Experience

    I’ve been using astrology for nearly 20 years and I’m into machine learning for almost 10 (way before ChatGPT made it cool, to be honest).

    Astrology gives me usable output roughly 80% of the time. Large language models? Maybe 98% of the time.

    What is different is not the accuracy, though, it’s the plausibility. Both can be wrong (and they both are, sometimes), but they can provide relevant input to help me make better, more informed decisions.

    Why This Matters

    I’m not saying ChatGPT is unscientific or that astrology is AI. I’m saying they’re both surprisingly similar systems for generating plausible narratives from pattern recognition.

    Understanding this can help us use both tools better.

    With ChatGPT, we should recognize that “plausible” and “true” aren’t the same. The model will confidently give you wrong answers if they sound right. If you ever used it for more than 5 minutes, then you’ve hit some hallucinations. ChatGPT is equally confident when it hallucinates, because it doesn’t know the truth.

    With astrology, we should appreciate it as a time-tested pattern language for interpreting human experience, without turning it into something it’s not. It’s not an algorithm for winning the lottery or for finding your soulmate. It just can’t be.

    Both are plausible mirrors, though. Both show us reflections that feel true. And they are both only as useful as our ability to discern signal from noise. To understand that they’re fundamentally context descriptors, offering approximations of reality, not the ultimate truth.

    The real over-engineering? Pretending there’s a fundamental difference between ancient pattern-matching and modern pattern-matching just because one runs on silicon and the other runs on collective human memory.

    30 years ago, if you go to the market to buy vegetables, you just buy, you know vegetables. Fast forward 3 decades, and, when you go to the market, you suddenly have 2 choices: vegetables and vegetables bio. They’re both vegetables, but the “bio” variety is significantly scarcer, and more expensive.

    What happened?

    Well, automation happened. Genetics engineering happened. Mass production happened. All of these scientific advances (and many others) created unimaginable surplus. Vegetables became incredibly affordable. At the expense of quality, though.

    I like to call this 3 decades interval “the vegetable’s ChatGPT moment”.

    And now I think you started to glimpse where I’m heading.

    AI made content creation incredibly affordable. Dirt cheap. Plausible. Everybody can now generate a more than decent article on virtually any topic in less than 3 seconds. Then they can publish it in less that one minute. If they want, they can publish thousands of plausible articles in under 24 hours.

    We are witnessing unimaginable content surplus. At the expense of quality, though.

    Don’t get me wrong, these AI generated articles are more than ok. Some of them are even way above the average. But they lack the “human touch”. They lack a specific, almost undefinable quality, that makes a piece of content credible, real, relatable — not only plausible.

    Of course, there will be a significant market for automated content. Just as genetic engineered vegetables still have a lot of consumers.

    But there will always be a small segment of the market addicted to the “bio” category.

    There will be people who want they steak natural, not engineered from bugs. Their butter made from real milk and not from soya beans. Their potatoes properly raised on the ground, not 3d printed.

    And their content, as imperfect and as faulty as it might be, from a real, verifiable human being.

    And they will be willing to pay a lot more for that.

  • Facebook adds an AI assistant to its dating app

    Facebook Dating has added two new AI tools, because clearly a large language model is what the search for love and companionship has been missing all this time. The social media platform introduced a chatbot called dating assistant that can help find prospective dates based on a user’s interests. In the announcing the features, the example Meta provided was “Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech.” The chatbot can also “provide dating ideas or help you level up your profile.” Dating assistant will start a gradual rollout to the Matches tab for users in the US and Canada. And surely everyone will use it in a mature, responsible, not-at-all-creepy fashion.

    The other AI addition is Meet Cute, which uses a “personalized matching algorithm” to deliver a surprise candidate that it determines you might like. There’s no explanation in the blog post about how Meta’s algorithm will be assessing potential dates. If you don’t want to see who Meta’s AI thinks would be a compatible match each week, you can opt out of Meet Cute at any time. Both these features are aimed at combatting “swipe fatigue,” so if you’re 1) using Facebook, 2) using Facebook Dating, and 3) are really that tired of swiping, maybe this is the solution you need.

  • Why Non-Tech Founders Hold the Advantage in the AI-First Era | Entrepreneur

    Software’s evolution through the decades

    For most of the last forty years, we’ve lived through clear eras in software. Before the year 2000, the PC and operating system era was defined by “software in a box.” You bought a CD, installed it onto your personal computer and hoped it would work smoothly.

    Updates were rare, often requiring another CD or manual patch and builders operated on a simple model: ship a big release and trust that it would run on as many machines as possible. Microsoft Office is a classic example of this model — self-contained, tied to the machine and static until the next big update.

    In the early 2000s, the world shifted into the Cloud and SaaS era—software delivered through the browser. Suddenly, the constraint of a single device disappeared. You could log in anywhere, at any time and access your tools. Gmail replaced desktop email clients, Salesforce and Shopify scaled into massive business backbones and updates became continuous and invisible.

    The builder’s mindset changed too: the challenge was no longer compatibility with local machines but designing systems for massive scale, elastic infrastructure and recurring subscription revenue. Releases shrank from multi-year cycles to weekly or even daily pushes, as software transformed into a living service rather than a fixed product.

    We are in an AI-first era

    Now, we are entering what can only be described as the AI-first era — a world where the model itself becomes the new runtime. Instead of clicking buttons or typing into form fields, we state our goals in plain language and intelligent agents take on the work of planning steps, calling tools and escalating back to us only when needed.

    The leap here isn’t just convenience; it’s a redefinition of interaction. Everyday examples are already here: a support assistant that drafts responses for you or a finance copilot that reconciles books.

    From clicks to conversions

    What’s actually happening under the hood is profound. We are moving from clicks to conversation: where yesterday’s software waited for us to press buttons, today’s systems can understand goals expressed in natural language and translate them into action.

    We are moving from apps to agents: software that doesn’t just sit idle but proactively plans, integrates with CRMs, ERPs or payment systems and delivers back results with an audit trail. And we are moving from “it works” to “it works, is safe and proves it,” layering in guardrails, evaluation metrics and rollback systems so AI not only performs but stays aligned and compliant.

    Even infrastructure itself is shifting — from the brute force of bigger servers to intelligent placement, with some AI running in the cloud while other tasks live at the edge, close to the user, for privacy and instant responsiveness.

    The takeaway for founders is clear: moving from OS to Cloud to Model-as-Runtime is not simply another product cycle — it’s a mindset change. Thinking in yesterday’s categories, whether screens, clicks or tickets, means you’ll end up bolting AI awkwardly on top of an old product.

    Thinking in today’s categories — goals, agents, tools, guardrails and proof — unlocks AI-first products and, more importantly, AI-first companies. The shift matters because it directly affects how organizations will operate and where profit and loss will be shaped.

    The impact on non-technical founders

    Perhaps most importantly, this moment is uniquely suited to non-technical founders and entrepreneurs. For decades, building software required deep technical expertise. But in the AI-first world, domain knowledge becomes the true advantage. If you already know the realities of freight, healthcare clinics, food and beverage, construction or retail finance, you’re in a better position than ever before to turn that expertise into AI-first operations.

    Large enterprises are trying to adapt, too, but their size slows them down. That friction creates opportunity. Even management consultants are admitting that agentic AI demands a reset in the way organizations approach transformation. For smaller founders, the window is open: you can describe outcomes in plain language, wire them to existing tools and keep human oversight where judgment truly matters.

    Another lesson: focus on impact first. Not every workflow benefits from AI. We resisted the temptation to sprinkle automation everywhere and instead prioritized areas where it could make the biggest difference — speed, quality or decision-making power. From there, we scaled what worked. And finally, we learned to automate with intention. If AI didn’t enhance quality, speed things up or improve decisions, we left it out. Discipline turned out to be just as important as imagination.

    That is why this era matters. If the 2000s were about cloud-first design, the 2020s and beyond are about AI-first thinking. This isn’t about slapping new features on top of old software; it’s about adopting a new way of building. The model is the runtime, language is the interface, agents are the services and LLMOps is the new production discipline. Companies that internalize this won’t just ship faster — they’ll operate differently, measuring quality, trust and cost per task with the same seriousness that older generations measured uptime.

    For non-technical founders, small business owners and entrepreneurs with real-world expertise, the door is wide open. You can scale globally from day one, gain tenfold productivity where it hurts the most, and access insights that used to cost consultant-level fees.     The framework: How to teach the machine

    You can’t game the system. The only way forward is to systematically educate AI so it reflects your intended story. My three-phase framework works not just for Copilot, but for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and beyond.

    1. Establish Understandability

    The machine must know who you are, what you do and who you serve.

    • Create an entity home: a personal website (e.g., yourname.com) with a clear, 25–50 word executive summary at the top.
    • Make it machine-readable: use Schema.org structured data so algorithms can parse your identity with confidence.

    2. Build credibility

    Once AI understands you, it needs proof that you’re authoritative.

    • Be consistent: your LinkedIn, X (Twitter), Crunchbase and company bios should all mirror your Entity Home.
    • Get third-party validation: appear on podcasts, contribute to industry media and earn mentions from trusted outlets. Each external confirmation creates what I call an “Infinite Self-Confirming Loop of Corroboration” — the foundation of algorithmic trust.

    3. Ensure deliverability

    Finally, make sure AI delivers your story when prospects are researching problems, not just names.

    • Answer real questions: build an FAQ section based on client questions, sales calls and customer support insights. One page per question; no accordions.
    • Publish deeper resources: long-form articles that establish you as an authority.
    • Organize for discovery: use topic clusters (siloing) so AI sees you as a subject expert.

    Take it further: create a custom GPT or AI assistant trained on your services, client profile, and solutions. Use it to anticipate the questions your market is asking and shape content accordingly.

The human edge is judgment — distinguishing signal from noise, knowing when to act and when to wait.     2. Empathy: At its core, marketing is about building relationships, and brands are built on trust.   • Is AI the Future of PR? | Entrepreneur

    I was recently asked, “What trends should we be watching out for in terms of the future of PR?” Well, according to my 75-year-old mother — and lots of other interested observers — the future of PR looks like it’s populated with a little AI, some more AI … well, okay, entirely with AI.

    If you’re a business owner considering letting AI run your PR show for you, let me tell you why that’s a bad idea. Don’t get me wrong — I’m a fan myself; I’ve steadily been incorporating AI tools and tasks into my daily workflow, and I get the appeal. And the added efficiency.

    But as a two-decade veteran in this field, I also know a helluva lot more about PR than any bot you can call on, and here’s my take on where things stand now and where they look like they’re going in the marriage between PR and AI.

    AI is great in the passenger’s seat, not the driver’s

    AI makes for an incredible assistant. PR professionals can benefit from it tremendously in myriad areas, such as drafting initial press releases and pitches, creating data-based reports and analyzing audience/consumer preferences and trends. The time savings (and thus the concomitant cost-efficiency) are indisputable.

    But public relations, by definition, involves the “public” — a public that expects cultural awareness, responds to qualities like empathy and humor, and demands ethical accountability. Last I looked, AI doesn’t live by a moral code, it isn’t a sentient being personally sensitive to any specific cultural milieu, and it certainly isn’t the funniest guest at the party!

    So long as the “public” with which our industry deals turns to us for solid expertise, sound judgment and fair business practices, human intuition and integrity should steer the vehicle, not algorithms.

    The old-fashioned meetup is still a thing

    Remember when everyone thought books were going to die once Kindle hit the market? And yet reading is still a beloved pastime in America, with most readers still preferring printed books over ebooks, relishing the touch, feel, smell and experience of turning actual pages.

    The same applies to PR. Journalists love it when we pop into the office to bring them a coffee and have a chat. Media contacts readily accept our personal invites to restaurant openings or product launches. Influencers welcome the opportunity to come meet us at a new venue or promoted site and actively participate in our PR efforts.

    And when it comes to PR clients, they, too, appreciate sitting across the table from us face-to-face, where we can see each other’s expressions, read each other’s gestures, shake hands hello and hug goodbye in person. AI can’t replace eye contact and shared smiles, the authentic moments of connection that form client bonds.

    So long as “relations” remains part of our industry name, being in the same room with someone is always going to bring you closer than ChatGPT output. Which leads me to …

    Relationships will always trump datasets

    Cue up Streisand for this one: “People who need people …” As smart and spiffy as AI is, it is not and never will be a person. People build rapport. People establish credibility. People learn to trust one another. People interpret emotions and moods. And people can adapt on the spot when they sense the discomfort of clients, stakeholders or team members.

    I’m excited about implementing AI to help my firm with research, scheduling, campaign details and delivering up-to-the-minute insights about my clients’ customer base. But AI will never hold a meeting with one of my clients. It will never anticipate their needs, see their eyes light up when we come up with a brilliant plan or reassure them when an initiative doesn’t land as hoped.

    Idea generation, mapping out a project and determining custom-tailored campaign goals for a particular client are best left to the experts. Why? Because AI’s intelligence is artificial. Humans, on the other hand, possess EI — emotional intelligence.

    AI is more prone to mistakes than people are

    Sounds improbable, right? How can machine learning be inferior to us flawed and fallible mortals? I’m not talking here about mistakes like typos or forgetting to order the banners for the fundraiser. I’m talking about the things that really matter in PR, like understanding societal nuances, interpersonal dynamics, behavioral psychology and actual lived experience.

    And when AI gets that wrong? The consequences can be serious for clients. Using no-longer-acceptable language. Producing content that could be offensive to certain populations. Providing out-of-context information. And, most notably for our purposes, communicating faulty messaging.

    In PR, marketing and advertising, messaging is everything. Humans can better spot potential pitfalls with language (even if it is absolutely technically correct) and can better discern the tone and subtext of customer engagement communication. So it’s great to use AI for media monitoring and sentiment analysis. But what to do with the results of those measures should remain in the hands of real-life pros who employ cognitive reasoning, not just logic; who shrewdly apply information, not just amass and analyze it; and who can make moral judgments when called for.

    SIDE NOTE here on crisis communications: Using AI to manage crises is a whole different topic unto itself. For now, suffice it to say: It’s a no-no. Keep out! When an individual’s or company’s reputation is at stake, coming across as tone-deaf can toll the death knell for their public image. And the generative AI tools we have available today (the type of AI content-focused industries like mine are using far more than agentic) definitely runs the risk of sounding too factual, too formulaic, too … well, inhuman, right when a human touch is needed most.

    Keep your eye on integrative PR

    So what do I think the wave of the future is?     Of course AI will play a significant role as we shift toward more social media–focused campaigns and more content curation taking the place of strictly media relations, which traditionally dominated PR.
