    And we’re back with another Weekend Playlist! Sometimes I wonder if I’ll ever grow tired of making cute little playlists for everyone to enjoy, but truly it never gets old. Especially when each week there’s new music released by artists everywhere.

    Instead of searching through countless Spotify and Apple Music New Music Friday playlists and checking social media for the hottest new tracks, I collect the best of the best to make it easy on you. Yes, I do all the hard work and you just sit back and enjoy.

    As we soak up the last few weeks of sunshine and Summer Fridays, there’s nothing you need more than new music to get you through. And, as promised, we have a whole playlist’s worth of new music released today, August 16.

    So, if you’re ready for the weekend already like I am…here’s a new playlist filled with new music! As always, let’s get listening.

    Hozier- “Nobody’s Soldier” 

    There isn’t much to say about Hozier’s angelic vocals that hasn’t been said already. He’s lyrically complex, weaving tales and transcendentalism into his music with every new single. Now, he’s here with a trilogy of singles and each is more delicious than the next. My personal favorite, however, is “Nobody’s Soldier.”

    Almost gospel, Hozier builds this dynamic track into a crescendo of vocals, heightening beats, and an orchestral backing that makes this perfect. It’s equal parts stomp-and-holler and indie folk, everything you love about Hozier…but refined, mature, and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll.

    Tiesto, AFROJACK, MC Ambush- “Light It Up” 


    We needed a huge EDM song for the playlist this week, and a few major names in house music stepped up for us. “Light It Up” is high energy from the very start, perfect for your pregames or when you need to get amped up. Seriously, this song is made for the club.

    Tiesto and AFROJACK are two of the biggest DJ’s out there right now, which is why this collaboration is all the more exciting. They know what they’re doing, and it shows with this track.

    Duke Dumont, Clemintine Douglas- “Ain’t Giving Up” 

    High energy and house driven, Duke Dumont has always made bangers. However, by adding Clemintine Douglas’ strong, electrifying vocals makes this track all the better. It’s great for clubs or intense workouts, getting your heart pumping as Douglas reiterates that she isn’t giving up on her lover.

    Duke Dumont is a titan in the electronic dance industry for a reason, and they’ve remained relevant by creating refreshing, yet consistent music. “Ain’t Giving Up” reminds us the summer isn’t truly over, and we can’t get enough of this track already.

    Post Malone, Jelly Roll- “Losers” 

    And so the summer of country music continues with Post Malone’s F-1 Trillion album out today. He’s got collabs with major country hitters on this album like Chris Stapleton, Luke Combs, and more. But specifically, we’re here to talk about “Losers” featuring Jelly Roll.

    A feel good song, “Losers” blends the voices of the two and melds them into one silky song. It’s reminiscent of slow summer days spent with friends and family, and the perfect addition to this playlist.

    Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars- “Die With A Smile” 


    They’re baaaaaack. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are household names when it comes to music, we’ve basically grown up listening to them. Any song they have is guaranteed to be a hit, so when they come together…it’s magic. “Die With A Smile” is a sign of the times for the duo…both a culmination of their vocal power and ability to write a hit track no matter what.

    Expect this one to be a radio favorite, as both musicians are giving us all they have. It’s a mellow, yet hard-hitting ballad that brings out the best in both of them. It’s ethereal the way they can work with each other’s voices so well, but that’s what you get when you’ve conquered your respective sides of the industry.

    Elle Darlington- “summer crush” 

    Fun-loving, an easy listen, bubblegum bedroom pop. That’s what Elle Darlington delivers with “summer crush”- it’s a catchy song about a summer fling…and every time I hear an Elle Darlington song, I’m reminded we’re in good hands when it comes to pop music. Darlington is like a breath of fresh air, and “summer crush” is reminiscent of a young Ariana Grande.

    You’ll find yourself easily dancing along to “summer crush”, singing “I don’t wanna be alone” over and over with her. Again, summer isn’t over until we say it is. This song was made for the sunshine and good vibes.

    Foster the People- “Paradise State of Mind” 

    In their first album in three years, Foster the People hasn’t missed a beat (literally.) “Paradise State of Mind” leans heavy on the synthy, indie sound that we know and love, while transporting us throughout a groovy, well-produced track. It’s one of my favorites on the album for a reason.

    The eponymous track is a statement: they’re back and they’re better than ever. It’s a mixture of 70’s sounds with extremely modern twists. A thrilling listen til the very end.

    How is it already August? As we enter the final month of the summer, we’re gearing up for even more new music to come our way. It’s the month of new albums from stars like Sabrina Carpenter, Post Malone, A$AP Rocky, and more…which means singles will be left and right.

    But that’s not all, we’re shifting into the fall releases for new music…and fans are speculating that a certain Taylor Swift will re-release Reputation (Taylor’s Version) very soon. So, there’s a lot to look forward to with the quickest summer ever coming to an end.

    And while we’re still in the middle of a heat wave, I’m looking forward to heading to the beach and getting some much-needed vitamin D…but that means I’m going to need a good playlist filled with new music released this week. Luckily for everyone involved, I create a weekly playlist filled with just that!

    I find the best of the best when it comes to new songs. I listen to new albums, read through every press release, and search every Spotify playlist for what’s actually worth listening to. Plus, the playlists aren’t terribly lengthy…so it’s a really manageable listen too!

    We’ve already wasted enough time here, so I want to get to the point. To enjoy a nice weekend, you need a weekend playlist. Let’s get listening!

    Charli XCX, Billie Eilish- “Guess (Remix)”

    If there’s one thing for certain, it’s that Charli XCX’s BRAT album inspired our summer. You may have heard about having a BRAT Summer, which includes partying as much as humanly possible and living your life…but Charli isn’t finished teaching us how to be a BRAT. Now, she’s partnered up with an unexpected collab: Billie Eilish.

    The remix is sure to be a hit. “Guess” on its own was enough to send Charli into the mainstream, but adding Billie’s flirtatious lyricism to the mix makes it a surefire radio play. It’s both pop and house, which is super timely considering a few popstars are heading to house music. BRAT summer continues, Billie style.

    Jessie Murph ft. Teddy Swims- “Dirty” 

    Two powerhouse vocalists join to create a soulful, cutting breakup anthem about a partner who has cheated on you. It’s every bit as vengeful and catchy as you’d imagine. It fully sums up when you’re done with a partner who’s treated you wrong while showcasing the vocal prowess of Jessie Murph and Teddy Swims.

    With two big names in the music industry whose star power continues to grow exponentially, “Dirty” is an exciting development from the pair. Ahead of Jessie Murph’s debut album, this is just the beginning for two rising stars in the industry.

    Gryffin- PULSE

    With new album, PULSE, Gryffin goes back to his house roots. He gears up with heavy hitter collaborations like John Newman, Rita Ora, Whethan, and more, all while creating catchy dance tracks that fit perfectly with the summer. An album made to be played on the dancefloor while surrounded by friends and music lovers alike, there’s not one song that’s a skip.

    PULSE is a great listen for those who need to start a pregame off the right way. With lots of synths, great beat drops, and strong lyricism, Gryffin continues to blaze his own path in creating pure EDM with his own, fun twist.

    Maren Morris- “Intermission” 

    Maren Morris has a cathartic, lilting voice that carries through her EP, Intermission. Surprisingly honest, a delight to listen to throughout its entirety…Intermission is a loving, honest submission into Morris’ catalogue. She’s impressive, but we already knew that. And that’s what makes her music so easy to listen to. About the EP, Morris states,

    “Here’s my heart journey and gamut of emotions packaged into 5 songs. Covering loss, catharsis, sexuality and gratitude, I hope you hear the light coming back to me in them and somewhere perhaps see it mirrored in you.

    RUFUS DU SOL- “Lately” 

    “Lately” is the first track from legendary EDM group, RUFUS DU SOL, since 2021 when they released “Music is Better.” Now, three years later, they’re here to remind us what makes them an essential group in music. Their sounds are light, sending you straight to a rooftop in the city somewhere.

    A borderline transcendental experience, “Lately” is both calming and upbeat at the same time. Soft in all the right places and explosive in others. If you needed a lesson on how the band can create magic in a song, listen to “Lately.”

    Carlita, SG Lewis- “The Moment” 

    Carlita is on the verge of her big moment. With her debut album coming in November, Sentimental, and a subsequent leading single with SG Lewis to showcase it, there’s no stopping her. “The Moment” is a thrill from the very start, combining every little skill Carlita has learned along the way of her already illustrious career with SG Lewis’ ability to make any song a hit.

    If this gives us a taste of the new album, then we’re in good hands. “The Moment” is everything we’ve been wanting in a song so far.

    David Guetta, AFROJACK- “Raving”

    Two titans in the industry: David Guetta and AFROJACK have united to release their highly anticipated new single, “Raving.” The song title is a little self-explanatory, but it makes you want to go rave. It’s fun, and specifically in time for BRAT Summer. We’re loving the hard house music lately, and this track is made by some of the best in the EDM industry.

    “Raving” is what we needed to close out the summer: an electric single that gets you moving. It’s a fun track that just keeps getting better as time goes on.

    Sonny Fodera, Jazzy, D.O.D- “Somedays” 

    Sonny Fodera has already made many hits, but this song proves he can do it time and time again. It’s no shock that his production is borderline seamless and his collaborative efforts are always a success. “Somedays” is no different. It’s fun-filled and captivating, replay worthy even.

    Alongside Jazzy and D.O.D, Sonny Fodera pairs vocal talent with bass-heavy beats. A summer anthem without a doubt, “Somedays” will be a great addition to any playlist.

    It’s been a great week for collabs between legendary Dutch producers. Hardwell and AFROJACK just dropped their third official collab, “Push It” featuring MERYLL. The duo debuted the track during Hardwell’s Tomorrowland set earlier this summer and it sure seems like it’s going to become a staple in both DJs’ sets.

    “Push It” is keeping with all of Hardwell’s previous recent releases, advancing his big room techno sound. The track opens with a psy-trance beat layered over the vocal “Push it, pull it, twist, I’ve got it.” After that it goes to a windy synth breakdown that is trademark AFROJACK. The synth lead starts mixing with the percussion before going into another massive drop combining the bassline and synth melody.

    “I’m excited to finally be releasing another song with Hardwell after all these years.” AFROJACK says. “The people loved it at Tomorrowland and I’m happy for people around the world to be able to hear it now.”

    “I’m excited we’re finally dropping this collaboration; it’s been a long time in the making.” Hardwell adds. “For years, AFROJACK and I kept bumping into each other and talking up the idea of getting back in the studio together, so I’m glad that time has now arrived and this new collab is getting its release date. We first premiered it at Tomorrowland in the summer, and I recently aired it on my relaunched radio show, Hardwell On Air; now I’m looking forward to including it in my sets in the coming years.”

    It’s been a week since Escape Halloween took over the NOS Events Center for its 12th edition, and like most things Insomniac, the festival just got bigger and better. Featuring mind-blowing production, sick attention-to-detail, immersive Halloween experiences, blistering sets, immaculate vibes, and plenty of space to move and groove to; Insomniac pulled out all the stops for the largest Halloween festival on the continent.

    It was our first time back at the NOS Events Center since last year’s Countdown and our first Escape since 2019! One of the things that definitely stood out is how wide open and easily accessible everything was. Insomniac has definitely taken steps to make it easier to access all of the vast NOS Events Center where their events take place. At no point at all did I deal with bottlenecks or crowd congestion.

    The other thing that, of course, stands out upon entering the Escape festival grounds is just how immersive it is. With the exception of EDC, (the flagship festival) Escape has without a doubt the highest production values, the most performers, the most Easter Eggs to explore for. Escape is simply massive, and, if you ask me, is the best of Insomniac’s Southern California festivals. It certainly didn’t hurt that the weather was absolutely perfect for the weekend too.

    I’m not wrong when I say that this was the biggest Escape to date, they actually added a fifth stage inside the Citrus building, Wicked Woods. Crazy Town, which ostensibly serves as Downtown Escape, is a perfect meeting spot. Its location is easily accessible from all stages, and its landmarks are unmistakable. The fire organ is a sight to behold and always has a performance popping off, it’s the perfect place to sit and take in the splendor of the festival grounds. The Crazy Town fountain is also a perfect spot to reunite with your crew and figure out the next move. Oh, and of course, they’re all great photo ops too.

    As far as the stages go, they were all top notch. The main stage is, of course, The Grimm, a massive cloaked skeleton with its two hands stretched out clutching two spherical stones. Again, outside of EDC, this has to be the best Insomniac stage around. The lasers got major reinforcements and the huge video panels lining the ceiling of the mega-structure helped to create an even more immersive experience. Even if you were seated on the fake grass or at the tables outside of the mega-structure, you still felt like you were immersed in the stage. Sound and video production were A+ this weekend.

    The second stage was Feeding Grounds, also inside a mega-structure. This stage’s theme was a massive spider web. White canvas adorned the ceiling of the mega structure and instead of a disco ball, there was a massive black widow spider hanging above the stage in its place. The third stage was Sanitarium, a slightly smaller mega-structure, its rectangular video panels would play macabre and disturbing images of a mad surgeon conducting unsound experiments.

    The stage that probably got the best treatment of all though was Sewer District, the Factory 93 stage. When I went to Escape in the past this was not a stage I gave much thought to. I figured let the techno snobs hang in the back. Well, techno has now permeated the mainstream and I was keen to check out a set at Sewer District. Insomniac fully leaned into shipping trailers and an underground warehouse type of vibe. The light panels were just right and the sound was pitch perfect. I talked to several headliners who said that Sewer District had some of the best sets of the weekend.

    Speaking of the sets, let me tell you about them. Every single DJ absolutely brought it this weekend. Everyone’s got to go a little bit deeper, a little bit darker, especially the closers, to match that Halloween vibe, and that’s exactly what we got. Friday night really didn’t get going until I watched AFROJACK’s set at the Grimm. The Dutch legend did not disappoint, dropping a massive set that ignited the crowd. This was the set that truly set the night off as AFROJACK took full advantage of the Grimm’s production capabilities.

    After that I caught a little hardstyle over at Sanitarium, then headed back to the Grimm for Above & Beyond. Much like AFROJACK’s set, the crowd packed in the stage to overflow capacity. Jono & Paavo threw down a captivating set that had the crowd enraptured. Above & Beyond always strives for “moments like these” and they certainly achieved it at Escape.

    After A&B, I headed over to Feeding Grounds, which was hosted by Bassrush for the night, to have my face just melted off. ATLiens were well into their set of wonky dubstep, rap mashups and trap beats. It’s always nice to see the different vibes at different stages, but aside from the Grimm, the Basscon stage was bringing better vibes than the Bassrush stage. Zomboy followed up ATLiens and also proceeded to ignite the crowd.

    I proceeded back over to the Grimm, but I made a quick stop at the new stage, Wicked Woods. I’m always a sucker for an indoor stage, and Insomniac made the most of the space they were given. Setting up a mini forest behind the DJ booth as well as a circular video board, Wicked Woods was a huge come up if you happened upon it. Not too crowded, but still stellar production. I watched a little bit of K?d’s Throwback Set and I wish I had caught more.

    Finally back to the Grimm, Kaskade closed the night with an incredible set that saw him lean into the REDUX sound and turn the Escape mainstage into an underground club. The lasers and stage production could not have been more on point.

    We got there nice and early on Sunday. As I mentioned before I started things out at Sewer District and caught Charles D. Despite the early time slot and smaller crowd, the vibes were on point for Sewer District. I was now prepared for techno on Halloween weekend. I flitted between stages and sets checking out TOBEHONEST at Sanitarium, Ship Wrek at the Grimm, who drew a massive and rowdy crowd for such an early time slot, and Rossy at Feeding Grounds, who killed it with her blend of bass house and trap.

    After that, it was back to the Grimm for Matroda’s massive house set. Along with the permeation of techno into the mainstream, the re-eruption of house music has to be noted too. My god, people absolutely love house music. I didn’t recognize a single song Matroda dropped, but it was still a dope set and the vibes were unmatched. Tchami came on next and dropped a set for the ages. Opening with the AC Slater x Chris Lorenzo (Fly With Us) track “Seismic”, Tchami’s mix of French house was absolutely perfect. The lasers and pyro also started taking over.

    DJ Snake took the stage next and turned the Grimm into an absolute trap house. The beats were coming hard and fast with DJ Snake, and the packed crowd was more than ready for all of his hits. “Southside”, “Trust Nobody”, “Lean On” and he even dropped Knock2’s “dashstar”. A memorable set indeed.

    Zedd was up next and he thrilled the crowd by opening with his “Where You Are” remix. The packed out crowd was chanting along with the lyrics. Zedd was also one of the few DJs to dress up for Halloween as he sported a Super Saiyan outfit (from Dragonball Z). Zedd dropped a masterful set consisting of his hits like “I Want You to Know” and “Stay the Night” on top of his energetic live edits and some EDM classics like Eric Prydz’s “Call on Me”.

    Finally, Armin van Buuren closed out the weekend. Armin perfectly blended trance and techno for the best Halloween set imaginable. Armin maintained his signature sound while seamlessly blending in some dark techno beats that were perfect for the spooky season.

    It was an absolute joy to be back at Escape after three full years away, the longest drought we’ve had between Insomniac festivals. The Pandemic denied headliners festivals in 2020. I didn’t get to Escape in 2021 because there was the Fall Edition of EDC a week before. I could have gone in 2022, but I didn’t. I’m elated to have made it back in 2023. Although no announcement has been made, I would expect Escape to return for its spookiest 13th edition next year.

    Ultra Miami has unveiled Phase 1 of its 2024 lineup, and it is absolutely stacked. Ultra mainstays like Hardwell, David Guetta, AFROJACK, Martin Garrix and Tiësto will be returning to Bayfront Park as per usual.

    Additionally, there will be huge sets from Eric Prydz and Calvin Harris, who is making his first Ultra appearance since 2013, as well as new sets from FISHER x Chris Lake’s “Under Construction” and a special live set from Svdden Death, Space Laces and Eptic as Masterhand.

    SLANDER, Sasha & John Digweed, Excision, Gryffin, Zeds Dead and more round out the Phase 1 lineup release. Get your tickets here, whether it’s your first Ultra or your twentieth, this year’s lineup is not to be slept on. Ultra continues to provide some of the best bang for your buck, and the setting in the heart of Downtown Miami cannot be emulated.

    What can you say about a 2x World No. 1 DJ, who has been leading the electronic dance world for over a decade since he was only 14, who has officially remixed tracks for huge names in the music industry like Rihanna and Calvin Harris, that hasn’t already been said? That’s the case with the legendary Hardwell, who at 25, is just getting started.

    As both a producer and DJ, Hardwell made his mark early on as a highly sought-after Dutch phenomenon who quickly won World’s No. 1 DJ in 2013, early on in his career. After remixing hit singles and sharing his own smash collabs with artists like Austin Mahone, Jay Sean, and Jason Derulo…you’d be surprised to learn what Hardwell has accomplished, accolades that take most artists multiple decades to be handed. But Hardwell is different.

    He’s collaborated with fellow DJ’s like Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Steve Aoki, Tiesto, and AfroJack. He’s performed at the biggest EDM festivals in the world like Ultra, Tomorrowland, Coachella, and EDC Las Vegas. And while he took a 3 and a half year hiatus from releasing music and hitting the stage, 2022 Ultra proved to be his comeback.

    Since then, fans have anxiously awaited Hardwell’s next move. Which has included his REBELS NEVER DIE era, remixing tracks by David Guetta and Benny Benassi, plus releasing original tracks of his own. You can check out REBELS NEVER DIE here:

    It’s been a crazy year for Hardwell, but it’s safe to say he’s back. Hardwell sat down with Popdust to talk about what we can expect next, and what we’ve missed since we last saw him!

    PD: You took a 3.5-year hiatus from music before returning to the stage for a surprise performance at Ultra last year…has your process of making music changed since then?

    H: Yes, but not so much in a technical approach but more, what’s the right word, holistic. So, the big change has been about time and ensuring I give myself enoughof it focus on being creative. Without the pressure to be at the next airport, meeting,or wherever needed. I know, it sounds so simple but when you’re flying between multiple cities each week it can be difficult to properly get your head into a space that inspires creativity. So, for me, since the time away from touring, my priority now is to maintain the right balance between being on the road and at home in my studio.

    PD: What have been your favorite songs to remix so far?

    H: I’ve always loved remixes. It’s a part of the dance scene which since the verybeginning I’ve been hooked on so when it comes to being a remixer on some else’smusic, it always excites me to see what new direction I can take the song in. I’vehad the honour to be invited to remix some incredible acts, who I respect, likeColdplay, Moby, The Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris and US. But honestly, the one that really stands out is my remix of ‘Ocarina of Time’s Gerudo Valley’ for The Legend of Zelda. I can still feel the young gamer inside me grinning so hard at that one, like “Yes, we did it!”

    PD: Are there any artists that inspire you or one’s you’d like to collaborate with in the future?

    H: Of course, acts like Dr Dre, The Prodigy, Pharrell Williams, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Eminem, and many others would be some others, are on my producer bucket list, but away from established acts, I’m actually really inspired by the artists coming through on my label Revealed Recordings. Seeing new artists like VINNE, Tim Hox developing in the studio, making music, and having that crazy hunger to succeed.Reminds me a lot of when I first got into it and it’s inspiring.

    PD: You’ve teased you have a new single collaboration coming up. Can you share any more details, whose it with and what’s the name of the song?

    H: Yeah, so the track is called ‘ANYBODY OUT THERE’ and it’s a vocal-driven anthem with Azteck and Alex Hepburn. I wanted to create a kind of hybrid song thatconnected with my current harder-edged style, but also leans into the vocal stuff Ilove in music. I needed something big that fits a Hardwell set and needed to find atrack that would have all the right emotions, the right chords, and the perfectbalance in arrangement to fit what I was after. So, this collaboration was focused on doing that and I’m so, so happy with the final outcome. I think the three of us crushed it.

    PD: You recently completed an exciting North American tour with a stop at The Brooklyn Mirage, and have performed at some of the world’s biggest events like Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, EDC, and sold-out Madison Square Garden…what’s your favorite part about performing your music live?

    H: It’s almost an indescribable feeling to be on stage. The connection with the crowd, playing music you love and sharing new/old tracks you’ve poured lots of time into creating to then have the crowd dance or sing them back to you. It’s such a surreal experience and such an amazing buzz to share it with the fans.

    PD: You closed your 2022 REBELS NEVER DIE era with a deluxe edition followed by several new singles in 2023 like remixing David Guetta’s version of Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction”, and a run of original singles like‘Take Me Away’, ‘Balança’, ‘Twisted’, and ‘Sloopkogel’. What is it like dropping all these projects over varying genres? Do you have a favorite right now?

    H: It’s exciting because its exactly what I wanted, which is to be completely free ofany pressure to make a certain type of sound. I want to just explore whatever stylefits me at the time, whether it’s techno, electro, trance, big room, or whatever. Ican’t say I have an out-and-out favourite, because every song is special in its ownway. But I’m super proud of my recent song ‘ACID’ with Maddix and Luciana, simplybecause I had the idea of making an acid song for so long, but I wanted to make itan acid crossover song. There’s a lot of acid underground songs but I needed an acid song that had the right balance of a techno song and an EDM song to work in a Hardwell show, and I wanted it to have a vocal, so it had more of a crossover appeal

    PD: What’s next for you this year? Any upcoming music or perhaps an album?

    H: There’s no new album planned. I said to myself right after REBELS NEVER DIE was completed, that I wanted to go and have some fun collaborating with otherartists I’d admire. The album was a big solo project, so it felt like a nice change todo a bunch of collaborations and originals. I’ve got a ton of new music coming up,like the next track ‘ANYBODY OUT THERE’ which I mentioned. So it’s definitely goingto be a busy year both in the studio and on the road with a summer full of festivalsplanned..

    Ultra Music Festival‘s grand plans are coming together in the Abu Dhabi region with an awe-inspiring lineup to match.

    The events powerhouse with homes on all six inhabited continents is going all-in this year, making a splash with the debut Ultra edition in the UAE capital. Touching down in the capital will be an entourage of electronic music greats, including Skrillex, Afrojack, Calvin Harris and ILLENIUM, among others.

    Ultra’s plans in the Middle East have been long in-the-making. The storied festival brand was slated to take over Abu Dhabi in early 2020, but with the onset of the pandemic, those plans didn’t come to fruition.
