  • My Friend Can Spend $150 Nordstrom—I Suggested These Expensive-Looking Items

My Friend Can Spend $150 Nordstrom—I Suggested These Expensive-Looking Items

    [ad_1]

My friend told me she has a $150 gift card to Nordstrom, but she hasn’t spent it because she doesn’t know what to get. She’s an intentional shopper, meaning she likes to plan out her purchases and typically buys high-quality pieces she knows she can get a lot of good wear out of. She’s also partial to the quiet luxury aesthetic, generally preferring pieces that are well-made and understated in design. While $150 is a considerable amount of money, given the fact that a pair of designer jeans typically goes for upwards of $200, finding items that fit her qualifications posed a bit of a challenge.

Nordstrom offers a wide array of brands and styles, so when shopping according to a specific budget and taste, it’s really about doing the work to find your needle in a haystack. Since my friend likes expensive-looking pieces, I took it upon myself to scour Nordstrom’s site to find the best selection of items that look like you paid a pretty penny, but in actuality, are all under $150 – in the name of friendship, of course. I even managed to find a couple of pieces from in-demand brands (I’m talking about you, rosette top from Reformation). However, there’s also a $59 Nordstrom-brand knit that if you told me was Vince, I’d believe you (truthfully, I can’t stop thinking about it).

If you’re like my friend and like luxury pieces, but not luxury prices, check out my shopping list, below. I’d bet your closet (and bank account) will be very pleased with my finds.

  • 39 Nordstrom Finds That Are Anti-Trend, Timeless, and Dripping in Wealth

39 Nordstrom Finds That Are Anti-Trend, Timeless, and Dripping in Wealth

    [ad_1]

“Timeless” and “forever wardrobe” are the phrases on every fashion person’s lips right now. No matter if you’re 23 or 63, I’m going to take a wild guess and say that a certain anti-trend, quiet-luxury aesthetic is probably also resonating with you at the moment. I think we’re all a bit trend-fatigued and looking for items that will not only look elegant and chic, but that will truly the stand the test of time.

Well, one everyone’s favorite go-to retailer Nordstrom is clearly taking notes on the growing interest in paring things back and has been acting accordingly. I searched all up and down the site and found a trove of items that were so chic, so luxurious, and so wealthy looking they shocked me to my very core. From the languid cream-toned trousers you’ll want to skip your jeans for to the striped knits that will make you look like you just spent time on a yacht, I’m uncovering the best classic Nordstrom shopping to buy now and wear forever.

  • These 28 Picks Give Designer Energy But Are a Fraction of the Cost

These 28 Picks Give Designer Energy But Are a Fraction of the Cost

    [ad_1]

If you’re someone who appreciates fashion (and, seeing as you’ve ended up here, I’d venture that you are), the likelihood that you have a running designer clothing wish list is fairly high. Personally, I’ve been pining for the mesh Alaïa Mary Janes since last season and after walking through The Row store this past weekend, I definitely wouldn’t mind if one of their sweaters ended up under my Christmas tree. But seeing as I don’t have the kind of expendable income it would take to buy whatever my expensive-leaning heart desires, I’ve gotten pretty good at finding those pieces that at least look like they cost more than they actually do.

The pricing behind designer clothes is based in large part on the quality of the item, so when looking for more affordable alternatives, paying attention to fabrics is key. I tend to stay away from anything that has the potential to pile or would make you think twice before getting close to an open flame. Silhouettes and fit are also important. Nine times out of 10, when I’m admiring an outfit on someone, it’s usually caught my eye because it looks like it was made for them. You want to be especially mindful of fit when considering trends like office-wear that really depend on the specificity of the hang and drape in order to not look, well, like you’re going to the office.

Shopping online makes it a little more difficult to discern these types of things, but seeing as I browse like it’s my job (it is) I’ve taken the liberty of picking some pieces that fit the above criteria. For all of my favorite designer dupes, keep scrolling, and rejoice in the fact that you’ll still be able to splurge on your favorite $7 matcha latte after filling up your shopping cart.

  • I Have a Large Friend Group, and We're All Into These Finds From Amazon and H&M

I Have a Large Friend Group, and We're All Into These Finds From Amazon and H&M

    [ad_1]

One of the best parts about working in fashion is seeing how many different ways a particular piece of clothing can be worn. Sure, it’s easy enough to incorporate elevated basics like jeans, t-shirts, and blazers into both the most minimalist and maximalist wardrobes. But, you know you’ve found something special when it’s nearly universally appealing without being, well, an essential.

Of course, as with any new garment, you’ll want to consider the cost-per-wear before splurging on a piece that may only be suitable for a season or two. This is why it’s always a treat when something affordable from H&M or Amazon catches our attention.

With that in mind, I asked a bunch of my friends with distinctly different personal styles (think: nothing but neutrals to tons of neon, or gender-neutral to super femme), to pick out a few pieces they would be interested in adding to their winter wardrobes this year. Ranging from holiday party pieces to leisurely lounge sets, embellished outerwear, and cozy cardigans, there truly is something for everyone on this list of fabulous finds.

Keep scrolling to shop my friend group’s affordable finds from Amazon and H&M, and see how these pieces fit into your closet this season.

  • My Mom and I Can Both Wear These Basics, and They're All Under $150

My Mom and I Can Both Wear These Basics, and They're All Under $150

    [ad_1]

While my mom and I don’t share clothes anymore, when it comes to basics, we definitely still could. Our general style sensibilities are pretty different (she’s more daring than I am), but for everyday, we both love classic, yet comfortable staple pieces we can build upon. For whatever reason, whenever I shop I almost always clock items my mom might like. Since she knows this, she’ll often task me with finding her whatever new basic she needs. A few weeks ago, I actually uncovered the elusive white t-shirt she’d been after (oversized, yet polished) that could have easily had a place in my closet as well.

I may be in my thirties, but finding pieces that work for both of us brings me a lot of satisfaction. Maybe it’s the high school girl in me who used to love our shopping trips together coming out. Who knows! The reason doesn’t matter so much, I suppose. But, since I’d make this list anyway, I decided to share the best basics I’ve come across that work for both me and my mom in case you can relate to anything I’ve just said. All from Nordstrom, for under $150 to boot!

The Best Under-$150 Fashion Items on the Internet Right Now

Is it just me, or does it feel like there’s a lot of good shopping right now? It’s probably just because I’m doing my best to become a minimalist who actually has little gaps between the coat hangers in my closet, which obviously means that everywhere I turn there’s something I could absolutely buy.

It feels like we’re all trying to shop more mindfully, whether that means buying fewer things or simply spending less. If you happen to be on the hunt for some great fashion without a price tag that makes you gulp, then this is your safe zone. Everything here is $150 or under, and extremely chic.

  • Suki Waterhouse Wore Trendy $115 Flats With Glowing Reviews on Amazon

Suki Waterhouse Wore Trendy $115 Flats With Glowing Reviews on Amazon

    [ad_1]

Suki Waterhouse likely has access to any designer shoes she wants, but the fact that she recently opted for a pair of $115 shoes instead makes me think that they must be quite special. With the blazer and black maxi skirt she wore recently, Waterhouse opted to finish her look off with one of the biggest flat shoe trends of the year: Mary Janes.

There are so many Mary Janes on the market to choose from, but not all are created equal. That said, Waterhouse and Amazon shoppers seem to agree that Franco Sarto made an excellent pair, as they have nearly a five-star rating. The Franco Sarto shoes in question are the faux patent leather (another major trend) Tinsley Mary Jane flats, and she went with the black pair.

A little birdie told me that the shoes keep selling out, and I believe them because there’s currently only one color left in stock on Nordstrom (where the reviews are also glowing). The good news is that I found stock on Amazon (where they’re even on sale in certain colors) and elsewhere, so scroll on to order a pair if you’re so inclined. Studies show that they’ll sell out again.

  • The $15 Trend That In-the-Know Fashion People Are Wearing With *Everything*

The $15 Trend That In-the-Know Fashion People Are Wearing With *Everything*

    [ad_1]

If you’re simultaneously obsessed with the latest micro-trends and too intimidated to test them out, you’ve come to the right place. This is Ways to Wear, a monthly series where editor Eliza Huber offers a dose of outfit inspiration focused on current trends that feel intriguing yet overwhelming at the same time. Consider it your guide to actually wearing the coolest items of the moment, no matter how puzzling they might appear at first.

Even the chicest outfits can fall flat sometimes if they’re missing a certain level of oomf. Everything about them can be perfect, from the fit to the color combinations and so on, but without that finishing touch that ties it all together, the sartorial spark will never light. And right now, the easiest and most cost-effective way to fire up your outfits is with hosiery. Yes, I said hosiery, and no, I don’t mean pantyhose.

From red and burgundy tights to knee-high sheer socks, the world of hosiery is one full of possibilities. And of all the leg décor that’s trending among fashion people this year, the style making the most significant impact by far is fishnets. Once considered tacky and more than a touch costumey, in recent seasons, the latticed tights have received a dressed-up makeover, with brands such as Gucci, Tory Burch, and Victoria Beckham pairing them with elegant dresses and separates, adding a touch of intrigue to every combination. They balance out any outfit, ensuring that no ensemble ever risks being called boring.

I'm Convinced That This $20 H&M Accessory Is the Secret to Looking Rich

    [ad_1]

There are certain items that fashion girls just know will take an outfit from 0 to 100, or better yet, from $50 to $5000. But unlike some people, I don’t like to gatekeep. In fact, I’m so gabby, I can hardly keep anything in for long. And of all the outfit-making pieces that myself and the rest of this industry swear by to elevate any and every ensemble, none do the job as well as a good belt—period.

Because of my sharing nature, this story was my first stop after I stumbled across what I can only describe as the chicest and most designer-looking belt on the market, an item that just so happens to cost only $20 and be in stock in every size. Courtesy of H&M, the belt in question is crafted out of a subtle croc-effect black faux leather with gold, Western-style hardware. And while it only just dropped, given how nothing lives on the shelves at H&M for long—trust me, I’ve been burned by the retailer’s speedy sell outs more than once—it is essential that you and I both act fast if scoring the below waist embellisher is a priority, which it certainly should be. Scroll down to snag one before it’s too late.

  • Restock Alert: Our Editor-in-Chief's Crazy Popular Affordable Nordstrom Dress

Restock Alert: Our Editor-in-Chief's Crazy Popular Affordable Nordstrom Dress

    [ad_1]

Earlier this year, our Editor in Chief Kat Collings did something that she does from time to time and visited her local Nordstrom to try on dozens of items (in this instance, basics), documenting them along the way. Among her favorite pieces was a stunning yet simple mixed-media dress (meaning that the bodice and skirt are made of different materials). The top of the dress was a fitted tank while the bottom had a poplin-like full skirt. It was as elegant as it gets. And it wasn’t just Kat who was taken by the dress—readers of the story ordered it in droves. At the time, the dress came in navy and white and was part of Nordstrom’s in-house line Treasure & Bond. Naturally, the dress swiftly sold out.

The good news is that Kat’s eagle eye just noticed that the dress has been restocked under Nordstrom’s eponymous in-house brand, and in the most versatile color there is: black. Kat is again singing the praises of the dress, telling me “If you ever wish you have more “throw on and go” dresses, let me introduce you to your next smart purchase. I tried on a very similar version of this dress last summer and was instantly impressed with how the silhouette is flattering and easy to wear. Wear it with a sweater now, and come warm weather, you’ll be thanking yourself for your new favorite year-round dress.” I don’t know about you but I’m sold. Read on to shop the $119 dress (which has pockets!) before it sells out again, along with a few more of Nordstrom’s most elegant dresses right now.

As you probably know, Reformation isn’t one of those sites that has a sale section year-round. Ref’s epic fall sale is officially here, and lots of dresses and tops, sweaters, outerwear, shoes, and much more are up to 40% off. The only problem is that there’s a lot to choose from. (Disclaimer: All of it is final sale, so choose wisely.) That’s where I come in.
