I Said I Wouldn't Shop This Month, But Holy Sh*t, These H&M Finds Are Too Good

I’ll be the first to admit that I shop a lot. Since shopping is a big part of my job as a digital fashion editor, there’s no way that my credit card can make it through the end of the month unscathed, but this month I aimed to do just that. Yep, I put myself on a shopping ban with the hopes of getting my closet in order and maybe avoiding some of the judgmental looks my doorman gives me when I come down to pick up yet another package.

I’m sorry that what I’m about to say might earn me a lot of side-eye from both you and him: I’m on the verge of breaking my own rule because of H&M’s too-good-to-skip selection right now. I tried my hardest—I really did—but one look at the cool, affordable finds it’s dishing out right now was all it took to break me. 17 Under-$130 Madewell New Arrivals I'm Adding to My Spring Shopping List Stat

January isn’t exactly the most exciting time of year on the calendar, which is why I always find myself in the mood to shop during this long, dreary month. Since it is deep winter, many brands are still embracing the cozy winter après-ski aesthetic as far as their inventory is concerned, but Madewell is ready to dip a toe into spring. This week, I discovered that it has tons of new arrivals, many of them spring leaning and under $130.

Among the excellent new arrivals are fresh denim, versatile tops, cute Mary Janes, an affordable everyday bag, and much more. I compiled my favorites to save you some time, and some of them are even on sale. As a reminder, Madewell stuff can sell out quite fast, so you’d be wise to not sleep on these finds if you like them as much as I do.

5 Colors to Tap Into If You Want to Look Richer in 2024

I’m what you might call a bona fide neutral lover. Although I am mesmerized by bold colors on the runway, sometimes I find it hard to pull off in real life, especially in a city like New York, where black is the everyday go-to. But this spring 2024 season, I spotted quite a few color trends that I can pull off to make myself feel pulled together and super-rich at the same time.

Thankfully, for the minimalist lover in me, some of my favorite hues (and silhouettes!) are already trending on the runway. From charcoal gray power suits at Ferragamo to the perfect shade of navy at Miu Miu to the mood-boosting Barbie pinks at Prada, today’s color trends are instant hits in my book. Below are the pieces I’ll be wearing to add a luxe take to my closet.

Fashion People Love This “If You Know, You Know” Affordable Shoe Brand

As a trend-forward editor, I go through shoes much faster than I care to admit. With every new season and the thousands of steps I put in daily while living in New York City, it’s important that my shoes are cute and comfortable, but they also need to be affordable enough to switch out when they start to wear out. • This Abercrombie Trench Is $160, TikTok Famous, and Giving Serious The Row Vibes

This Abercrombie Trench Is $160, TikTok Famous, and Giving Serious The Row Vibes

When the style, called the Avio Trench Coat, finally dropped six months later, I immediately added it to all of my usual wish lists and trackers so that I’d be the first to know if it ever made it to sale season. The coat costs $3450 full price, so even with a discount, I might not be able to swing it. That’s why I perked up when I spotted another gray trench in a slew of TikTok videos centered around new Abercrombie & Fitch items. I’ve never been very good at waiting, and my mind is so stuck on gray trench coats that I won’t be able to do anything at 100% until I’ve quelled these urges. Yes, I ordered the Abercrombie alt, and yes, you should do the exact same thing.

Though I haven’t received mine yet, TikTok is littered with enough positive reviews to put to rest any worries that it won’t hit the spot. “It’s giving Inspector Gadget chic,” said @alychapss. “Loving this trench coat,” another user, @otherangelawalters, wrote. Follow their lead by scrolling down and shopping the viral Abercrombie trench that’s $160 and giving serious The Row vibes.

  • 10 Splurges I Want to Make and the More Affordable Alts I Might Buy Instead

10 Splurges I Want to Make and the More Affordable Alts I Might Buy Instead

I know the year has only just begun, but boy, have I already racked up a healthy list of items I want to invest in. At the start of each year, I like to sit down and catalog all the major purchases I want to make from interior decor to beauty and wellness investments, travel plans, and yes, fashion items. I mostly do this so that when it comes time to celebrate a milestone or simply treat myself, it’s something I’ve already vetted. Even though we’re just nine days into 2024, my list of luxury fashion buys is taking shape. I’ve been eyeing every one of the below 10 buys for months (and in some cases, years), so I can say with certainty that they’re more than a passing whim.

But as much as I would love to hit order on all of them right this second, the reality is that my wallet and my taste are two different sizes. On the one hand, I should just wait and save up for what I really want, but on the other hand, the less-expensive alts I’ve uncovered are honestly just as good. Whether you’re shopping on a budget like me or are just curious which items are making my splurge list, continue for the 10 fashion investments I’m itching to make and several more budget-friendly options that achieve the same look.

    I Spent New Year's Day at Nordstrom—28 Half-Yearly Sale Items I Couldn't Resist

A new year almost always comes with resolutions. This year, the tradition resulted in my promising to cut down on shopping and pick back up my running habit. That’s how I found myself jogging along the west side of Central Park on New Year’s Day, only to somehow end up at Nordstrom‘s front door. While I should have held off and resisted the strong urge to step inside, I didn’t. Instead, I broke my resolution one day in and went off at 10 in the morning into the Half-Yearly Sale section. Surprise, surprise.

From elegant and affordable outerwear that I’m prepared to replace all of my expensive designer coats with to ultra-luxe footwear and accessories from the likes of Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, and Tory Burch that are shockingly marked down, the 28 Half-Yearly Sale items I discovered during my two-hour jaunt around Nordstrom’s NYC flagship are nothing if not impressive. • 32 Perfect Zara Finds That Could Easily Pass as Designer

32 Perfect Zara Finds That Could Easily Pass as Designer

If my (ahem, weekly) shopping-spree lineup were able to consistently resemble that of a Paris Fashion Week calendar, I’ll be first to admit it probably would. However, I tend to err on the side of the much more affordable when I’m online shopping. That’s not to say I don’t often get my hands on plenty of styles that are so polished and stylish they almost look like designer items. In fact, I just about always do (as a fashion editor, you pick up on just what details to look for), and among all the affordable shopping destinations at my finger tips, I find it’s most usually the case when I’m shopping at Zara.

Particularly during the winter, Zara is no stranger to tapping into those ultra-chic styles that feel like something from the runway. Think asymmetric tailoring or structured blazers, sweaters that look unfathomably soft for the price, and a selection of genuine leather boots. I kid you not, you could pull images from the website currently and plaster them in a magazine spread, and I’d believe you if you told me they were by a designer brand. Don’t believe me? I’ve rounded up 32 of the very best styles available right now below for proof. From one fashion person to another, there’s nothing better than scoring a stunner that looks more expensive than it really is.

  • Sofia Richie Wore the $98 Jeans That Fashion Girls Know Are Better Than Designer

Sofia Richie Wore the $98 Jeans That Fashion Girls Know Are Better Than Designer

Ask any true fashion girl for a list of their most prized sartorial possessions and nine times out of ten, one item on said list will be a pair of perfect 501 Levi’s jeans. Maybe they were scored at a flea market in Paris or an IYKYK online vintage shop, or perhaps, they were bought new and personally worn in until they were stretched and softened to perfection. No matter where they were sourced or what form they were in when they were purchased, Levi’s will always become a cherished and frequently worn wardrobe item, more so even than any pair of expensive, designer jeans.

For proof, see Sofia Richie Grainge‘s latest denim-clad outfit, which she posted to her Instagram on New Year’s Eve. The newlywed who’s recent wedding looks were all custom Chanel could have any pair of jeans she wanted, and yet, she chose ones that cost just $98. That’s the power that Levi’s 501 jeans hold over the fashion crowd. We’re all smitten (and not fighting it either). With her oversize pair of light-wash 501s, Richie Grainge added a white Khaite tee and Bottega Veneta’s celeb-favorite Andiamo bag in a soft shade of butter yellow.

Below, see what all the hype’s about by shopping some of the best, most lauded Levi’s available today. Or if you’re already a loyal fan, double up on your favorite pairs. After all, there’s no such thing as too much denim, especially when Levi’s jeans are involved.

  • The Most Stylish Celebs Can Have Anything But Chose These Affordable Items

The Most Stylish Celebs Can Have Anything But Chose These Affordable Items

While a celebrity’s style often feels out of reach due to their designer wardrobe, there are select moments when stars choose stylish yet affordable items. This may come as a surprise, as celebrities are known for sporting the most exclusive pieces on the market. However, like the rest of us, It girls aren’t immune to a good deal, and these items are proof that their taste doesn’t always come with a hefty price tag. Runway royalty like Kaia Gerber and up-and-coming superstars like Rachel Zegler have recently been spotted in the chicest items that currently retail for under $200.

Brands we know and love, like Madewell, J.Crew, and Steve Madden, have been seen on these A-listers. Read on to shop the celebrity-approved items along with pieces to complete the look.

  • These Nordstrom, Zara, and H&M Items Look Designer (Without the Price Tag)

These Nordstrom, Zara, and H&M Items Look Designer (Without the Price Tag)

There once was a time when differentiating between expensive pieces and affordable ones could be done in seconds, no matter how trained in fashion a person was. The dramatically opposing fabrics, cuts, and construction gave everything away. But today, that’s not exactly the case. Brands are savvier than ever, making it easy to be tricked and, in turn, to trick others with $20 pieces that look and feel like they cost $200 or even $2000. (I won’t tell if you won’t.) Therefore, looking like someone with a closet full of designer items no longer comes with a steep price tag.

I’ve done the research and crunched the numbers, and by my calculations, the perfect budget for a designer-esque wardrobe is $150. And no, I’m not pulling one on you. To prove it, I went ahead and rounded up 35 under-$150 pieces from H&M, Zara, and Nordstrom that even the most discerning fashion critics would assume were from the designer floor. Scroll down for the receipts.
