  • Akshay Kumar teared up after Samrat Prithviraj’s box office letdown, reveals director Chandraprakash Dwivedi

Akshay Kumar teared up after Samrat Prithviraj’s box office letdown, reveals director Chandraprakash Dwivedi

    [ad_1]

In 2022, Akshay Kumar stepped into the titular role for YRF’s “Samrat Prithviraj,” directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, with hopes of reigniting audience interest post-pandemic. However, the film turned out to be a setback. Reflecting on this two years later, the director opened up about the movie’s colossal failure. Dwivedi shared how he had raised concerns with producer Aditya Chopra during production but lacked sufficient influence to alter the course. Additionally, he revealed that Akshay Kumar was visibly moved, tearing up in response to the film’s disappointing outcome.

Tears welled in Akshay Kumar’s eyes over Samrat Prithviraj’s box office failure

During a conversation with Mukesh Khanna on his YouTube channel Bheeshm International, Chandraprakash Dwivedi emphasized the crucial lesson learned from the setback of Samrat Prithviraj. He and Akshay Kumar acknowledged the significance of refraining from distorting historical facts. Dwivedi shared that even after the film’s letdown, he reminded the Mission Raniganj actor of his status as a national icon in the eyes of the country.

Relaying the film’s criticism, Dwivedi noticed Akshay’s emotional reaction, tears welling up in his eyes. Despite being a successful actor, he welcomed Dwivedi’s face-to-face critique. The director not only expressed his thoughts verbally but also put them in writing via email. Surprisingly, this open communication did not strain their relationship, and they maintained a tension-free rapport.

Dwivedi also acknowledged that even before the movie hit the screens, audiences were quick to dissect and critique various elements. The uproar included objections to Akshay’s portrayal, spotlighting the age disparity with Manushi Chillar and the cinematic liberties taken with historical accuracy. The absence of a genuine mustache and the perceived divergence in physique from the iconic Prithviraj raised eyebrows. In a candid moment, the director admitted that, looking back, most of these objections turned out to be on point.

He didn’t hold back in acknowledging the team’s lapse in meeting their responsibilities towards the audience. He shed light on the intricate web of roles and responsibilities within the film, modestly singling himself out as the weak link. With a touch of humility, he emphasized that had every team member lived up to their duties, the questions and criticisms wouldn’t have surfaced, addressing the collective missteps on multiple creative fronts.

Aditya Chopra ignored the suggestions made by the director

The director then discussed the active involvement of producer Aditya Chopra in the films he produces. However, when it came to their collaboration on a historical film about Prithviraj, their visions were starkly different. The director emphasized the fortune of having a producer like Aditya Chopra, acknowledging him as a well-organized individual committed to seeing projects through, yet having his distinct creative vision.

According to Dwivedi, Chopra is not merely a financier but also a creative force with specific ideas that should have been addressed from the project’s inception. Dwivedi highlighted the divergence in their perspectives on historical storytelling, asserting that Chopra’s and his own ideas on the subject were fundamentally disparate. Despite expressing objections throughout the process, Dwivedi proceeded with the film.

Dwivedi shared an incident where someone commented on the lead actor’s attire resembling clothing from Manyavar, and he conveyed this feedback to Chopra. During the production, YRF held high expectations for the film, anticipating its success. Unexpectedly, the director revealed, no one foresaw the ultimate fate the film would meet.

“Adi told him, ‘He is a townie, he knows all these things, so just listen to him.’ So, Shah Rukh wore that costume and I thought I had found my calling,” Karan recalled.

  • Aditya Chopra will not merge his Dhoom Universe with the Spy Universe

Aditya Chopra will not merge his Dhoom Universe with the Spy Universe

    [ad_1]

The Dhoom franchise from director Aditya Chopra won’t be combined with his Spy world, which also includes the Tiger franchise, War, and Pathaan. There have been rumours circulating since Monday that Aditya Chopra may be fusing the spy realm with his Dhoom universe.

“Dhoom franchise and Spy Universe are now two of the biggest IPs in the history of Indian cinema and Aditya Chopra, who owns both of them, will never merge the two because he wants to grow them separately,” said a source. ” Spy Universe is a world of super spies and Dhoom is the world of anti-establishment anti-heroes.”

The source proceeded: “They can’t come together. He will protect the sanctity of these two universes and grow them separately to make them even bigger IP’s in the years to come. So, no you won’t see any characters from these Universes to overlap in either franchises. Story wise also it doesn’t make sense at all. So, all this talk is completely baseless that Jai Dixit will be seen in the Spy Universe. No one from Dhoom will be seen in the Spy Universe and vice versa.”

  • Shah Rukh Khan secures twelfth blockbuster with Pathaan; Directors that delivered big at box office with SRK

Shah Rukh Khan secures twelfth blockbuster with Pathaan; Directors that delivered big at box office with SRK

    [ad_1]

Shah Rukh Khan, With Abbas-Mustan, Had His Career’s First Blockbuster

Shah Rukh Khan’s first certified blockbuster was Baazigar, a film directed by Abbas-Mustan. SRK played an anti-hero role in the film, a role which most lead actors did not wish to play as it would create an image that is contrary to their star image. SRK’s breakthrough role in the film was lauded and it convinced actors from various movie industries in India to take up such a role. They collaborated again on Baadshah, a film that continues to be watched massively on television. The film was an average grosser at the time of its release.

Shah Rukh Khan And Yash Chopra Collaborated On Two Big Blockbusters

Darr came less than a couple of months after Baazigar. This Yash Chopra directorial, co-starring Sunny Deol and Juhi Chawla, opened to a bumper response across the country and emerged as the second blockbuster for Shah Rukh Khan. It was a rare phenomenon where the audience rooted for the anti-hero played by SRK and not the hero role that was essayed by Sunny Deol. Darr continues to be the most watched thriller genre film in Indian theatres, since 1990. Darr is not the only blockbuster that Shah Rukh Khan has delivered with Yash Chopra. He also played an instrumental role in the blockbuster success of Dil To Pagal Hai. The film ran to packed houses for the first three weeks and the film went on to become the highest grossing Indian film of 1997, on a worldwide basis. The songs of the film have transcended time and they still continue to woo many listeners. Apart from the two blockbusters, the duo have collaborated on a couple of other memorable films, namely Veer Zaara and Jab Tak Hai Jaan, both of which were very successful films.

SRK And Rakesh Roshan Have Had Memorable Theatrical Outings

Shah Rukh Khan has collaborated with Rakesh Roshan on numerous occasions. King Uncle, where SRK played an extended cameo, was apparently one of the first films that the actor signed. The film didn’t succeed but it led to them working again. Karan Arjun, co-starring Salman Khan, went on to become one of the biggest hits that the country had ever seen, then. The incarnation saga opened to packed houses and went on to become the second highest grossing Indian film of all time, then, only behind Hum Aapke Hai Koun. It was the second highest grossing film of 1995, only behind another Shah Rukh Khan starrer, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. SRK and Rakesh Roshan collaborated on Koyla as well and that film took a historic start at the box office. The word of mouth of the film wasn’t good and the film ended up as an average fare.

Shah Rukh Khan And Aditya Chopra Have A 100 Percent Blockbuster Ratio Together

Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Chopra have had the best track-record together with a 100 percent blockbuster ratio. They collaborated of three films, namely Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Mohabbatein and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which was the highest grossing Indian film of 1995, is now an evergreen classic that has been playing in cinema halls for over 27 years. Mohabbatein was the first film where Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan shared screenspace. The film emerged as the highest grossing Indian film of 2000 at the worldwide box office and won the box office clash in front of a high octane action drama, Mission Kashmir, spearheaded by Hrithik Roshan. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi released at a time when the country was just trying to heal itself after the horrors of the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. The film emerged a blockbuster despite negative critical reviews and lack of promotion. It was the all time second highest grosser, only behind Ghajini.

Shah Rukh Khan And Karan Johar Have Been Instrumental In Giving India Its Biggest Blockbusters

SRK and Karan Johar have collaborated to make many memorable films. The duo share an impeccable cent percent success ratio. Karan’s debut directorial is also his career’s biggest hit. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was a historic blockbuster at the time of its release. The film emerged as the highest grossing Indian film of 1998, despite a direct clash with Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. It marked the fourth blockbuster collaboration of SRK and Kajol, a pair that has never given an unsuccessful film together. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham again was a film that created history. The film went on to become the highest grossing Indian film of all time at the global box office. This family drama is still a favourite among most Non Resident Indians. The other films that SRK-Karan have collaborated on are Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and My Name Is Khan, both of which have some or the other record to their name.

The Shah Rukh Khan – Farah Khan Combination Warrants Another Film

Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan are again a combination that is still to fail. Their second collaborative venture, which also was a blockbuster, was Om Shanti Om. It emerged as the highest grossing Indian film of 2007. The film further cemented Shah Rukh Khan as the biggest draw in the country, then. The duo also made Main Hoon Na and Happy New Year. Both films secured the biggest opening day of all time, at the time of their respective releases. There have been talks about them working together on a film in the commercial space.

Shah Rukh Khan and Rohit Shetty Collaborated On What Became India’s Biggest Film, Then

Chennai Express, directed by Rohit Shetty, marked the first mutual outing of the actor and director. The film broke all records and was adjudged as the highest grossing Indian film of all time, then. It is the still the biggest hit for Rohit Shetty, while it is now Shah Rukh Khan’s eighth biggest hit in terms of ticket receipts.

The Success Of Pathaan Ensures Many More Future Collaborations Of Shah Rukh Khan And Siddharth Anand

Pathaan is now the the talk of the town. The film has broken many box office records and it is still going strong to break more. This Shah Rukh Khan and Siddharth Anand collaboration is the first of many, as there are ambitious plans to make a whole universe out of all the spy characters in Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe. Pathaan is currently the highest grossing Hindi origin film of all time and it is steadily moving towards becoming the highest grossing Indian film in the Hindi version.

  • EXCLUSIVE: How did Shah Rukh Khan react when he was approached for Pathaan? Siddharth Anand spills the tea

EXCLUSIVE: How did Shah Rukh Khan react when he was approached for Pathaan? Siddharth Anand spills the tea

    [ad_1]

Pathaan, the fourth installment of Yash Raj Film’s spy universe, paved the way for Shah Rukh Khan‘s glorious comeback to the leading roles after a long hiatus of over 4 years. The Siddharth Anand directorial, which features King Khan in the titular role, has now emerged as one of the most successful films produced by Bollywood in recent times. While Pathaan is being hailed for literally ending Bollywood’s bad spell, director Siddharth Anand narrated how Shah Rukh Khan came on board for the film, in an EXCLUSIVE chat with Pinkvilla.

How did Shah Rukh Khan react when he was approached for Pathaan?

As reported earlier, director Siddharth always wanted to work with Shah Rukh Khan, that too in an out-and-out action film. The director had the title Pathaan in his mind for a long time and developed the plot for the film a few years back. He narrated the idea to filmmaker Aditya Chopra, who instantly liked it and decided to include it in his spy universe. However, both Anand and Chopra were unsure if Shah Rukh Khan is ready for a comeback.

Later, Aditya Chopra took up the responsibility of narrating the subject to SRK and decided to know if he is ready first, in one of their casual meetings. “So, Adi went to him and met him, because they are very close friends. He just went to suss it out – what Shah Rukh Khan’s headspace is. Not to really offer the film – but just to meet him and chat with him. And he just realized that energy he gave Adi was that he is open to it,” recalled director Siddharth Anand.

“So Adi narrated to him the idea of the film. And Shah Rukh Khan instantly said ‘Yes, I’m on’. And I remember, I was out with some friends and Adi called me and said ‘I’ve just left him and he is doing the film’. I’m like – What – I started shaking and was like, he said Yes? Then Adi said, we are doing it immediately after War and I just couldn’t believe it. I was with some friends, and I told them ‘Can you image? Shah Rukh Khan is doing my film’. I can’t forget that moment, I can’t forget that location, I can’t forget the visuals when Adi called me and said that he is doing the film,” the director concluded.
