Paris Hilton, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody,Mandy Moore, Joshua Jackson, and more lost their homes during the fires. More than half of the structural damages occurred in Pacific Palisades where the wildfires began on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, burned for three weeks, and devastated the affluent community.
In the year since the fires, the residents of Los Angeles – both celebrity and not – have worked to rebuild what was lost. Here’s a look at the lives of the celebrities whose homes were destroyed in the fires and how they’ve persevered.
Paris is an LA icon. Last year, she was left “heartbroken” when she watched her $8.4 million Malibu mansion “burn to the ground on live TV. To Instagram, Paris wrote: “I’m standing here in what used to be our home, and the heartbreak is truly indescribable. When I first saw the news, I was in complete shock—I couldn’t process it. But now, standing here and seeing it with my own eyes, it feels like my heart has shattered into a million pieces.”
Paris and her husband Carter Reum were raising their two kids, Phoenix and London, in the Malibu home. Phoenix even took his first steps there. After the fires, Paris pledged $150,000 for the GoFundMe Wildfire Relief Fund, and helped raise $800k for efforts.
Since their loss, the family has recovered. The reality TV star purchased a 12-bedroom, 20-bathroom estate in Beverly Hills, which was previously owned by Mark Wahlberg. Paris spent an astonishing $63.1 million for the mansion.
The 41-year-old actress lost her Altadena home in the LA fires. She lived there with her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, and their three children, August “Gus,”Oscar “Ozzie,” and Louise “Lou” – who was only a few months old at the time of the fire.
Mandy took to social media, writing: “We lost our garage and back house. Everyone we know lost everything. Every house on our street is gone. My in-laws. My brother and sister-in-law – 6 weeks from welcoming their first baby. Our best friends. Feeling weird survivor’s guilt.”
On Wednesday, January 7, she shared an update on her devastating loss, writing to her 5.4 million Instagram followers: “There is so much I could say but I’ll just leave it with this. I can’t believe it’s been a year. The trauma and grief is still so palpable. Our neighborhood. Our town. Our friends. Our sense of safety was compromised and it takes time to earn that back.”
Tonight, Mandy is participating in A Concert for Altadena, benefitting the Altadena Builds Back Foundation. Joining her is Brad Paisley, Brandon Flowers of The Killers, and John C. Reilly.
Top Gun: Maverick actor Miles Teller and his wife, Keleigh, lost their Pacific Palisades home worth $12.1 million. Keleigh shared a photo of their house on social media before it became encased by flames, expressing her gratitude for those who had helped.
“Snapped this driving out… To everyone reaching out I can’t thank you enough, your kind hearts have meant the world, and I’ll never forget them,” she wrote.
Keleigh, who married Miles in 2019, lost her wedding dress in the fires. But for Christmas, the 38-year-old Eternity actor surprised his wife with a remade version of the very special gown, designed by Monique Lhuillier.
Adam and Leighton lost their LA home in the fires. The famous couple bought the $6.5 million home in 2019, where they raised their daughter, Arlo, ten and their son, five. While Adam and Leighton have not shared publicly about their loss, Leighton has volunteered regularly with Feeding America, which is a key organization working to feed those impacted by the fires.
Both Adam and Leighton have had busy years since the fires – with Adam starring in Netflix’s Nobody Wants Thisand Leighton in HBO’s I Love LA. The couple attended the 2026 Critics Choice Awards on January 4, where Adam was nominated for Best Actor in a comedy series.
The Dawson’s Creek actor lost his home in Topanga Canyon to the fires, sharing in a statement: “First and most importantly, all the people closest to me affected by the fire are ok. My daughter, my family, my neighbors all made it out safely.”
Joshua lived there with his daughter, Juno Rose, five, who he shares with Jodie Turner-Smith. A few months later, he revealed to Extra TV that he was rebuilding his home, including a special rainbow-themed bedroom for Juno.
“It’s hard, and a lot of people are going through it. Everybody’s going through it in their own way, but for me, there was no question of rebuilding, and I wanna build a place for me and my daughter quick enough that it will still be her childhood home,” Joshua explained.
Netflix is bringing back one of its most popular shows for a third season, returning a hit romantic comedy series to fans.
What Netflix TV show is getting renewed for a Season 3?
Nobody Wants This, the series led by Kristen Bell and Adam Brody, is coming back for a third season. The new season of the series is set to premiere sometime in 2026, with news of the Season 3 renewal coming just a week after the second season of the show premiered on October 23, 2025, on Netflix.
Nobody Wants This’ second season, despite only being out for a short time, is already hugely popular on Netflix. According to the streamer, the show’s seconds season is number one in the Global English TV Top 10 for the second week in a row, and has garnered 18 million views through its first 11 days of being on the service.
In a quote on the show’s third season renewal, co-showrunners and executive producers Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan expressed their happiness about the renewal, and said they’re excited to get back to work.
“We are so grateful to Netflix and 20th for giving us another season of Nobody Wants this. This job is criminally fun. Working with the uniquely gifted Erin Foster, this unbelievable cast of talented, hilarious pros, amazing writers, and incredible crew has been a truly great experience. Go Dodgers!”
Nobody Wants This comes from creator Erin Foster, and stars Bell, Brody, Justine Lupe, Timothy Simons, and Jackie Tohn. The first season premiered in 2024 on Netflix.
“First comes love, then comes life. The last time we saw agnostic podcast host Joanne (Kristen Bell) and unconventional (hot) rabbi Noah (Adam Brody), their unmatched chemistry surprised everyone in their lives, including her sister Morgan (Justine Lupe), his brother Sasha (Timothy Simons) and sister-in-law Esther (Jackie Tohn), and even themselves,” reads the show’s synopsis for Season 2. “Their spark proved stronger than all of the obstacles trying to keep them apart. Now they’re back, and fully committed to merging their lives –– and loved ones — together. But their differences still exist and can’t be ignored. The challenge now is not just falling in love against all odds, but staying together in spite of them.”
Nobody Wants This is back, bringing with it many relationship-related debates as well as goals, along with its sun-bleached LA location and gorgeous cast. The first season was a 2024 hit amongst millennials in particular, as we watched Noughties TV stars Kristen Bell and Adam Brody play a fated couple from opposite sides of the tracks – namely the world of a rabbi and the life of an agnostic sex podcaster.
For those who didn’t immediately watch as soon as the new episodes dropped, the very beginning of the much-awaited second season sees protagonist couple Noah (Brody) and Joanne (Bell) throw a dinner party, with a mission of merging their friendship groups. It’s made obvious from the outset that this is a huge milestone in their relationship, in order to make it legit, built to last.
As she is honoured as a 2025 Glamour Woman of the Year in the UK and the US, the Snow White and Evita star sits down with her friend, former costar, and legendary actor Helen Mirren.
In the opening scene of the episode we see Joanne and her sister Morgan (Justine Lupe) discussing Joanne’s “perfect” new relationship on their podcast, with Morgan offering some more cynical analysis. “A relationship isn’t solid until you’re out of the honeymoon phase,” she says. “The real test is when you merge your lives and you blend your friends.”
In an interview with Nobody Wants This star Justine Lupe, we asked her about this storyline, specifically if merging friendship groups was a red, beige or green flag, and she referred to the concept as a “choose your own adventure” mission. “I understand people wanting to dip into their separate friendship groups, but I also think it’s great to combine and see how different people get along with different vibes of other people,” she added.
Introducing your partner to your friends is a long-held milestone for a serious relationship. Will they pass the friend test? Will they build their own bonds with your friend’s partners, leading to double date heaven? But, like anything that involves matchmaking and good chemistry, the success of this endeavour can definitely vary. The picture-perfect idea of your best pal having the exact same interests and taste in wine and food as your partner could happen, or it might not.
While watching this Nobody Wants Thisdinner party scene, the “merging friendship groups” scene felt to me like undue pressure. It made me uncomfortable. Not that it’s not a lovely and important thing to do for some couples, but that it’s seen as a pass or fail when it comes to whether your friendship groups mesh well. The question of Joanne’s conversion to Judaism has been put on ice (for now, but not for long), so the couple’s quest to build a serious relationship continues in the form of attempting to mix together their friends and family. Of course, this doesn’t go to plan. In fact, the dinner is derailed not by any of the invitees, but Joanne and Noah’s own lack of communication.
I felt like our connection was this cynicism we had. I always thought that was interesting—you create an alliance, whether it be with a best friend or a family member, that you have this viewpoint on something, but it’s not always forever. So Joanne and Morgan shared philosophies until Joanne kind of grew out of it, and it just felt really right that that would kind of piss Morgan off. When I paired off with my husband, Simon—
Sara: What is this “paired off”? I’ve never heard you use this term.
Erin: Really? [Shrugs] I don’t know. But when Simon and I got together, Sara was very supportive and connected to him, and we didn’t have that issue.
Sara: But in life it’s hard when you’re accustomed to a certain dynamic and that dynamic shifts. Like, Erin hasn’t been to my house in two years. Normally, she’d be done with work like, “I’m coming over.” She’ll cook me dinner, she’ll put my kids to bed. She’s literally not been in my house for a year and that’s an adjustment—
Erin: Because I had a baby.
You both have been creative partners for most of your adult lives, but do obstacles in your dynamic still arise?
Sara: There’s no push-and-pull power dynamic. We both have pretty clear lanes. There’s no part of me that wants to be a writer. Erin has such an innate talent that is so specific to her. I would say she has the most important comedic voice in TV right now. She can’t say that about herself, but I can and I’m so proud of her.
Erin: Yeah, but it’s taken many years for it to fall into this natural rhythm. There’s a lot that I’m not as passionate about, like the business side of things is not as exciting to me as the creative side, but you have to have both. And it’s hard for me to have a lot of different plates spinning. I get overwhelmed. I’m good at focusing on the thing in front of me, and I think Sara’s really great at reminding us to diversify and keep the train on the tracks. The writers room monopolizes a lot of my time, so I’m really unable to be in a ton of meetings and fittings for Favorite Daughter and even development stuff for other shows. So she’s really great about being able to lead the charge on that and be understanding when I have to be in the writers room.

As though to prove a point about Sex and the City’s long-lasting impact, Megan Thee Stallion recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to tell him, despite other things she had to promote, that she had only just started watching the show and couldn’t believe how long she had slept on it. It would seem that the creator of Nobody Wants This, Erin Foster, might have been banking on people (like Megan Thee Stallion) to continue sleeping on said show—otherwise why borrow so many tropes from it? Not least of which, of course, is that its female lead, Joanne (Kristen Bell), would have to convert to Judaism in order to be with Noah, a rabbi who she encounters at a dinner party hosted by her friend and “PR gal,” Ashely (Sherry Cola). Which is where the SATC comparisons already start to flicker in. Because while, sure, Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) didn’t have to convert to Judaism for Harry Goldenblatt (Evan Handler), it was an integral part of the storyline in terms of “making their relationship work” (in addition to Charlotte having to overcome how much less attractive Harry was than her).
But, obviously, Joanne’s character is much more in line with Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) “breed.” For, like Carrie, Joanne is something of a “sexual anthropologist,” using her dates as fodder for her podcast, called, naturally, Nobody Wants This (on a related note: to “update” Carrie’s column shtick for the present, she does get a podcast on the SATC “sequel series,” …And Just Like That). The difference between her and Carrie (apart from sartorial bombast) is that Joanne “co-researches” the dating scene with her sister and best friend, Morgan (Justine Lupe). It is Morgan who serves as the three-in-one sounding board—embodying the Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte characters all at the same time—for all of Joanne’s dating woes/horror stories. And this is something we’re given insight into from the moment the show starts and Morgan comes to collect Joanne from a bad date that the latter ditches out on because the guy keeps talking way too much about his grandma and the tragedy of losing her when he was twelve.
The shit-talking of the first scene segues into the podcasting (and continued shit-talking) of the second scene, wherein Morgan not only expositorily informs Joanne that they’ve recorded one hundred and nineteen episodes, but that, throughout each one, she has revealed the same thing over and over again: “When you find a nice, normal guy…you find fault with him.” Case in point: “Grandma Guy.” Morgan further proffers that maybe Joanne doesn’t even want to find a real relationship, a theory that of course has truth to it since, without “bad date inspiration,” she’ll end up like Carrie in the season five episode, “Unoriginal Sin,” lamenting, “I’m not getting laid. Therefore…I’m getting laid off” (though, ultimately, she wasn’t).
This “deliberately self-sabotaging” epiphany comes for both women. That’s right, even blind-to-everything Carrie is forced to have this epiphany about herself after a bad breakup (the first one, anyway) with Mr. Big (Chris Noth). The “breakthrough” occurs when her friends make her see a therapist named Dr. G (Anne Lange), who has another patient named Seth (Jon Bon Jovi) that Carrie keeps flirting with in the waiting room. It’s only after the two finally have sex that they each understand why there were attracted to one another. For Seth, it’s because he immediately loses interest in a woman after sleeping with her. For Carrie, the according revelation is, “I pick the wrong men.”
As for Joanne, she’s more open about the joy of picking the wrong men for the sake of “the story” a.k.a. her podcast, which has started to gain enough traction to become considered as worthy of being a corporate acquisition. This almost “willful” choosing of the wrong men is done in a similar vein as Carrie, who relies on not just her friends’ relationship horrors, but her own in order to come up with a weekly column called, what else, “Sex and the City.” It is in this headspace that Joanne gleefully accepts Ashley’s invite to a dinner party where all the male guests “sound terrible.” Including a rabbi named Noah Roklov (Adam Brody, perennially resurrected, if one will pardon the Christian allusion). Except that Noah turns out to be the man she’s instantly attracted to upon entering the space. Only she doesn’t know he’s the rabbi because he doesn’t come out and admit it, instead going along with her mistaken assumption that it’s another guy at the party with a beard.
When she does get the big unveiling of his identity, the reaction is that there is no romantic future whatsoever. But, of course, that’s what makes the allure all the more prominent. Which is how she ends up walking into his temple soon after (such Carrie behavior) to exchange a “witty repartee” also in the style of “flirtatious” Carrie when Noah jokingly asks, “Are you a member of this temple?” She replies, “You guys do memberships? Is there a gym?” Ho-ho-ho-har-har-har.
In “Either Aura,” the third episode, Joanne spends the majority of it dissecting a text and the lack of response it gets the way Carrie would spend entire brunches and lunches dissecting something Big or [insert name of some other asshole here] did and what it “means.” Then there is the kind of spiraling she does in the season three episode, “Drama Queens,” wherein it takes Aidan (John Corbett) ignoring her for her to suddenly comprehend that losing his interest would be the worst thing ever. That’s the same kind of spiral Joanne is on throughout “Either Aura,” waiting for Noah to respond to a text that her sister tells her was “weird” (the text being: “I think I’m pregnant” in regard to how good their first kiss was).
At first, Noah’s availability is almost a detriment to his “desirability.” Because, as Carrie says in “Drama Queens,” “I’m used to the hunt and this is just…effortless. It’s freakin’ me out.” Charlotte eventually has to interject, “I don’t believe this! Now we’re dumping guys for being too available!” The prospect of Noah not being available (you know, for other reasons besides being a rabbi) is equally as terrifying to Joanne, prompting her to wonder (or being unable to “help but wonder”) if she’s a “good” person. As in, morally decent enough for a rabbi.
All of this making “her stomach flip all on her own” (another Carrie quote from “Drama Queens”) plays into Carrie’s pondering for her column: “When things come too easy, we’re suspect. Do they have to get complicated before we believe they’re for real? We’re raised to believe that course of true love never runs smoothly. There always have to be obstacles in Act Two before you can live happily ever after in Act Three. But what happens when the obstacles aren’t there? Does that mean there’s something missing? Do we need drama to make a relationship work?”
If that’s genuinely the caveat, then Joanne and Noah are destined to be together (and predictably do end up that way for the season finale). Their density of “obstacles” are further compounded by Noah essentially acting ashamed to be with her in the fifth episode, “My Friend Joanne.” Needless to say, this smacks of the “Secret Sex” episode of SATC in season one. The allusion to it, whether “intentional” or not, is already made in the first episode of Nobody Wants This, when Morgan mentions a guy named Greg who wouldn’t be seen with Joanne in public. But this thread picks up again when Noah takes her to a Jewish youth camp in Ojai and suddenly acts the opposite of a loving boyfriend when he realizes his boss is going to be there and, thus, introduces Joanne to a colleague as a “friend.” It takes some of the teen girls at the camp to spell it out for her: he introduced her as his friend. Hence, they’re definitely not together as solidly as she thinks.
To be sure, as Noah tells his brother, Sasha (Timothy Simons), “I’m not ready to face the whole ‘I’m dating a shiksa’ thing” in public. In fact, he’s convinced he won’t have to because Rabbi Cohen (Stephen Tobolowsky) won’t be there…or so he thought. But when the big boss shows up, Noah fully fathoms just how much is at stake for him, career-wise, in dating someone as non-Jewish (read: totally white bread) as Joanne. Who also happens to be coming across as Carrie-level clingy in this episode, whining to Noah when he tells her they have to cancel their Carmel trip because of his unexpected work commitment, “What am I supposed to do? Just stay at home alone?” Yes, bitch, that’s exactly what you’re supposed to do. In addition, apparently, to being unavoidably disgusted when a man is too “nice.”
Or, in Noah’s instance, too “sniveling.” Specifically, to Joanne’s parents, who he meets in the sixth episode, titled “The Ick.” And, what do you know, it’s an episode that speaks exactly to what Sex and the City already did in season six with “The Ick Factor.” Centered on Carrie’s “steady” of the moment, Aleksandr Petrovsky (Mikhail Baryshnikov), being way too over the top—therefore, “icky”—with his romantic gestures, Carrie struggles vis-à-vis how to deal with someone so cringingly saccharine.
Much the same as Carrie, Joanne can’t “digest” a man who brings flowers “for respect” and says obsequious things that end up involving him doing a bad Italian accent (specifically, so he can utter the word “Prego”—as in the nasty sauce brand—when Morgan says she found an old Prego jar to put the flowers in). Morgan, attuned to her sister in ways that no one else is, clocks the look on Joanne’s face when taking in all of the icky things going on with Noah in this scenario. When Morgan calls her out about having the ick, Joanne tries to deny it—to which Morgan warns, “You can’t fight the ick, it’s like a Chinese finger trap: the harder you pull, the stronger it gets.”
But naturally, as it happened for Carrie and Aleksandr, Joanne is able to surmount her icky feelings thanks to being candid with the object of her ick about it so that said object can work to remedy being so “icky.” However, if Aleksandr’s eventual fate is something to go by, Noah isn’t totally out of the woods in terms of redeeming himself as Joanne’s “forever person” (besides, that wouldn’t make for “compelling television,” n’est-ce pas? Gotta leave viewers on their toes).
The grand denouement of Nobody Wants This is the bat mitzvah of Noah’s niece, Miriam (Shiloh Bearman), who grudgingly goes along with the Noah’s mom/her grandma Bina’s (Tovah Feldshuh), desired theme: “Miriam Takes a Bite Out of the Big Apple.” A more than slightly traitorous choice in L.A., but perhaps Bina is aware that the Jewish population in NY is larger, with L.A. coming in second in the U.S. after it for having largest population of Jewish people.
To the point of New York versus L.A., it must also be said that, as Sex and the City’s “fifth character” is New York, Los Angeles plays a key supporting character in Nobody Wants This (even if it additionally betrays L.A. by having what can be called a “Philip Roth book cover font” for its title card).
What’s more, much of Sex and the City was rooted in a “Jewish undertone” (apart from just Carrie bandying “keywords” like “mazel tov” so annoyingly) precisely because it was set in New York (see also: Charlotte’s wedding episode in season six, “The Catch”). Indeed, that was pretty much the extent of the “ethnic diversity” that the show “allowed” for. With Nobody Wants This, there’s about that same amount of “diversity” despite the narrative taking place in a city as racially varied as L.A. And yet, the show appears to count on the glamoring distractions of familiar storylines from Sex and the City—whether it relates to overbearing mothers, awkward situations with vibrators, emotionally distant men or fundamental incompatibility. And maybe part of that reliance stems from Foster underestimating just how many viewers can still cite Sex and the City episodes like scripture.
Adam Brody is making us swoon all over again, and this time, it’s because of his role in Netflix’s latest rom-com, Nobody Wants This. While we adored his quirky, loveable charm as Seth Cohen on The O.C. back in the early 2000s, Brody is proving that he’s still got that irresistible magic, and it’s hitting us right in the feels.
For anyone who religiously watched The O.C., Seth Cohen was the ultimate “cool nerd” before it became a thing. Brody’s portrayal of the sarcastic, comic book-loving, slightly awkward but endearing teenager made him an instant fan favourite. It didn’t take long before Seth Cohen (and by extension, Adam Brody) became a heartthrob for an entire generation. He struck a balance between humour, vulnerability, and that charming awkwardness we couldn’t help but love.
Let’s be honest, we all fell in love with Seth for his self-deprecating wit and his unrelenting (and adorable) crush on Summer Roberts. And although the show aired its final episode over 15 years ago, many of us still remember watching Brody’s signature blend of geeky and romantic antics unfold. He made awkward cool, and suddenly, there was nothing better than being a little different.
Adam Brody’s Timeless Charm
Now, years later, Adam Brody is capturing our hearts once again in Nobody Wants This. Starring opposite Kristen Bell, Brody plays Noah, a charming and slightly unconventional rabbi. The show explores an unexpected romance between Noah and Joanne (Bell), a sex podcaster, and their on-screen chemistry is off the charts. Fans of Brody are loving the blend of wit, heart, and humour he brings to this role. And honestly, it’s giving us all the nostalgia feels.
His character in Nobody Wants This feels like a grown-up Seth Cohen—wise, still a little quirky, and irresistibly charming. Brody’s ability to tap into that loveable persona without feeling dated has won over a new generation of viewers. In saying that, fans from his The O.C. days are getting a beautiful reminder of why they fell in love with him in the first place.
How Fans Are Reacting
one day you’re 14 daydreaming about Adam Brody’s fictional character and next thing you know you’re 34 daydreaming about Adam Brody’s fictional character#NobodyWantsThispic.twitter.com/mjCVC5WucW
Beyond just the irresistible rom-com glow of Nobody Wants This, Adam Brody’s return to the spotlight feels like a nostalgic trip for longtime fans, while also giving a whole new generation a chance to fall for him. It’s almost like Seth Cohen grew up, found his place in the world, and is still navigating love in the funniest, most relatable ways. Brody taps into that signature charm without feeling like he’s stuck in the past.
Since The O.C., Brody’s career has been filled with interesting and diverse roles, from indie films to blockbuster hits. He’s never been one to stay pigeonholed in one type of character, and that versatility is part of why audiences continue to gravitate towards him. From his scene-stealing roles in Jennifer’s Body and Ready or Not to his turn in Shazam!, Brody’s range proves that he’s always been more than just Seth Cohen. Still, there’s something special about seeing him return to the genre that first made him a household name — the romantic comedy.
So, whether you’re a longtime fan who remembers rushing home after school to catch The O.C. or you’re just now discovering Adam Brody through Netflix’s Nobody Wants This, one thing is clear: everybody is falling in love with Adam Brody all over again. From his witty banter to his loveable quirks, Brody has reminded us that sometimes, the actors who first captured our hearts still have the power to do it all over again. And honestly? We’re more than OK with that.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” could have looked a lot different if things had gone another direction when it came to casting.
Recently, Adam Brody sat down for a chat with the “Just for Variety” podcast, and opened up about the time he read for the role of Peter Quill — a.k.a. Star-Lord — in James Gunn’s cosmic adventure installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I wanted that one,” Brody said of the role, which eventually went to Chris Pratt, whom the “O.C.” alum admitted was a “better fit” for the part, ultimately.
“He is bigger, stronger, but tonally, I really dug it,” Brody lamented.
Pratt starred as the space-faring smuggler and thief who stole fans’ hearts when the first film hit theaters in 2014.
He went on to reprise the role in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Avengers: End Game”, “Thor: Love and Thunder”, “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special”, and finally “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, which came out earlier this year.
Before Pratt was cast in the role — which he was offered a chance to read for but initially declined — several other actors, apart from Brody, were considered for the smart-talking, handsome, affable space pirate with a heart of gold.
Joel Edgerton, Jack Houston, Eddie Redmayne, Michael Rosenbaum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zachary Levi, Glenn Howerton, Jim Sturgess, John Gallagher Jr. and even Lee Pace — who was later cast as the film’s primary antagonist, Ronan the Accuser — all read for the role.
However, once Gunn and Pratt met face to face, the future was sealed.
“Shazam: Fury of Gods” is anticipated to overtake “Scream VI” and rule the box office this week, but the total gross won’t shatter any records.
Early estimates poise the DC superhero sequel to gross a moderately strong $35 million to $40 million from 4,000 North American theatres this weekend.
The prediction sets “Fury of Gods” to fall shorter than the opening numbers for the film’s original movie, 2019’s “Shazam”, which delivered a strong $53.5 million opening gross. “Shazam” went on to earn $140 million domestically and $366 million globally.
Both the films cost $100 million to produce, so only time will tell if the sequel will be successful enough to spin a pretty profit for the movie.
David F. Sandberg directs the film centering around Zachary Levi as Billy Baston, whose foster siblings and he transform into superheroes when they say “Shazam!” Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren co-star in the film.
The film begins playing across theatres in Canada on March 17.
It’s a match made in teen TV heaven. Leighton Meester, who played Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl, and Adam Brody, who played Seth Cohen on The O.C., were first linked back in 2011. And, in fact, kind of assumed she probably wasn’t for like the first handful of years that I didn’t know her, just because, I don’t know, Gossip Girl,” he said.
Later in the interview, Brody shared his admiration for his wife of seven years. “She’s literally like Joan of Arc. She is, like, the strongest, best person I know. She is my moral compass and North Star, and I just can’t say enough good things about her character. It’s crazy.”

The O.C. actor spoke about his new movie, The Kid Detective, and how having a daughter changed his perspective. “One of the things that’s been interesting and that I am happy to use and implement with my son now is all the female-centric stories, movies, and myths that I’ve seen now that I didn’t get to grow up with,” Brody said. “I am happy to have this whole other catalog of stories to show my son as well,” he added.
