RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — A squall line capable of producing gusty winds up to 60 mph is moving through Central North Carolina Friday morning ahead of a cold front.
The front will bring gusty rains, but sunshine is expected to return mid-morning as the system clears out.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for several counties, including Alamance, Chatham, Montgomery, Moore, Orange, Durham, and Randolph counties. All alerts have since expired.
Winds will remain strong throughout the day, with gusts of 30 to 40 mph possible. These winds could lead to isolated downed trees and spotty power outages.
Durham Police Department reported that just before 7 a.m., a tree fell on a Durham Public Schools bus, cracking the windshield, in the 200 block of Anderson Street. There were only three students on the bus, including the driver. There were no injuries.
Winds were strong Friday morning as a cold front moved through Central NC.
Chatham County dispatch confirmed with ABC11 that there are already several trees down across the county.
High temperatures — already in the low 60s early Friday morning – will drop into the 50s by midday and into the 30s and 40s by evening.
The weather improves behind the front, with clear skies and dry conditions expected for the rest of the weekend.
