HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Kristina Chambers, the woman convicted of hitting and killing a man who was on a first date, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Last Thursday, a jury found Kristina Chambers guilty of manslaughter. According to officials, in 2023, Chambers was accused of being drunk and speeding in her Porsche, ultimately hitting Joseph McMullins, who was leaving with a woman from Voodoo Donuts after their first date.

It happened at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on Westheimer near Waugh in the Montrose.

According to court records, Chambers’ blood alcohol content was four times the legal limit at the time of the crash.

The sentencing phase followed on Monday, Oct. 27, where 35-year-old Chambers learned how long she will spend in prison.

The crash was captured on surveillance cameras, shocking the public and playing a critical role in the trial, according to McMullin’s family attorney.

“It was an overwhelming amount of evidence that Ms. Chambers was drinking, high, being reckless, driving down an urban street,” said Rand Nolen, who is representing the McMullin family on a separate, civil case against Chambers.

During the trial, the defense argued that Chambers’ name-brand heels caused the crash, calling it an accident.

Prosecutors depicted Chambers as a wealthy woman who wanted to show off her new car to friends who were inside the vehicle at the time, before allegedly visiting several bars the night of the crash.

Chambers was facing anywhere from 2 to 20 years behind bars.
