  • With Davis Mills at helm again in place of CJ Stroud, Texans have chance to get back to .500

    [ad_1]

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Houston Texans backup quarterback Davis Mills will get his second consecutive start Sunday after the team ruled out starter CJ Stroud with a concussion.

Stroud is still recovering after a hard hit and slamming his head on the ground during the Texans’ loss to the Denver Broncos.

When asked by reporters on the concussion protocol, Head Coach DeMeco Ryans said that it’s a day-to-day process.

That means Mills will engineer the offense versus the Tennessee Titans, who were shut out by the Texans when the teams met earlier in the season.

The Texans enter this weekend’s contest 4-5, which means they have an opportunity to get back to .500, despite a slow start.

But as Ryans will tell you, the team isn’t worried about the standings.

“We want to win the football game. That’s the most important thing. It’s just, ‘Can we win a football game? What does that take?’ It takes guys having that will to go win, that determination, and go finish. Takes guys being locked in on their assignments, doing it to the best of their ability. Again, not blinking. Four quarters of disciplined football and finishing,” Ryans said.

Ryans also said he’s looking for Mills to help the team repeat their success found during a comeback win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last week.

“I thought he went out and did a nice job leading us to a victory last week,” Ryans said of Mills. “I’m looking for him to go out, execute the offense the proper way, get us in proper calls and just do his job to the best of his ability.”

Meanwhile, Stroud will not be the only starter who’s out.

Kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn and safety Jalen Pitre also won’t be on the field.

As always, join the “Countdown to Kickoff” team at 11 a.m. Sunday to preview the game and all things Texans.

    Kickoff is at noon.

  • Texans looking to get first-ever road win against Ravens as teams enter Week 5 with same record

    [ad_1]

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Houston Texans enter Week 5 with the same record as an opponent they haven’t been able to get past in more than a decade: the Baltimore Ravens.

Their last regular season matchup was forgettable for Texans’ fans, unless of course you’re a Beyoncé fan, so then the halftime show performed by the singer on Dec. 25, 2024, was a treat.

The rest – not so much – as the Ravens beat the Texans 31-2 at NRG Stadium.

The Ravens have also won the last five matchups versus the Texans, with Houston’s last win coming over Baltimore in 2014. The Texans beat the Ravens in that game, 25-13.

Can they finally snap the Ravens’ streak?

That’s the hot topic in this week’s “Countdown to Kickoff,” airing Sunday at 11 a.m. on ABC13.

The Texans will travel to Charm City and face the Ravens on their turf.

But as ESPN writes, this will not be the same Baltimore team the Texans faced last Christmas.

The Ravens have been decimated by injuries.

That includes to their quarterback Lamar Jackson, who the team ruled out on Friday after he suffered a hamstring injury the week before in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Still, the Ravens have a weapon in running back Derrick Henry, who has run for nearly 1,600 yards against Houston in his career with 13 rushing touchdowns.

On Sunday, the Texans are going to have to figure out how to stop him.

“You’ve got to get in front of him, man. You know how they say don’t get in front of a moving train? But you’ve got to get in front of that train before he gets going. Like I said, he’s a great player. Obviously, he’s a Hall of Fame – type player the numbers he’s put up in his career,” Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair told ABC13’s Greg Bailey.

If the Texans pull off a victory, it’ll be their first-ever road win against Baltimore.

    Kickoff is at noon.
