  • Here are PolitiFact’s top 10 fact-checks of 2025

    [ad_1]

Claims about deportations, the Department of Government Efficiency, and someone fainting in the White House were among the mistruths that kept PolitiFact busy in 2025 — and they featured in some of our most popular stories this year.

Here are our 10 most-read fact-checks, from a tenuous gang connection to fears over voter eligibility.

    10. President Donald Trump says Kilmar Abrego Garcia has “‘MS-13’ on his knuckles.”

President Donald Trump said Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a man the U.S. government deported to El Salvador in March, had MS-13 tattooed on his knuckles — illustrating a purported affiliation with the MS-13 gang founded by El Salvadoran immigrants.

Trump made the claim during an April interview, referring to an image he posted on Truth Social of a left hand bearing four tattoos. Each finger in the picture displayed a different image — a marijuana leaf, a smiley face with an X for eyes, a cross and a skull — and an M, an S, a 1 and a 3 above these images.

But we found that the M, S, 1 and 3 don’t appear in other photos of Abrego Garcia’s hand, including one that Salvadoran government officials took when Abrego Garcia met with Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., on April 17 in El Salvador. (Abrego Garcia is now back in the U.S awaiting a criminal trial.)

The tattoos also do not appear in an Abrego Garcia family photo immigration advocates shared. The photograph Trump shared appears to have been altered to include “MS-13” above the other symbols. And MS-13 experts told PolitiFact that none of those symbols are known signifiers of the gang.

We rated this claim Pants on Fire!

    9. Novo Nordisk’s Gordon Findlay didn’t faint Nov. 6, 2025, in the Oval Office. He wasn’t even there

Dave Ricks, chair and chief executive officer of pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly and Co., was speaking in the Oval Office on Nov. 6 when a man standing behind him fainted.

Multiple social media posts claimed the man who became ill was “Novo Nordisk Executive Gordon Findlay.” They included a post from X’s artificial intelligence-powered chatbot Grok.

But Gordon Findlay, a Novo Nordisk manager based in Switzerland, wasn’t at the White House that day.

The man who fainted doesn’t work for Novo Nordisk or Eli Lilly; he was an Eli Lilly GLP-1 patient and attended a drug pricing announcement at the White House as the company’s guest.

    We rated this claim False.

    8. Did Bill Clinton create a fast-track deportation process exempt from due process? No.

As the Trump administration drew criticism over aggressive deportations, some social media users pointed to a law enacted under former President Bill Clinton, a Democrat. The posts said an immigration law Clinton signed showed immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally are not entitled to due process.

The 1996 law established a fast-track deportation process called expedited removal that allows people to be deported without first going to immigration court. Although immigrants going through that process have fewer protections, they are not exempt from due process. People are screened, notified of deportation and can contest the deportation if they have a well-founded fear of persecution. Legal experts say there are no exceptions to due process rights, regardless of immigrants’ legal status or how they entered the country.

    We rated this claim False.

    7. Is it ‘official’ that Trump approved a $5,000 ‘DOGE dividend’ stimulus? No.

As the Department of Government Efficiency touted billions in canceled government contracts, rumors spread that the reclaimed money would wind up in taxpayers’ pockets.

A Feb. 23 Facebook post, for example, said Trump was going to sign an order giving some taxpayers a stimulus check for $5,000.

We found no White House announcements or news reports reflecting this.

James Fishback, CEO of the investment firm Azoria Partners, proposed giving American taxpayers a $5,000 “DOGE dividend” with money the Department of Government Efficiency aimed to save, and Trump mentioned the idea to reporters.

But DOGE didn’t cut the necessary $2 trillion from the federal government’s budget to make this proposed plan feasible.

    We rated this claim False.

    6. El gobernador de Texas Greg Abbott no dijo que deportaría a Dios si ‘fuera ilegal’

A Spanish-language TikTok video appeared to show a journalist reporting that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said he would have deported God if the higher power were in the U.S. illegally.

But the July video manipulated TelevisaUnivision journalist Enrique Acevedo’s voice to present the misleading news. PolitiFact en Español submitted the audio from the video to an AI detector, which said the audio was fake.

    We rated this claim False.

    5. X post exaggerates wealth of Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, Chuck Schumer and Elizabeth Warren

A Feb. 11 X post called out the significant wealth of prominent Democratic and Republican members of Congress. The account wrote about the supposed annual salaries and net worths of Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.; Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.; Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.; and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.

Members of Congress are required to file annual financial disclosure reports detailing their assets and liabilities. Lawmakers also publicly report their annual salaries. But the lawmakers’ net worths weren’t driven by their government salaries; instead, their wealth mostly came from investments, such as stocks and real estate.

PolitiFact analyzed these four congressional members’ 2023 financial disclosure reports — the most recent ones available at the time — and found that this post exaggerated their wealth.

We rated this claim Mostly False.

    4. Zelenskyy’s statement about Ukraine aid didn’t reveal money laundering operation

After Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his military had received only a portion of the U.S. aid earmarked for the country’s war against Russia, critics floated that the funding was misused through money laundering.

But Zelenskyy’s Feb. 1 statements aren’t proof of money laundering; they align with public data on the U.S. funding packages.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine had received about $75 billion in military assistance of the $175 billion the U.S. has dedicated to Ukraine aid. That was in line with what researchers monitoring funding to Ukraine observed at the time.

A large portion of the money stayed in the U.S. and a smaller portion went to other countries in the region.

    We rated these claims False.

    3. No, Trump didn’t post that the president should be impeached if the Dow drops 1,000 points

As Trump’s tariffs on Canada and Mexico took effect March 4, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by more than 1,300 points in two days.

Some X users — including former U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., — shared a screenshot of what looked like a 2012 X post from Trump.

The screenshot made it look like Trump wrote, “If the Dow drops 1,000 points in two days the President should be impeached immediately.”

But this was a fake post that had been circulating for at least six years. There’s no record of Trump making such a statement.

We rated this claim Pants on Fire!

    2. Trump had hand in temporary ceasefires around the world but evidence is scant he stopped ‘six wars’

Trump has repeatedly said he’s ended several wars, but there’s a lot of uncertainty around Trump’s role in these conflicts.

“I’ve stopped six wars — I’m averaging about a war a month,” Trump said July 28 in Scotland.

Experts said in August that although he deserves some credit for deals that eased various conflicts, some leaders dispute his role in such negotiations.

The U.S. was involved in a temporary peace deal between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda that experts said is significant albeit shaky, for example. But Trump also wrongly said he ended a conflict between Egypt and Ethiopia, and there’s little evidence he thwarted an escalation between Kosovo and Serbia.

We fact-checked other similar statements from the president this year, including one that he ended “seven unendable wars.”

We rated that and this claim Mostly False.

    1. SAVE Act would make it harder, not impossible, for married people to register to vote

Congressional Republicans want to pass a bill that would require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote. This worried voting rights advocates who say it would hinder registration among eligible citizens.

The SAVE Act, would require people registering to vote or updating their voter registrations to use certain identifying documents, including military IDs, enhanced IDs showing citizenship, birth certificates or passports to prove citizenship. The bill passed in the House in April and is awaiting debate in the Senate.

“If you are a woman that has changed your name from your birth certificate, let’s say through marriage and you took your husband’s name, you are no longer eligible to vote if this bill passes the Senate,” a Feb. 10 TikTok video said.

That’s not quite accurate. The bill would make voter registration more difficult for married people who change their last names, and anyone whose name does not match the name on a birth certificate. But it would not prohibit it outright.

We rated this claim Mostly False.

  • 10 Weirdest Infinite Craft Combinations That Left Me Speechless

10 Weirdest Infinite Craft Combinations That Left Me Speechless

    [ad_1]

Since its launch, Infinite Craft has taken the world by storm with the near-infinite amount of combinations you can make. With that, plenty of combinations that were beyond my wildest dreams were suddenly being generated before my eyes, so I figured it would be best to compile those that struck me the most.

    10. Radioactive Kanye West

“What was I doing combining Chernobyl and Kanye West?” you might ask. The answer isn’t quite as simple as the results, but it expanded my horizons and showed me that you can do quite a bit with only a little in Infinite Craft. Getting Kanye West was the hard part, mainly because I can’t remember how I got my way to Kardashian. However, getting the string of “Divorce, Husband and Marriage” meant I could pull the rapper from the weeds of wherever he hangs out nowadays.

Chernobyl wasn’t too difficult to get, especially after getting Kardashian, because I was able to get Kim Jong Un, and therefore Nuclear War shortly afterward. That led me to radiation, which I combined with Disaster, which I had from earlier experimenting, and it gave me the famous meltdown as a result. I didn’t intend to combine Radiation and Kanye West, but I was curious to see what the game would do if I placed him at the event scene and rolled the dice.

    9. Yakinstein

    infinite craft yakinstein

This is one of those combinations that I could see coming from a few different places. Vomit and Frankstein? Yakuza and Frankenstein? Nope, although getting Frankenyakuza was a pleasant surprise, I made my way here by combining Yak and Einstein. Not quite as discreet as the other options, but still one of those combos that caught me off-guard.

I found myself with Yak long before I even had Einstein, and I had tried plenty of combinations before finding one that stuck, and it just so happened that it stuck with Einstein. Something about it almost feels like an insult you could say to someone who’s acting a little too smart, but trying to explain where that came from might give them more reason to be a Yakinstein.

    8. Kim Jong-Kardashian

    infinite craft kim jong-kardashian

This was the result of a rather strange train of thought which also included Kim Jong-dead, which felt a little darker than I had anticipated. On a lighter note, I was trying to combine Kim Jong-Un and Kardashian to get at least one of the famous family members, but Infinite Craft had something a little bit different in mind.

This became a classic example of some of the dead ends you can find yourself in while playing Infinite Craft. Sometimes you can just combine various terms and see what they create, but every once in a while, it’ll just loop you through the same couple of terms. Instead of giving a bunch of diverse results, it might get confused and dial into a single thread, giving you results like Kim Jong-Kardashian.

    7. Super Hobbitman

    infinite craft super hobbitman

In a world with both Hobbits and heroes, it can be hard to determine who is the Superman of the Shire. Sometimes Infinite Craft will take a combination of the two terms you enter and give you the representation of what that combination would be – if you combine President and Wall, you’ll get Trump. However, other times it takes your input so literally that you get things like Super Hobbitman.

I wondered what would happen if I were combining different IPs like Assassin’s Creed and Attack on Titan, and I quickly learned that doing this would confuse Infinite Craft into just combining terms as though they belong together. Combining Superman and some of the X-Men proved to be a futile gesture until I also found my way to Super Phoenixman and had to simply call it quits.

    6. Zombie Barad-dur

    infinite craft zombie barad-dur

In a train of thought that had me wanting to know if the game knew where certain characters lived, I managed to create the Batcave by combining Batman and House, so when I tried to combine Sauron and House, I was already surprised to find that it gave me Barad-dur. Further experimentation led me to add House back into the mix and I got House of Barad-dur, and when I combined that with Zombie Davis (long story), I was met with Zombie Barad-dur.

This rabbit hole somehow managed to continue deeper, as I felt the urge to combine it with Yak, giving me the refined Yak-dur. Whether or not this is some alternate universe where Lord of the Rings was represented by wild oxen, it makes me want to combine Yak with every other option I’ve come across so far.

    5. Harry Potter and the Pie Terrorist

infinite craft harry potter and the pie terrorist

Sometimes Infinite Craft is pretty quick about either kicking two terms back at you or giving you a combination, but when I combined Harry Potter and Pie Terrorist, the game took a moment to process what it was about to do. I didn’t think it would put the two together, no more did I expect it to give me the next book in the franchise. It feels very much like something that would be a great time if you plugged it into Chat GPT.

This led me down a full train of thought, combining all of the terms I’ve got with Harry Potter to see what different film names I could make. Interestingly enough, you actually can’t make all that many, so it’s amazing that out of all the terms that worked, Pie Terrorist was the one. I can’t tell you just why I would be so interested in seeing this film, but I would be waiting in line just to see how it turned out.

    4. Zombama

    infinite craft zombama

This one is short, sweet, and to the point. As soon as you read it, there’s a clear understanding of what this result has to offer. Zombama is the setup and the punch line at the same time while raising questions in the back of your mind for later. Adding Zombie to other terms doesn’t always result in Zom- and the term, so the fact that Infinite Craft chooses to indulge in the former president makes for a fascinating thought experiment.

I managed to get Zombie Lincoln, Zombie Terrorist, and Zombie Truck, but the game seems to be pretty fair between combining the words and keeping them separate. I created Zombillionaire alongside Zombama, but then I figured that I could get away with stretching a bit more and also created Zombama Truck for yet another first discovery.

    3. Frankenkim 8

    infinite craft frankenkim 8

When it comes to the results that you can get in Infinite Craft, sometimes it’s a bit more on the nonsensical side of things than reasonable. Frankenkim is the perfect example of this, and after having found a bunch of different devices like iPhones, I was ready to go crazy seeing what I could get. Turns out, if you combine Frankenstein and Kim before adding Windows 8, you’ll be met with a string of characters that represents the very essence of those terms.

I don’t know what else I must’ve been expecting, but I figured that the game would’ve just kicked the terms back at me and not given a result before it responded to such arbitrary input. It’s things like this that make you wonder the exact extent of the game, and just what makes it behave the way it does. How much of the game is generated automatically and how much is hand-written seems to get fuzzy when you’re getting this far into the weeds.

    2. Chuckledore

    infinite craft chuckledore

Chuckledore is funny for more reasons than one. Firstly, it rolls off the tongue pleasantly and at first, could sound like it means a lot of different things. Then, when you think a little more about it, you realize that it’s from combining Chuckle and Dumbledore…Or is it? Without having come across the term Chuckle, I had to settle for the next best thing – Chuckmon.

Chuckmon was a product of my curiosity running rampant and turned out to be the love child of Pokemon and the one and only Chuck Norris. I didn’t even get a chance to try combining Dumbledore with Chuck Norris before I used Chuckmon instead, and the result was just as incredible as what happened when I combined the two.

    1. God

    infinite craft god

Frankly, while I had a feeling that this would be an option to make in Infinite Craft, I never knew how I could create God. As it turns out, it wasn’t anything like combining Cosmic and Man or anything you would expect. Rather, you can create God by combining Chuck Norris and Anime Hitler. Read that again. Now, I finally see the league that this game is playing in. To be fair, it seems like Chuck Norris is the fastest route to God in the game because you can use him to make God with other terms, so once you’ve got him you should be golden.

Having recently made Pokemon as well as Chuck Norris, I had to combine the two to give myself Chuckmon, and with having then created God (no, not Taylor Swift), I combined those two and found myself with Jesus himself. Just these two terms alone can be combined for plenty of other rabbit holes like Adam, Eve and other biblical figures, and you’ll find shocking results that just might leave you speechless as well.

  • Crews make progress on 110 Fwy bridge demolition work. Here are the closures you need to know about

Crews make progress on 110 Fwy bridge demolition work. Here are the closures you need to know about

    [ad_1]

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Crews are making progress as they work to demolish a bridge near downtown Los Angeles, but major closures on the 110 Freeway are still expected this weekend.

Closures in both directions are planned from the 10 Freeway to Exposition Boulevard. It’s all to demolish the 21st Street pedestrian bridge that’s no longer in use.

The video featured in the media player above is the ABC7 Los Angeles 24/7 streaming channel

According to an update posted by the California Department of Transportation on Saturday, the first section of the bridge has already been demolished.

    110 Freeway closure timing

From 11 p.m. Saturday through 8 a.m. Sunday, the entire southbound 110 Freeway will be shut down between the 10 Freeway and Exposition Boulevard, and the entire northbound 110 Freeway will be closed between Adams and Washington boulevards.

Motorists using the northbound Express Lanes will have to exit early. Southbound Express Lanes will be accessible via the 28th Street on-ramp, the 39th Street on-ramp or any other entry on the southbound freeway starting at Florence Avenue.

The southbound off-ramp at Adams Boulevard will be closed throughout the weekend, reopening at roughly 8 p.m. Sunday, according to Caltrans.

    110 Freeway closure detours

During the full freeway closure, southbound motorists will be diverted at the 10 Freeway interchange, reentering the freeway at either Exposition or Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards.

Northbound motorists will be forced off the freeway at Adams, reentered at Washington. Northbound motorists can access the 10 Freeway using Hoover Street.

“We encourage everyone coming to downtown L.A. this weekend to use public transit, plan ahead for delays and use alternate routes, or simply just avoid the area,” said John Yang with Caltrans.

For more information on the 110 Freeway closure, visit Caltrans’ website.
