Swalwell launches website for CA governor run

[ad_1]

(KRON) — U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (D-Livermore) has formally announced he is running for California governor with the launch of a new campaign website.

This comes after growing speculation that the Bay Area Democrat was eying a run for the governor’s office.

The congressman has been serving in the U.S. House since 2013. He has been a high-profile critic of President Donald Trump, taking a leading role in Trump’s second impeachment trial in 2021. He also ran unsuccessfully for president back in 2020.

“I’m running for Governor because prices are too high and people are scared,” said Congressman Swalwell on his site. “California’s next governor has two jobs. One, keep the worst president in history out of our homes, out of our streets, and out of our lives…The second job of Governor is to bring a new California. It’s great that we can say we are the fourth largest economy in the world. But what does that mean if you work your a*s off and don’t have a stake in it? Nothing.”

Rep. Swalwell joins an already crowded and competitive race for the governor’s seat, including former California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, former Congresswoman Katie Porter, and State Superintendent Tony Thurmond.

We’ll have more on this developing story.
