SUV flies over pool, crashes through home and injures 2 inside, Florida cops say

Two women became car crash victims while indoors when a vehicle went airborne, sailed over a swimming pool, then “fully entered” a home, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Four people in all were hospitalized, including the driver, troopers said.

The crash happened around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, when a 46-year-old woman suffered a medical emergency while driving a Hyundai Santa Fe in Holiday, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

“The vehicle accelerated and entered the property of 3226 Bahia Drive, colliding with a chain link fence, a wood fence and a swimming pool at the residence in successive order,” investigators said. “Upon impact with the edge of the pool, the vehicle became airborne and struck the east side of the home. The vehicle fully entered the home and injured two Holiday women, aged 40 and 42 years, who were inside the residence.”

A series of photos shared by state troopers show the SUV entered the home via the backyard, then knocked down interior walls and drove over furniture.

The two women in the home suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital . The driver and a 9-year-old boy in her vehicle had minor injuries and also were taken to a hospital, officials said.

Identities of the people involved were not released, and investigators did not say if there were charges in the crash.

Holiday is in Pasco County, about a 30-mile drive northwest from Tampa.
