A drunk driver was arrested after authorities say he crashed his pickup truck into a Fort Worth fire engine early Sunday, authorities said..

Fort Worth Fire Department Engines 5 and 14 responded to a single vehicle accident about 3:30 a.m., at the U.S. 287 interchange southeast of downtown, Fire Department officials said in a social media post.

The driver of Engine 14 parked the engine at a 45-degree angle “to protect the scene downstream from the flow of traffic,” according to the Facebook post. Moments after the last firefighter stepped off Engine 14, a northbound pickup truck collided with the fire truck, officials said.

The two occupants of the truck that hit Engine 14 were trapped and firefighters on the scene extricated them, officials said. After being removed from the vehicle, they were taken to a local hospital.

The driver who hit the fire truck, Zachary Carlisle, 24, is facing a charge of intoxication assault with a vehicle, according to jail records.

No firefighters were injured, officials said.

Investigators believe Carlisle was intoxicated, and his blood sample was collected for testing, according to the police report.
