Suspect involved in 2024 Springfield police shooting arrested on mulitiple guns and drugs trafficking charges

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A man connected to the shooting of a Springfield officer last year was arrested on Wednesday for multiple firearm charges and trafficking drugs.

The Chicopee Police Department states that its narcotics Unit, along with the FBI Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force (WMGTF), the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit, and the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU), investigated the distribution of illegal narcotics from 248 Nonotuck Avenue in Chicopee.

The target of the investigation was Alberto Torres, who had been released on probation following his involvement in, and arrest for, the 2024 shooting of a Springfield Police officer.

Chicopee Police Narcotics Detectives assigned to WMGTF applied for and were granted a search warrant for 248 Nonotuck Avenue in Chicopee. On Wednesday, Alberto Torres was arrested for the following:

  • Trafficking a class B substance over 100 grams
  • 7 counts- Possession of a large capacity feeding device
  • 2 counts- Possession of a large capacity firearm
  • 2 counts- Possession of ammunition without an FID
  • 2 counts- Improper storage of a large capacity firearm
  • 2 counts- Possession of a large capacity firearm during a felony
  • Unlicensed possession of an assault weapon
