Suspect driver charged in connection of hit-and-run school bus crash in Johnston County

A Johnston County school bus coming from Four Oaks Middle School was involved in a crash Friday afternoon.

At approximately 3:42 p.m., the State Highway Patrol responded to a crash on Webb Mill Rd at Crocker Ln involving a Nissan Altima and a school bus.

A Nissan Altima heading north on Crocker Ln tried to turn left onto Webb Mill Rd but didn’t yield correctly and hit a school bus going east on Webb Mill Rd.

A Johnston County school bus has been involved in a crash Friday afternoon according to the Highway Patrol. 

The Nissan flipped over, and the bus veered off the road to the right, hit a ditch, and ended up in someone’s yard.

The Nissan driver ditched the car and ran into the woods on foot.

There were thirteen kids on the bus, eight of whom were hurt but not seriously and taken to nearby hospitals.

Police have arrested and charged the Nissan driver, identified as 30-year-old Trevor Elijah Jordan Grice of Smithfield.

He has been charged with the following:

  • Felony hit and run
  • No liability insurance
  • Expired registration
  • Drive while license revoked
  • Display fictitious registration
  • Expired inspection
  • Unsafe movement

Sky 5 captured the scene with over a dozen emergency vehicles and police on site.

Families were able to pick up students at Four Oaks Middle School.

The incident is still under investigation.
