Sunday Brunch: Cebu Chicago brings Filipino cuisine to the Lake View neighborhood

[ad_1]

Cebu Chicago, which closed in December after operating for four years in Wicker Park, has opened anew in the Lake View neighborhood.

Cebu, now located at 3120 North Lincoln Avenue, is a family-run Filipino restaurant that features Filipino breakfast dishes and pastries. But it will also be opening for dinner next month.

Brothers and chefs Melvan and Martin Tan, who co-own Cebu with fellow brother Marlon Tan, joined WGN’s Sean Lewis on the Weekend Morning News Sunday Brunch to show the restaurant’s take on chilaquiles — which are a well-known Sunday Brunch favorite.

Cebu’s version of chilauiles, the Tan brothers say, is a mash-up of Filipino and Mexican cuisine.

Another Cebu specialty is ube pastries, ube being a purple yam that originated in the Philippines. And Cebu’s main specialty dish in the Cebu Lichon, a slow-roasted Duroc pork belly marinated in a secret blend of herbs, spices and aromatics.

Check out the attached video for the full Sunday Brunch.
