Fans yearning for more from the Upside Down will get to see the making of the final season in the new documentary.
WASHINGTON — Netflix is not done with Hawkins and the Upside Down.
Days after “Stranger Things” wrapped its final season, Netflix announced a new documentary on the making of the final season will premiere on Jan. 12. According to the streaming platform, “One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5” will give fans an inside look at the work behind the final installment of the series.
“One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5 is a sweeping behind-the-scenes chronicle that follows the cast, creators, and crew as they bring the final season to life — and say goodbye to the show that changed them forever,” Netflix said in the Monday announcement.
Netflix also dropped a trailer for the documentary, including shots of the final table read with the cast and moments at the wrap party. Additionally, it revealed that there was a debate about Eleven’s fate in the finale, which divided fans.
“Growing up in Durham, North Carolina, we dreamed of becoming filmmakers — but Hollywood felt impossibly far away. Everything changed when we watched the behind-the-scenes documentaries for ‘The Lord of the Rings’ on-the-ground films that showed the real nuts and bolts of how a massive production actually gets made,” the Duffer Brothers said in a statement. “We saw how stressed Peter Jackson was and thought: yep, that’s the dream. With the decline of physical media, that kind of behind-the-scenes storytelling has largely disappeared.”
“We wanted to bring it back. One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things Season 5 — beautifully captured and directed by Martina Radwan — is our attempt to do just that. If you love Stranger Things, or if you’re simply curious how a major Hollywood production comes to life, this one’s for you,” the “Stranger Things” creators said.

“One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5” will be available on Netflix on Jan. 12 at 3 a.m. ET.
The documentary comes just days after the sci-fi drama ended. Season 5 of “Stranger Things” premiered in three installments, beginning on Nov. 26. Fans got the second batch of episodes on Christmas Day, and the finale dropped on New Year’s Eve.
