DENVER (KDVR) — The Stone Canyon Fire burning near Lyons is now 90% contained, and evacuees are good to return to their homes.
The fire in Boulder County near Lyons began on Tuesday, and surrounding neighborhoods were evacuated. The blaze grew over 1,300 acres and destroyed two structures by Tuesday night. On Wednesday, firefighters found one person’s remains in one of the residences.
Firefighters have been gaining more control of the fire since Wednesday, with a few evacuations being lifted since then. Saturday, the Boulder Office of Disaster Management announced that the fire is 90% contained and all evacuations and road closures have been lifted.
Residents are good to return, but there will still be smoke in the area.
“Firefighting resources will be in the area overnight as they continue to mop up and monitor the fire, so please use caution around firefighting equipment,” BODM said in the announcement.
The office said some homes in the Mossrock Drive and Moss Rock Ct. area may be without power.
As of Wednesday, the fire has destroyed five residences and burned 1,553 acres.
