Stockton 99 Speedway owner Tony Noceti and his wife, Rowena, were involved in a crash Sunday night in foggy conditions, family members say.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A beloved Stockton couple is in critical condition after a crash over the weekend.
Stockton 99 Speedway owner Tony Noceti and his wife, Rowena, were involved in a crash Sunday night in foggy conditions, according to family. Both are reportedly in the hospital; speedway events have been canceled as relatives say they are focusing on the couple’s long road to recovery.
A man, 72, was driving a red Ford Mustang just after 8 p.m. east on Highway 88, east of Village Drive, when he tried to unsafely pass the vehicle in front of him, per California Highway Patrol. He allegedly collided head-on with a white Ram traveling west, driven by a 59-year-old woman.
“The driver of the Ford Mustang sustained major life-threatening injuries, while the driver and passenger of the Ram sustained major injuries,” CHP’s Stockton office wrote in a news release.
Everyone hurt was taken to the hospital for treatment.
It is unclear if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash on the part of the Ford driver, officers said.
Noceti is a known businessman who runs Stockton 99 Speedway and is also in charge of the San Joaquin Asparagus Festival.
