LA PORTE, Ind. — A stepfather in Northwest Indiana was strangled by his stepson and died Sunday night, authorities allege.
La Porte officers responded at around 8:50 p.m. Sunday to a residence in the 1400 block of Jefferson Avenue.
At the scene, officers located Aaron Stingley, 58, who was unconscious. He was transported to Northwest Health La Porte where he was pronounced dead.
Police discovered that his stepson, Breon Ware, allegedly strangled him during an altercation that evening.
Police allege a shotgun, possessed during the altercation, was recovered at the scene.
Stingley’s cause of death was ruled asphyxiation.
Ware was charged with murder and serious violent felon in possession of a firearm.
