State Invokes Conflagration Act For Flat Fire In Jefferson County – KXL

[ad_1]

CULVER, Ore. – The Oregon State Fire Marshal has mobilized three structural task forces and a Red Incident Management Team in response to the Flat Fire burning west of Culver in Jefferson County.

The fire sparked Thursday and quickly spread, prompting Level 1, 2, and 3 evacuation notices from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Fueled by gusty winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures, the fire intensified overnight as local and regional crews worked to slow its progress.

With triple-digit temperatures and red flag conditions expected across Oregon through the weekend, officials are urging caution.

A Central Oregon Fire Management Services Type 3 team assumed command of the fire Thursday night. On Friday morning, Gov. Tina Kotek authorized the Emergency Conflagration Act, allowing state resources to be deployed. Structural task forces have since been sent from Lane, Marion, and Washington counties.
