FAIRFIELD – Interstate 80 was closed Friday evening in Fairfield as authorities worked to arrest a possibly armed suspect, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Both directions of the freeway were shut down at the Green Valley Road-Interstate 680 interchange.
“We are actively working to resolve this incident and will reopen lanes as soon as possible,” the CHP Solano area office said in a social media post.
Westbound lanes of I-80, along with the northbound I-680 transition to eastbound and westbound I-80, reopened around 6:45 p.m., the CHP said. Eastbound lanes remained closed.
The standoff on the freeway followed a report of a shooting near Windsor around 11 a.m., NBC Bay Area reported. A woman’s SUV was hit by a bullet, but she was not injured.
The suspect sped away from officers after being found at a shopping center in Rohnert Park, but eventually hit a spike strip and came to a stop on I-80, the news station reported.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
