SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – If you need a way to get your kids excited about fresh fruits and greens, why not let them make a smoothie by pedaling a bike?
You can do just that at the summertime farmers market at Forest Park in Springfield on Tuesday. At the market, there will be activities and a summer cooking demo aimed at younger attendees.
Some other event highlights include:
- Summer Eats lunch site, distributing free nutritious meals to youth under 18
- Blueberry samples from Red Fire Farm
- WIC Mass Farmers Market Coupon Distribution
- UMass Nutrition Education Program
- SNAP, Mass Health, and Health Connector information for parents from Caring Health Center
This free event is in collaboration with Community Involved in Sustaining Agriculture (CISA), The Farmers Market at Forest Park, and Homegrown Springfield, who are looking to bring local food to local families. If weather allows, the event will be held at the Cyr Arena Parking Lot right next to the pool and splash pad. In case of rain, it will be moved to the Monkey House.
The farmers market begins at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
