Small plane slams into hangar at Van Nuys Airport

VAN NUYS, Calif. (KABC) — A suspect was in custody after a small plane that had been reported stolen slammed into an exterior wall of a hangar Thursday morning at Van Nuys Airport, authorities said.

The white Cessna, which never got airborne, was apparently taxiing on the tarmac when the collision occurred. Whether anyone was seriously injured was unclear.

Video from AIR7 showed a hole in the single-story hangar’s wall where it was struck by the plane’s nose.

The FBI and Los Angeles Airport Police responded to the scene.

A police spokesperson confirmed a suspect was detained but the individual’s identity was not immediately released.

Van Nuys Airport is a general aviation facility operated by Los Angeles World Airports.
