CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) — Family of fallen Cleveland police officer Jamieson Ritter attended the 22nd annual Cleveland Heroes Run Sunday morning.

The run took place in the West Park neighborhood on Cleveland’s west side.

The run/walk started and ended at St. Joseph Academy. Participants could either do a two-mile or five-mile course.

The event began with opening ceremonies and the fallen heroes roll call, where the names of fallen firefighters and police officers were read aloud.

The last name read was Jamieson Ritter, end of watch July 4, 2024.

Williams was shot and killed in the early hours of the Fourth of July while responding to a call related to a wanted suspect.

According to police, the suspect tried to ride off on a bike and pulled out a gun and started shooting.

The man accused of killing Ritter, Delawnte Hardy, was recently going through psychiatric tests to determine if he’s competent to stand trial for the murders of his grandmother and Ritter, according to reporting by the Fox 8 I-Team.

Ritter’s siblings traveled to Cleveland for the Heroes Run. His sister Angelica Ritter spoke with Fox 8.

“We came here to be here to honor Jamieson and every other officer and fireman,” she said. “We are meeting people who are in the unfortunate same circumstance, but it’s still beautiful. Like, there’s pain, but its’s beauty at the same time.”

In addition to honoring fallen first responders, the Cleveland Heroes Run raises funds for the West Park Police and Firefighters Memorial and several scholarships.
