The latest shark sighting in Perth will have kids screaming — with excitement — in the September school holidays.

Yagan Square Amphitheatre will be turned into a zoo of giant inflatable native Australian animals from 10am to 3pm each day from September 25 to 30.

The Nylon Zoo will be brought to life through a combination of textiles, sculpture, and performance by internationally acclaimed interdisciplinary artist Evelyn Roth in partnership with the 2023 AWESOME Festival.

Children and families will be able to immerse themselves in the wonders of the Australian environment from inside a giant inflatable classroom.

They will be able to dress up as Australian native birds and animals and learn about their unique behaviours and characteristics and how important it is to protect them and their habitats.

Stories will also be presented in one of nine giant inflatable creatures, ranging from a bilby to a spotted quoll, a leafy sandragon or even a dung beetle.

AWESOME Arts CEO and artistic director Jenny Simpson said the zoo would be an unforgettable adventure.

“The Nylon Zoo Story Theatres will engage young and old alike and are a great example of the transformative power of art,” she said.

“This free school holiday activity will ignite imaginations and educate on the importance of environmental conservation at the same time.”

The sessions run for 30 minutes….
