SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Nearly a week after the news of their agreement was first reported, the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon officially announced their three-year, $42 million pact with free-agent slugger Jorge Soler.
The deal will pay the outfielder/designated hitter $7 million in 2024, $13 million in 2025 and another $13 million in 2026. He’ll also receive a $9 million signing bonus.
Soler, 32, underwent his physical Saturday at the team’s facilities, and Sunday morning was settling into a locker between Wilmer Flores and LaMonte Wade Jr.
Coming off a 36-homer season with Miami, Soler is expected to serve as the Giants’ regular DH, shifting Michael Conforto back to left field. The two hitters are the only ones on the Giants’ roster to hit 30 home runs in a season, something no San Francisco hitter has done since Barry Bonds in 2004.
Soler will be introduced by manager Bob Melvin and president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi later this afternoon, and Monday will take part in the first full-squad workout of camp, where Pablo Sandoval should also be present.
The three-time World Series champion, 37, agreed to a minor-league deal with an invitation to major-league spring training, which also became official Sunday.
