PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Crews battled several small fires along the Springwater Corridor Thursday night, including one that officials described as a “bonfire.”
According to Portland Fire and Rescue, a crew responded to the fire along the trail and quickly called for a larger response due to the wind in the area and the size of the blaze.
Response to the fire was hampered by limited access along the trail, and officials said that the fire had already begun spreading to the nearby canopy.
Fire officials later updated, saying that the incident was actually multiple fires located a distance apart with an unknown cause.
As crews continued to address the several small fires, one engine reported that they managed to reduce some of the flames enough to see that they had doused what seemed to be a bonfire.
An investigator was called to the scene, but no other information has been released.
PF&R warned the public to be careful with open flames as Portland heads into a hot and dry period, and that the burn ban is still in effect.
