Seven hospitalized after high-speed, two-vehicle crash in Newport Township

LAKE COUNTY, Ill. — Seven people were hospitalized Saturday after a crash involving two vehicles in Newport Township, officials said.

Authorities said the high-speed crash along Route 173 and North Kilbourne Road around 5 p.m. involved a car and an SUV. Of the nine people in the SUV, only two escaped without injuries. Some had to be extricated.

There was no information late Saturday about the extent of the injuries to the seven or the driver of the car.
