WARREN COUNTY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Warren/Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging is expanding its senior meal program as delays to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits continue during the federal government shutdown.
Nearly three million New Yorkers rely on SNAP every month, most of whom are older adults, disabled or children.
Warren/Hamilton Counties OFA said congregate meal sites for people over the age of 60 are open Monday-Friday. They are located in Bolton, Indian Lake, Johnsburg, Lake Luzerne, Long Lake, Queensbury-Cedars, Solomon Heights, Warrensburg, and Wells. Visit the OFA website to find site times and contact information.
There is also a home delivery meal program.
A food drive at Warren County facilities has begun to help provide non-perishable items to food pantries around the county. Collection boxes have been placed at:
- The DMV entrance to Warren County Municipal Center and the lobby of Warren County Human Services Building, both at 1340 Route 9, Queensbury.
- Warren County DPW, 4028 Main Street, Warrensburg.
For those who need transportation to food pantries, a free shuttle for seniors and military veterans is available in western and northern communities of Warren County. The service is available to those over the age of 60 as well as veterans of any age.
