Season’s first frost looms as summerlike warmth gives way to chilly temperatures

[ad_1]

October is off to a remarkable sunny start—it’s the sunniest open in nearly half a century, since 1975!

Temperatures warmed several degrees above Wednesday’s levels Thursday afternoon along with a 4th straight day with nearly 100% sunshine.

Even warmer air was prevalent across the Plains with highs well into the 80s, even 90s in some areas, a level 15-30 degrees above normal.

A piece of that warmth arrives in the Chicago area Friday where temperatures are expected to reach the middle 80s.

More record highs occurred across the Southwest Thursday, including an unprecedented 17th straight day in Phoenix.

From summerlike warmth to the coolest weather since last April

Chicago’s temperature roller coaster is headed south following Friday’s unseasonable warmth.

Stationary front draped across the area Saturday afternoon to set up a large temperature spread—from low 60s north to the lower or possibly middle 80s south towards Kankakee and Rensselaer, IN.
