UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Law enforcement in Union County continues the search for an attempted murder suspect who escaped arrest.

Monroe Police warn that suspect is considered armed and dangerous despite possibly still being in handcuffs. Detectives say that man is 42-year-old Cleveland Lamont Waters, who escaped custody Friday night after he was arrested for shooting a person on English Street in Monroe.

Investigators confirmed Waters’ victim suffered multiple gun shot wounds but is expected to survive after being rushed to a hospital.

Police later arrested Waters at a home in Waxhaw, where officers found several guns and illegal narcotics while taking Waters into custody.

Investigators say waters escaped before he was booked into jail, while still wearing handcuffs around his wrist. An overnight search using K-9’s took place in an attempt to find Waters.

Waters was not located during the search and investigators believe he has fled the area.

Monroe Police ask for any tips that will lead to Waters’ arrest. Officers say he was last seen wearing black pants and a red shirt.

If you do see Waters, police say do not approach, and instead call 911 immediately as he is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities add a $5,000 reward is available if an anonymous tip helps lead to Waters’ arrest.
