Trachtenberg died on Feb. 26 at age 39 due to complications from diabetes.
WASHINGTON — Sarah Michelle Gellar paid tribute to the late Michelle Trachtenberg on what would have been her 40th birthday.
The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star shared a heartwarming post on Oct. 11 dedicated to Trachtenberg. The Instagram post was a short clip of Gellar and Trachtenberg hugging while the son “See You Again” played in the background.
“When you turned 16, it was hard not to still see you as the little girl I met on All My Children. When you turned 21, I had to teach myself to not see you as the little sister anymore. I can’t imagine what 40 would have been like,” Gellar said in her caption. “This I know… it would be filled with love. Happy birthday @michelletrachtenberg.”
Trachtenberg, who played Gellar’s onscreen sister on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” died from complications with diabetes on Feb. 26 at the age of 39. Officers found Trachtenberg unresponsive in her Manhattan apartment.
Gellar was among the many celebrities to pay tribute to Trachtenberg after the news of her death.
“Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you,” Gellar wrote at the time on Instagram.
Trachtenberg, who was born on Oct. 11, 1985, began appearing in TV commercials at the age of 3 and even landed a recurring role as Lily Montgomery on the soap opera “All My Children.”
She starred in several children’s shows and movies, including “Harriet the Spy” and “Inspector Gadget,” before landing a breakout role as Dawn in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Trachtenberg also went on to recurring roles on “Six Feet Under,” “Weeds” and “Gossip Girl,” where she played the gang’s scheming nemesis, Georgina Sparks.
She was one of the original series’ stars to return for a pair of guest appearances in the 2021 “Gossip Girl” revival.
