The Long Island Association is hosting “What’s New in Washington” on March 3 at Heritage Club at Bethpage.
The event features Reps. Anthony D’Esposito from District 4, Andrew Garbarino from District 2 and Nick LaLota from District 1.
Noticeably absent from is George Santos, who represents New York’s 3rd congressional district.
“This is the first time the business community will hear directly from three of our congressmen about their priorities in Washington, without distraction,” Stacey Sikes, LIA vice president of government affairs and communications, said in a statement.
Santos’ office had no comment about the event, other than that he wouldn’t be able to attend anyway per his schedule.
Local Republican officials said last month they would not work with Santos. Instead, “other members of the party will fill the gap for us,” while adhering to Congressional rules, Nassau County Republican Committee Chairman Joe Cairo had said.
Santos has faced numerous calls for his resignation and is facing multiple investigations by prosecutors over his personal and campaign finances and lies about his resume and family background. He has temporarily stepped down from two congressional committees, saying in a prepared statement that he wanted to focus on serving his constituents “without distraction.”
Meanwhile, the LIA is gearing up for its March 3 event.
“We are looking forward to having a substantive conversation where we can focus solely on what’s most important: learning from [Reps.] Garbarino, LaLota, and D’Esposito how we can partner to garner the support and resources from the federal government necessary to keep our region vibrant and competitive,” Sikes told LIBN.
