(KRON) — A therapist and aide who works at a San Jose elementary school was arrested for child sex crimes this week, police said. Alejandro Lopez Nunez is a behavioral therapist with Trumpet Behavioral Health and an instructional aide at Forest Hill Elementary School.

The San Jose Police Department launched an investigation into the 48-year-old Santa Clara man on June 8. A girl told police that her therapist sexually assaulted her during a therapy session inside her home in San Jose.

“It was determined that the suspect sexually assaulted the female minor victim multiple times since March 2024,” SJPD spokesperson Stacie Shih said. The most recent assault happened during a therapy session with the girl on June 7, according to Shih.

Alejandro Lopez Nunez is seen in a June 2024 mugshot provided by the San Jose Police Department.

Detectives found Nunez in Santa Clara Sunday and booked him into jail on suspicion of sexually assaulting a minor. Police did not release the girl’s age.

The Campbell Union School District’s website includes Nunez in its staff directory for Forest Hill Elementary School.

Nunez’s jobs put him in a position of trust with children, police said. “Based on the suspect position as a person of trust, SJPD believes there may be additional victims,” Shih wrote.

Anyone with information about this case or similar cases is asked to contact Detective Minten of the San Jose Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force by emailing [email protected] or calling 408-277-4102.
