SALT LAKE CITY — A shooting left two people dead and six others hurt in Salt Lake City on Wednesday night, according to police.
The shooting happened in the parking lot of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after a funeral, ABC News reported.
Three of the victims are in critical condition and three others are in unknown condition, KSL reported. Police said all victims are “of adult age” in a press conference.
“There was some sort of altercation, and that’s when shots were fired,” Salt Lake City police spokesperson Glen Mills said in a press conference.
Police said the “suspects are still outstanding, but our officers have obtained solid leads and are working to locate those involved.” Salt Lake City Police Department Chief Brian Redd said people were detained at the scene but could not confirm any arrests.
The shooting happened just after 7:30 p.m. local time.
The area around the meetinghouse on Redwood Road is closed to the public while police investigate. Video from the scene showed a large number of emergency response vehicles with flashing lights.
The church said it was cooperating with police and praying for the victims.
