It all started earlier Monday morning when deputies were called about a woman who was hit and may be immobile.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says deputies shot a man at the center of a possible hostage situation in North Highlands.

According to Sgt. Amar Gandhi with the sheriff’s office, it started around 9 a.m. on the 4100 block of Lund Court in North Highlands.

He says a woman inside the home was “pushed” by a person she lives with and may now be immobile.

Gandhi says the person who allegedly hit her answered the door, saw law enforcement, closed the door and barricaded himself inside. The woman is still inside the home and has been in constant communication with 911.

Gandhi says negotiators have been unable to communicate with the man and he is heavily armed. It’s unclear if he’s keeping her hostage inside the home since he hasn’t spoken to them yet, or if she just can’t get out because she’s immobile.

Gandhi later confirmed just before 1:30 p.m. that deputies shot the man. His condition is unknown at this time.

The surrounding area was evacuated due to law enforcement response.

This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more.
