The DA’s office said that Chand was convicted of five counts of rape by force, fear, duress, or menace; seven counts of oral copulation by force, fear, duress, or menace; two counts of sexual penetration by foreign object by force, fear, duress, or menace; and two counts of lewd and lascivious acts upon a minor.
Chand knew the victim’s family and when the victim was 7 years old, he sexually assaulted her, according to the DA’s office. When the victim turned 13 years old, he began to forcibly rape her regularly.
Officials said in a statement that she did try to fight Chand off, but he overpowered her. He threatened to hurt her and a member of her family if she did not comply.
The DA’s office said Chand also orally couplated the victim and used different sex toys on the victim.
Chand faces a maximum sentence of 118 years in state prison, the DA’s office said. Sentencing will take place at 11 a.m. on Oct. 3 before the Honorable Michael Sweet.
Officials said that due to the current California law, Chand will become eligible for release at an Elder Parole hearing once he has served only 20 years of his 118-year prison sentence. With his in-custody credits, that will be in approximately 17 ½ years.
