Sac Republic FC loses Jagermeister Cup final

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – The crowd showed up on Saturday night as it always does to support Sacramento Republic FC. This time, though, it was the road team that won at Heart Health Park.

That cost the Indomitable Club a trophy.

With a goal in the 51st minute, Hartford Athletic won the 2025 Jagermeister Cup, 1-0 over Sacramento Republic FC.

“It was everything I expected it to be. It was unbelievable, fantastic showing,” said Sacramento Republic FC head coach Neill Collins. “Just so disappointed that we weren’t able to get this place on its feet with a goal, with a trophy. And obviously it hurts to see an away team get to celebrate in front of you. It’s tough.”

And it won’t get easier next week, when these teams will meet again in Hartford. Republic FC and Hartford Athletic will play a regular season match next Saturday.

“It was very much a typical cup final. Very scrappy, hectic, fast-paced, lot of turnovers,” said Sacramento Republic FC defender Lee Desmond. “At times, not a lot of quality…probably didn’t create enough ourselves.”

Said goalkeeper Jared Mazzola, who allowed the lone goal, “I think we all just have that unwavering trust in each other. And we know that we’re all gonna be there to do our jobs. And unfortunately I think that I messed up on my job tonight, and that’s just on me.”

Sacramento Republic FC was trying to win its second trophy, with the first coming in 2014 when the club won the league in its inaugural season.
