A family member is being questioned by investigators in connection with the couple’s death.
LOS ANGELES — Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Reiner were found dead in their Southern California home Sunday night, according to the Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson.
They were identified as the two found dead by Associated Press and Los Angeles Times sources. A family member is being questioned by investigators in connection with the couple’s death.
The LAPD described the deaths as an “apparent homicide.”
Police say they were called to the home about a “death investigation” around 3:40 p.m. where they found two people dead inside.
NBC LA was the first to report the news, which was later confirmed by TMZ.
ABC News reported the victims — described as a 78-year-old man and 68-year-old woman by the Los Angeles Fire Department — were stabbed to death.
Robbery Homicide Division detectives are on scene investigating. Police told KABC no one is in custody.
The LA Times reported there was no forced entry into the home.
TMZ said firefighters were called to the home around 3:30 p.m. local time to provide medical aid. It’s unclear who called emergency responders. TMZ reported police were on scene 10 minutes later.
Reiner is long one of the most prolific directors in Hollywood, and his work includes some of the most memorable movies of the 1980s and ’90s, including “This is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “The Princess Bride.”
His role as Meathead in the 1970s TV classic “All in the Family” alongside Carol O’Connor’s Archie Bunker catapulted him to fame.
A large police presence is at the home. No other information is known at this time.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
