SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – Sacramento Republic FC had another chance to beat an MLS team on Tuesday night, as the Seattle Sounders came to town for a quarterfinal match in the U.S. Open Cup.
The Sounders are moving on to the semifinals, beating Sacramento Republic FC at a sold-out Heart Health Park, 2-1.
Republic FC, which advanced to the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals for the second time in three years, entered Tuesday night’s match having lost three of its previous six matches. It gave up two first half goals; Josh Atencio scored for the visitors in the 16th minute, followed by Josh Harris in the 31st minute.
Sebastian Herrera got one of those goals back for the “Indomitable Club,” a header off of a corner kick from Jack Gurr in the 49th minute.
Sacramento Republic FC returns to the field on Saturday, hosting North Carolina FC at 8pm at Heart Health Park. That match will air on FOX40, as well as be streamed live on FOX40.com.
